Abstract

A disposable absorbent article e.g., a diaper comprises a hydrophobic top sheet having valvular openings, a liq. impermeable backing sheet and an absorbent pad disposed between the top and backing sheets. The valvular openings permit passage of liq. through the top sheet into the pad but retard its flow in the reverse direction. The top sheet also has a system of dimples with a frequency of >=1 per square inch. The hydrophobic top sheet pref is an ethylene-ethyl acrylate film and the pad is a stack of layers of absorbent wadding. A suitable type of material for the wadding is a hydrogel.
