Abstract

The method of improving signal-to-noise ratios of analogue signal may be applied to all types of transmission or recording systems. The signal amplitude is sampled before compression at discreet time intervals and is cooled in digital form. This information is transmitted with the compressed signal and is used in the decompressor to reconstitute the original signal. A clock or timing cct. delivers pulses defining a series of equal time intervals, and there is a short term memory which temporarily stores signal in delay lines for the length of the time intervals determined by the clock.
