Abstract

Prodn. of elastomer-coated glass fibres by (a) treating the fibres with an aqs. soln. of a silanol or polysiloxane made by hydrolysis of a silane: where R = C2-6 alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl, Y = reactive (meth)acryloxy, amino, mercapto, carboxyl, cyanide, hydroxyl, epoxy, quinonyl, sulphonic acid or oxime grp., X1 and X2 = hydroxyl, halogen, or C1-2 alkoxy- or acyloxy grps. and Z = C1-12 alkyl, X1, X2 or Y-R, and (b) while keeping the fibres in the wet state, applying an aqs. elastomer emulsion.
