Abstract

3D vision system with hardware processing of the video signal.The system is activated by a servomotor (2) that allows controlling the vertical position (elevation angle) of the mentioned flat light beam, a control system of the servomotor (3), a video camera equipped with an optical filter (4), a specific video processing system (5), and an automatic system (6) that acquires and stores the maps of three dimensional distances.A distinctive characteristic of this system is the position of the camera, which is rotated 90 degrees around its optical axis so that the scene is explored in lines that are perpendicular to the light pattern used (flat laser beam), which allows implementing specific hardware processing of the video signal, eliminating the need to digitalise the complete images acquired by the camera.This system can be used directly and both outside and inside (simply by selecting a laser transmitter with the appropriate voltage), for mobile robot navigation, analysis and recognition of shapes or surfaces, automatic inspection and generally all functions that require the use of artificial three dimensional vision.
