The device includes a sample tray (1), a row of infra-red light diodes (2), a filter (3) and a photomultiplicator tube (4). A device for detecting food which has been exposed to ionising radiation used for sterilisation comprises a sample tray, a row of infra-red diodes, a filter with a wavelength of 260-340 nm, a photomultiplicator tube, an auxiliary power supply (5), a variable high voltage source (6), a power supply circuit (7), a control circuit (8) and an analysis circuit (9).
