Abstract

The ultrasonic detection of microorganism growth in biological fluids comprises automatic metering of the propagation rate of a pulsed 5 MHz signal through a sterile receiver containing a liquid culture medium. The culture medium, inoculated with a clinical blood or e.g. urine sample, at 35 degrees C, is subjected to e.g. through-transmission examination. Two piezoelectric transducers are used.
