Abstract

The arrangement comprises a piston (5) located in a bore (3) communicating with steam (7) in the body of the machine. The piston has a compression spring (9) which operates against the steam pressure, and a spigot (6) communicating with the exterior of the casing. The spigot (6) is engageable with teeth (8) in the edge of a threaded filler cap (2) of the machine. The arrangement is such that, when steam pressur pressure builds up sufficiently to overcome the force of the spring, the spigot engages with the teeth of the cap, thereby preventing the cap from being unscrewed while steam pressure exists. - The teeth may have a saw-tooth profile, allowing the cap to be tightened but not loosensed while steam pressure exists. A flat bottomed space between teeth at least as long as the width of the spigot may be provided. Thus each notch (8) has an horizontal bottom part (15) at least as long as the diameter of the end of the piston rod.
