Description

The invention relates to a paper for coating a surface, in particular a wood-based panel, with a top having a digitally applied decor produced from at least one binder containing ink, wherein the decor is coated with a protective layer, and a method for applying a Decor on a top of a wood-based panel by means of a decorative paper, which is connected to the wood-based panel, and on the digital printing process a decor is printed.

In the furniture industry, for the cladding of walls and ceilings and in particular as floor coverings, plates or panels are used, which are made of a natural material or modeled on such a pleasant living environment. In the WO 2009/018260 A1 For example, decorated PVC panels are described. However, a cost-effective solution that at the same time looks high-quality is finished wood-based panels. In this case, first a support panel, for example made of a wood material such as MDF, HDF or OSB, is coated with several layers of possibly different materials. In this case, a large variety of surfaces can be reproduced by a printed decor and possibly by an embossed, with the decor corresponding structure. A common floor covering is prepared, for example, by providing a wood-based panel and optionally pretreating it, applying a printed paper imprinted with a pattern of printed wood, applying at least one additional wear layer and compressing the applied layers in a press under pressure and temperature influence with the wood-based panel , The plate is then divided into individual panels, which in turn are provided with connecting elements. At the installation site, the floor covering can then be assembled from the individual panels. In the manufacture of a floor covering, an expedient wear layer can consist, for example, of a melamine resin to which abrasion-resistant particles (eg corundum) are mixed in order to make the surface of the finished panel more resistant to the loads occurring during walking.

As a decoration for such a plate, in addition to the appearance of a wooden surface, it is also possible to imitate a surface made of tiles or natural stones. Other decors, but especially those that have no natural material as a model, but are also possible. In general, the decor is printed by gravure printing, for example by means of one or more pressure rollers on the decorative paper. Recently, however, more and more the so-called digital printing process is used. Here, for example, with an inkjet printer, any pattern printed on the decorative paper or directly on the wood-based panel. This allows for better print quality as higher resolution becomes possible and the available color space also greatly expands as the number of concurrent color limitations associated with the use of printing rollers is eliminated. Furthermore, in the digital printing process, in contrast to the gravure printing process, decors can be applied which repeat themselves after many running meters, whereas in the gravure printing process the printed decoration is repeated at least after one complete revolution of the printing roll. Another advantage of the digital printing process results from the fact that simple program change between different printed decors can be changed without a conversion to the pressure line must be made. Furthermore, the storage costs are reduced, since not a separate set of pressure rollers must be maintained for each decor.

From the US 2006/0100307 A1 For example, a composition of an ink for ink-jet printers is known, which can be provided with pigments for printing a decoration and is also useful as a protective layer when formed colorless or almost colorless.

The US 2005/0203210 A1 describes the composition of a transparent ink provided with fine polymer particles which can be used in an inkjet printer. With this ink, the gloss level of a printed decor can be improved.

In addition to the advantages mentioned, however, there are also some problems when a decorative paper is printed in digital printing. This can lead to a sagging of the color pigments in the paper, which significantly reduces the print quality. This problem can e.g. be remedied by the use of papers compacted or sealed on the surface by special procedures. But such a treatment makes the paper more expensive. Furthermore, the adhesion of the color pigments to the paper can be deficient, so that, in particular during the further processing of the paper, i.a. Contact with doctor blades, anilox rollers, deflection rollers or continuous presses can cause color abrasions. By using modified binders in the ink, this effect can be reduced. However, this measure is often insufficient if a combination of high temperatures, pressures and friction acts on the paper.

For this reason, the use of a digitally printed paper often requires one compared to the use of one in the conventional one Gravure printing of printed paper an extreme variation of the process parameters. Thus, for example, the load on the decor paper used can be reduced by using adhesives which can be processed at significantly lower temperatures than the adhesives used as standard, so that the temperature load is reduced. To reduce the pressure exerted on the decorative paper, for example, it is possible to work with platen presses instead of continuous presses.

The printed paper can be provided with a protective lacquer as a protective layer in a separate step before further processing. Although this reduces the risk of abrasion of the printed particles on the paper and the risk of contamination, other problems, such as penetration problems during impregnation or adhesion problems during painting, may result in later stages of the production process due to the protective coating. This is to be expected in particular when the protective layer / resist is chemically very different from the binder of the printing ink or the binders of the printing inks. A too dense protective layer may e.g. prevent impregnation of the paper, while a protection layer / lacquer layer consisting of an unfavorably selected material can lead to adhesion problems when applying further layers, for example a lacquer layer, which may necessitate the additional application of a primer.

In all the examples mentioned, the special treatment of the decorative paper printed in the digital printing process leads in any case to a more complex production process, which involves significantly higher costs.

The object of the present invention is therefore to reduce the expense of processing a printed in the digital printing process decorative paper and reduce the costs incurred. Ideally, the paper printed in the digital printing process should be just like a gravure printing process printed decorative paper can be processed.

To solve the problem, a generic paper for coating a surface characterized by the fact that the protective layer consists entirely of one or all binders of at least one ink with which the decor was created. As a result, the properties of the protective layer are largely determined by the binder (s) contained in the printing ink. The protective layer thus contains no further components except the binder (s). The binders of several printing inks can be combined.

With this configuration, a particularly good adhesion of the protective layer on the decor can be achieved. Furthermore, there are advantages in the further treatment of the paper: when impregnating the paper, the impregnating agent comes into contact with the same substances as in the impregnation of the unprotected paper, namely with the binder of the printing ink. When painting the same applies. The paint wets the printing ink.

In addition to the mentioned advantages of good adhesion of the protective layer on the decor is also advantageous that the protective layer can be applied either directly from the digital printer through the existing printheads or directly to the printing process then by an additional device which is integrated in the digital printer or on the Digital printer is attached.

Such an integrated protective layer application technology incurs little or no additional cost.

The protective layer can be applied directly after the printing of the decor. The protective layer causes the following, sometimes associated with high temperatures, high pressures or friction Production steps have no influence on the adhesion of the color pigments to the paper. The printed decor paper can be used in the further process just as a conventional, printed in the gravure decorative paper.

Ein besonders einfacher Aufbau ergibt sich, wenn ein bereits vorhandenerThe application of the protective layer takes place in the shortest possible time interval for printing on the paper, preferably immediately after the printing process. For applying the protective layer, for example, a separate device can be used, which is attached to or in the digital printer. A particularly simple structure arises when an already existing

Print head of the digital printer is used to apply the protective layer. This structure is particularly cost-effective and reduces the footprint of the entire system. The fact that the protective layer can consist of a binder or substantially of a binder of one of the printing inks, the use of a printhead of the digital printer for applying the protective layer is simplified. Both water-based and UV-reactive inks can be used as printing ink for printing the decoration on the paper. The proposed technology is thus not limited to a particular color, as well as the other process parameters remain unchanged in the further processing of decorative paper compared to a printed in decorative printing paper decor paper.

The application amount of the protective layer is preferably between 3 and 20 g / m 2 and can be adapted to the paper quality and the intended use of the finished product.

The protective layer can be dried to allow a quick and easy processing of the printed and coated with the protective layer paper. The drying can be done for example by means of UV or infrared light. Often already in the existing production facilities a corresponding drying section provided, so that even the drying of the protective layer requires no costly reconstruction of the production plant or other fundamental changes in the production process.

It is conceivable that one or more further layers are applied to the printed decorative paper coated with the protective layer. This is independent of the drying process and can thus be done before or after the drying of the protective layer. In particular, here are transparent layers which are particularly resistant to abrasion, such as e.g. a layer of resin mixed with corundum or other hard particles, an overlay paper or similar layers is conceivable.

If the protective layer is applied by a digital printer or by a method similar to digital printing, it is also possible to match the protective layer to the decor with regard to the pattern, the color or the circumference of the printed surface.

FIG. 1 shows schematically the structure of a paper according to the invention 1, which is connected to a wood-based panel 5 (not shown to scale). The bottom layer in the figure is formed by the paper layer 2, on which a decor 3 is printed. The protective layer 4 is transparent and covers the decor 3.

FIG. 2 shows a flowchart of a method according to the invention. In this case, first of all a paper is provided which is suitable for printing a decoration in the digital printing process, preferably a paper which is compacted or sealed on the surface.

In the next step, the paper is printed with an inkjet printer using digital printing. A variety of different patterns and material imitations is possible.

As a third method step, a protective layer is applied to the printed paper. The protective layer is preferably applied by the print heads of the digital printer used for printing on the paper and preferably consists essentially of a binder of one of the printing inks.

Finally, the paper is connected to a provided wood-based panel by being pressed in a press under pressure and temperature influence with the wood-based panel.

Various modifications of the method are also conceivable. Thus, e.g. After applying the protective layer to the paper, a drying of the protective layer can be carried out. Likewise, it is conceivable first to temporarily store the paper after application and, if appropriate, after the drying of the protective layer and, for example, to roll it up onto a roll. The bonding of the paper with the wood-based panel can then happen at a later date and possibly at another location.

FIG. 3 shows a digital printer 6, in which the paper layer 2 is transported by means of transport 9 in the figure from left to right. The print head 7 of the digital printer 6 prints the decor 3, and the additional device 8 arranged in the digital printer 6 then applies the protective layer 4 to the decor 3.

In the right part of the figure, arranged outside the digital printer 6 additional device 8 is indicated. This can, as well as the print head 7 of the digital printer 6, are used for applying the protective layer 4.
