Abstract

There are provided an air conditioner capable of controlling a conditioned air blow direction during power operation and a control method for it. The air conditioner (1) includes a control section (60). The control section (60) is connected to a compressor (21), a four-way switching valve (22), decompressor (25), a ROM (41), a RAM (42), a fan motor (13), a flap motor (146), a temperature sensor (43), and an infrared ray sensor (44). The control section (60) performs control of the compressor (21), the four-way switching valve (22), the decompressor (25), the fan motor (13), and the flap motor (146). When an instruction to perform powerful operation is inputted from a remote controller (40), the control section (60) temporarily increases the rotation speed of a cross flow fan (12) and the operation frequency of the compressor (21) so as to increase the air conditioning ability and controls the direction of a horizontal flap (144), considering the direction of people in the room.
