Definitions
- the present invention is for a cargo pallet that is entirely or partly made from corrugated board.
- the invention also concerns runners for such a pallet.
- Cargo pallets are made from various materials, mostly used is wood. There are also cargo palletsmade from plastic, steel plate and corrugated board, see for example EP 0860368 A, of various designs but to a much smaller extent.
- a cargo pallet is intended to make handling of goods easier and so it shall meet various demands that differ from each other due to field of use. Common for most applications is that it shall be possible to lift the pallet with a forklift truck or similar means. In most cases a used pallet must also be taken care of for reuse, recovery or destruction. As reuse often means return transport or other transport without load it is an advantage if the material of the pallet can be used at or close to the place where the pallet is unloaded. The own weight of the pallet ought to be as low as possible in order to make handling simpler and to let the load bearing capacity that is available be used for utility load. It is also essential that the cargo pallet can stand the environment in which it may find use where moist and water may be abundant.
- the present invention relates to a cargo pallet comprising the features of claim 1. Further, preferred embodiments are disclosed in dependent claims 2 to 6.
- the present invention is for a disposable cargo pallet that may be recovered or used in immediate connection with a place of unloading.
- the cargo pallet according to the invention also is of low weight and so made that its design and properties may be adapted to the intended use, what is also made possible by that it is not intended to be reused as a cargo pallet. In this way an optimised design and lowest possible use of resources for the production and use of the cargo pallet is achieved.
- the low weight also brings with it that the cargo pallet is especially suitable for airfreight transportation.
- the cargo pallet is intended to be made from corrugated board that, besides that it combines low weight and high strength, also is well suited for treatment by impregnating or coating to resist moisture and water, alternatively a plastic film laminated material may be used.
- a further advantage of a cargo pallet according to the invention is that it may be stored as one or more flat boards until it is to be used and then easily be assembled into a complete cargo pallet, what saves space and makes handling before the use as a cargo pallet easier.

- a load carrying board 5 the extension of which is the same as that of the connecting surface 4.
- the board is made from corrugated board but another material may be selected if it is found suitable.
- the runners are formed by folding of the blank in such a way the each runner is completely sealed, there are no openings or cracks such as connections or anything else in the runners except immediately underneath the load surface. Distance pieces 6, 7 are completely enclosed by the runners as is apparent from figures 4 and 5.

Abstract
Description
- The present invention is for a cargo pallet that is entirely or partly made from corrugated board. The invention also concerns runners for such a pallet.
Further, preferred embodiments are disclosed in
dependent claims 2 to 6. - The present invention is for a disposable cargo pallet that may be recovered or used in immediate connection with a place of unloading. The cargo pallet according to the invention also is of low weight and so made that its design and properties may be adapted to the intended use, what is also made possible by that it is not intended to be reused as a cargo pallet. In this way an optimised design and lowest possible use of resources for the production and use of the cargo pallet is achieved. The low weight also brings with it that the cargo pallet is especially suitable for airfreight transportation. The cargo pallet is intended to be made from corrugated board that, besides that it combines low weight and high strength, also is well suited for treatment by impregnating or coating to resist moisture and water, alternatively a plastic film laminated material may be used. A further advantage of a cargo pallet according to the invention is that it may be stored as one or more flat boards until it is to be used and then easily be assembled into a complete cargo pallet, what saves space and makes handling before the use as a cargo pallet easier.
- The invention will below be described more in detail with reference to the example of an embodiment thereof that is shown in the enclosed figures.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cargo pallet according to the invention.
- Figure 2 is a side view of the inside of the cargo pallet of figure 1.
- Figure 3 is a front view of a cargo pallet.
- Figure 4 is a cross section at A-A of a runner of a cargo pallet according to the invention and a part of the load carrying surface of the pallet.
- Figure 5 is a cross at B-B section of runner and the surface of the pallet.
- Figure 6 is a cross section at C-C of the runner.
- Figure 7 is a blank for a cargo pallet according to the invention.
- Figures 8-10 are blanks for three main parts of the cargo pallet.
- Figure 11 is a runner formed by folding of a blank according to figure 8.
- Figure 12 is a distance piece formed by folding of a blank according to figure 12.
- The completed cargo pallet 1 comprises at least two
runners surface 4 between the runners, preferably all made from corrugated board. In most cases there is also aload carrying board 5, the extension of which is the same as that of the connectingsurface 4. In many cases the latter does not have enough strength to carry the oad that is put on the pallet and an extra board is thus needed to reinforce the load surface. Suitably also the board is made from corrugated board but another material may be selected if it is found suitable. The runners are formed by folding of the blank in such a way the each runner is completely sealed, there are no openings or cracks such as connections or anything else in the runners except immediately underneath the load surface.Distance pieces - The example of a preferred embodiment of the invention as shown in the figures discloses how a cargo pallet 1 is made by folding of a flat blank 8. The
distance parts distances runner 3. In the figure the connectingsurface 4 is shown cut off. When folding thepart surface 20 and the corresponding surface at the other side of the runner upwards and inwards. Thesides part 20 by means of theside parts sides part surfaces sides glue spots covers board 4. - To make a full size standard pallet one makes use of the blanks of figures 7-10 from which units having runners of separate widths, a
wide runner 2A, 2B and anarrow runner board common loading board 5 to form a cargo pallet as shown in figure 3, where thewide runners 2A, 2B are outer runners and the narrow runners are positioned adjacent one another underneath the middle of the cargo pallet. It may therefore be said that such a cargo pallet has three parts that are joined together by gluing or in another suitable way. - Primarily the material of the cargo pallets is corrugated board that has been impregnated or has a surface coating or is laminated so that it can stand exposure to moist and water and can not be penetrated by liquids. By the way of folding one obtains moisture and liquid proof runners and the material will keep its strength also in difficult environments.
- Within the frame of the inventive idea the embodiment may be varied in various ways. A
load carrying board 5 may for example comprise two or more units having runners held together in pairs and these may be put at various positions and be of various sizes relative to the load carrying board. The proportions of the runners, such as the width to length ratio may be varied in various ways. In order to illustrate this figures 7-10 show an embodiment where the two runners and the corresponding distance pieces are of unequal widths.
