Description

PROCEDE D'EXTENSION DES CAPACITES D'ENCODAGE DU CODE A BARRES PDF 417METHOD FOR EXTENSION OF PDF BARCODE ENCODING CAPACITIES
The technical sector of the present invention is that of automatic identification methods using bar codes such as for example the code known under the designation PDF 417.
In 1996, this PDF barcode had an extraordinary impact in the United States of America with the supply of associated readers.
This bar code is known to provide a large capacity for encoding data, which is not the case with conventional bar codes widely used. This encoding capacity is such that this bar code is not quantitatively different but qualitatively different from other identification tools. Its identification role is no longer to call data, but to provide it directly, with reliability and cost of ownership of systems very competitive compared to those implemented in different technologies such as smart cards, cards PCMCIA, or radio tags.
However, in the space of needs that the two-dimensional symbologies have created, the limit of 1000 bytes of the PDF 417 barcode remains incommensurate with the other media previously mentioned. For more details, see the document published by “Association Indentification Manufacturers” in UNIFORM SYMBOLOGY SPECIFICATION PDF 417.
We already know how to distribute and find information on several PDF 417 barcodes. But reading must be done in the correct order of coding the information to get a consistent message. In addition, when the information is of binary type, a loss has been observed, resulting in recognition by the system of a control bar code which leads to disturbances. Finally, there is no possibility of checking the integrity of the information.
This is why the object of the invention is to create a new assembly based on PDF 417 bar codes, the encoding capacity of which no longer has a mathematical limit but only a physical limit, and which allows the use of readers. trade without any adaptation. The subject of the invention is therefore a method of extending data encoding capacities using the PDF 417 bar code after a first conventional step of data compression, the data being read by acquisition equipment in connection with reading equipment connected to an information system, characterized in that the data is distributed using algorithms in a series of bar codes dynamically linked to achieve a second compression, an element of control of the integrity of the information and the formatting and reading of the data are controlled directly from the information system.
According to a characteristic of the invention, the data is distributed in packets of 1 KB whatever their volume.
According to another characteristic, the acquisition system and the application for receiving data are integrated into the information system to which the reading material is connected.
An essential advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the volume of the data read is not subject to specific reading material and to the volume of its memory.
Another advantage lies in the absence of constraints on the order of reading PDF bar codes. Other characteristics, details and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the additional description given below, given for information only, in relation to a drawing in which the single figure 1 represents an organizational diagram. As indicated above, we overcome the current limits of commercial readers by ensuring as many transmissions as reads, by reconstructing the data in the computer's RAM and by implementing compression / decompression algorithms using fractals and data encryption algorithms.
It is thus possible to use a standard commercial reader which is not saturated by the volume of data which it has to transmit to a computer integrated in the acquisition equipment, then to the information system. An additional threshold is then crossed, it is the increase in the capacities of the encoder and of the decode.
To go beyond the limitations of the reader, one codifies an unlimited quantity of data distributed in a series of dynamically linked symbols. Each symbol then represents a given quantity of the global coding. The dynamic link allows avoid handling errors, such as reversing the reading order, accidental double reading or non-validation in case of forgetting a symbol. We can for example distribute all the data on a set of four symbols. We then read these four symbols and recompose the information at the information system level. We understand that with this new method it is no longer either the data acquisition equipment or the reader, for example, which interpret the information, but the information system itself, which amounts to reporting interpretation at the level of a computing power without common measure with the intrinsic capacity of the reader. The role of this computing power is then to recreate the structure of the information from each packet which carries the description of the links with the complete set of packets. It follows that the method according to the invention allows the use of commercial peripheral equipment without any particular modification. The method according to the invention makes it possible to exceed the physical and mathematical limits of the PDF 417 bar code described according to the standards in force, which makes it possible to process very large volumes of information while remaining compatible with the printing and reading the trade. It is therefore an entirely considerable advantage which the invention brings. In addition, bar codes can be read without any order and some bar codes can be read twice without any system disturbance and without any loss of information integrity.
As an example, we can integrate into four PDF 417 barcodes a volume of information of the order of 800 KB. So, we perform a first compression of the data in a conventional manner, then we reorder the compressed information into information packets using polynomial functions to perform a second compression and we introduce a parity check instruction of the integrity. In decompression, we first re-read the integration using the information system, a microcomputer for example, then we interpret the information and we obtain the information initially compressed. The integration mode is therefore recognized in the interpretation and decompression tool.
Conversely, a large amount of data is restored in a transparent and secure manner for the end user.
In Figure 1, there is shown the organization of a system applying the method according to the invention. The information system 1 is a dedicated program which encodes and decodes the data while being connected to acquisition equipment 2, for example a microcomputer, incorporating a computer 3. The equipment 3 is connected to a printer 4 which prints a or PDF 417 bar codes 5 resulting from the encoding of the initial data. Conversely, the PDF barcode 417 can be read by a reader 6 which is connected to the acquisition equipment 2, the data of which are decoded by the information system 1 in order to reproduce in readable form the information contained in the PDF barcode 417. If the codes are multiple, no reading order, as indicated above, is imposed and the system does not deliver any information until all the codes have been read at least once.
