Abstract

The apparatus is a plastic pressure tank (2) with a circular opening (8) large enough to accommodate the hand of an average adult user. The tank (2) includes a plastic cover for pressure sealing the circular opening (8) and a pump (not shown) comprising a handle. A discharge conduit (10) is in fluid communication with the pressure tank (2) on one side and a dispensing nozzle on the other side.

Description

OPEN TOP SPRAYER
This invention relates to an open top sprayer.
Description of the Drawings Fig. 1 is an elevation view of a sprayer with an open top; Fig. 2 is a top perspective view of the cover of the sprayer; Fig. 3 is a partial side front view of the cover of the sprayer. Fig. 4 is a partial side rear view of the cover of the sprayer. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the cap.
Detailed Description
Sprayer 1 is made of blow molded polyethylene. It has a pressure tank section 2 with an inwardly curved lower surface 3. Cover 4 threads onto large opening 8. Suitable seals are provided between the opening and the cover to seal the tank 2. A pump handle 5 extends through the cover 4. The handle is part of a pump (not shown) that is inside the tank. The tank is pressurized with air by reciprocating the pump handle. The handle operates the pump to take in air and to pressurize the tank 4. Such hand-operated pressure pumps are well known.
The large opening 8 is wider than the opening in prior art plastic tanks. The opening is typically large enough so that an average adult user may insert his or her hand into the opening. The large cover 4 can be difficult to open. The invention provides a number of ribs 7 on the outside surface of the cover. The ribs improve the grip of the operator and allow the operator to more easily turn the cover 4 to tighten or loosen it.
In operation, a user grips the ribs 7 and turns the cover 4 to open the tank 2. Then the operator pours liquid into the pressure tank 2. The liquid may be water, fertilizer, an insecticide, an herbicide or any combination thereof. The user screws the cover 4 onto the threads of the opening to provide an air-tight seal. The user reciprocates the handle 5 a suitable number of times to pressurize the tank 2. The air pressure in the tank forces fluid through a dispensing conduit (not shown) inside the tank 2 that is in fluid communication with the external hose 10 and dispenser handle 12.

Claims

What I claim is: 2
A plastic pressure tank with a circular opening large enough to accommodate the hand of an average adult user; a plastic cover for pressure sealing the circular opening; a pump in the tank and handing a handle extending through the plastic cover; and a discharge conduit having one end in fluid communication with the pressure tank and the other end coupled to a dispensing nozzle for dispensing fluid from the tank.
