Da die DFI-Daten nicht nur an den Haltestellen von Interesse für Fahrgäste sind, ist vorgesehen, daß ein Interessent zu jeder Zeit und an jedem beliebigen Ort über ein Kommunikationssystem 6 Zugriff auf diese Daten hat. Das Kommunikationssystem 6 kann ein normales Telefon, ein Funk-Telefon oder auch eine Internet-Applikation sein. Dementsprechend wird eine bidirektionale Verbindung 7 via Festnetz oder GSM aufgebaut. Ein Informations-Modul 8 des DFI-Systesm 3 fragt dann in einem automatisierten Modus sukzessive nach der interessierenden Linie, der Haltestelle und der Fahrtrichtung. Nachdem die Anfrage soweit eingegrenzt ist, sucht das Informations-Modul 8 die entsprechenden Daten aus dem aktuellen Datenbestand des DFI-Systems 3 heraus und übermittelt diese über die Verbindung 7 an das Kommunikationssystem 6 des Anfragers. Vorteilhaft bei dieser Abfragemethode ist neben der Anwenderfreundlichkeit vor allem die Möglichkeit, den Interessenten auch über aktuelle Abfahrtszeiten an Haltestellen zu informieren, für die an sich keine Haltestellen-Anzeigetafel 5, das heißt keine aktualisierte Fahrzeiten-Information vorgesehen ist.
