Der Sensor erfaßt zu diesem Zweck bei einem jeden Crimpvorgang die sich tatsächlich ergebenden Verformungskräfte und/oder -wege in Gestalt eines Signals, das dem Komparator übermittelt und in diesem mit einem Sollwert abgeglichen wird. Größere Abweichungen vom Sollwert sind ein Indikator für fehlerhafte Teile. Sie werden zur Ansteuerung einer optischen "Schlechtanzeige" verwendet. Sind keine Abweichungen vorhanden, dann wird hingegen eine "Gutanzeige" aktiviert. Diese Auswertung ist wenig befriedigend. Tatsächlich sind überwiegend ungelernte Arbeitskräfte mit der Pohlschuh-Bestückung von Kabelenden befaßt, die überwiegend unter Akkordbedingungen tätig sind. Diese können beispielsweise darauf zurückzuführen sein, daß der Polschuh als solcher einen mechanischen Defekt aufweist, falsch dimensioniert ist oder nicht weit genug auf das Kabelende aufgeschoben ist. Die Folge sind eindeutige Signale, die eine fehlerhafte Verbindung dieser Art deutlich von einer ordnungsgemäßen Verbindung unterscheiden. Sie werden dazu benutzt, ein einen fehlerhaft montierten Polschuh tragendes Kabelende mit Hilfe einer Kappvorrichtung ganz oder teilweise abzutrennen und die fehlerhafte Montierung dadurch offensichtlich zu machen. Fehlerhaft mit Polschuhen bestückte Kabelenden können dadurch leicht erkannt und ausgesondert werden, ohne daß es eines besonderen Kontrollaufwandes bedarf. Selbst im Falle einer Auslieferung entsteht kein Schaden insofern, als ein Anschluß an ein Aggregat nicht möglich ist. Signale 7, die dem Sollwert 8 entsprechen, drücken aus, daß der betreffende Polschuh 1 in ordnungsgemäßer Weise an dem Kabelende 2 befestigt ist. Ist zwischen beiden Werten hingegen ein größerer Abstand vorhanden, so bedeutet das, daß der entsprechende Polschuh fehlerhaft montiert ist. Durch den Komparator 6 wird an einem solchen Fall die Kappvorrichtung 9 betätigt, die das betreffende Kabelende 2 einschließlich des daran fehlerhaft montierten Polschuhs 1 ganz oder teilweise abtrennt. Bei der Ausführung nach Fig. 1 ist eine völlige Abtrennung mit Hilfe einer Kappvorrichtung 9 vorgesehen, die scherenartig funktioniert. Bei der in den Fig. 3 und 4 gezeigten Vorrichtung besteht die Kappvorrichtung 9 aus zwei in senkrechter Richtung aufeinander zu bewegbaren Messern 9.1, die im mittleren Bereich durch einander zugewandte Messerschneiden 9.3 gebildet sind und in den den Messerschneiden 9.3 seitlich benachbarten Bereichen durch Anschlagflächen 9.2. Bei einer gegenseitigen Anlageberührung der Anschlagflächen 9.2 haben die Messerschneiden 9.3 einen gegenseitigen Abstand von ca. 1/10 mm bis 2/10 mm voneinander. Dieser ist gerade so groß bemessen, daß sich keine völlige Abtrennung eines zu entfernenden Kabels ergibt, jedoch eine so weitgehende Abtrennung, daß sich das betreffende Kabelende nach dem Entnehmen aus der Vorrichtung manuell von dem restlichen Kabel entfernen läßt. Der gegenseitige Abstand, den die Messerschneiden 9.3 zum Erreichen dieses Zieles bei einer betätigten Kappvorrichtung haben müssen, wird maßgeblich durch die Dicke des mit dem jeweiligen Polschuh bestückten Kabelendes bestimmt sowie durch die Dimension einer das Kabelende gegebenenfalls umschließenden Ummantelung aus Kunststoff. Werte im Bereich von 0,1 bis 0,3 mm werden dieser Forderung zumeist gerecht. Sie lassen sich im Bedarfsfalle durch einfache Versuche präzisieren.
