Description

The invention relates to elements of electrical connector housings.

The invention relates to electrical connectors comprising two housing elements, a female intended to receive a male element, each element comprising one or more channels each intended to receive an electrical contact member, the electrical contact members of one elements being complementary to those of the other and each electrical contact member being crimped at one end of an electrical conductor.

After mounting the electrical contact members in the channels, one proceeds, on one or the other or on the two housing elements, to the plugging, that is to say, that they are placed in a mold and that plastic material is injected in order to close the rear end of said housing elements, through which the electrical conductors pass. Such a procedure is expensive, complicated and requires the production of molds adapted to the different types of connectors.

La réalisation de cet élément de boîtier de connecteur nécessite, si on désire obtenir une étanchéité, de procéder à un bouchonnage.US Patent No. 4,946,398 shows a housing element which comprises a device for retaining the electrical contact members, this device being able to occupy two positions; a waiting position for the establishment of the electrical contact members and a locking position. The realization of this connector housing element requires, if one wishes to obtain a seal, to carry out a plugging.

One of the aims of the present invention is to allow a much simpler plugging and which can be carried out directly during the mounting of the electrical contact members in the channels of the housing elements.

The elements of electrical connector housings, according to the invention, comprise a body having, at least, a channel intended to receive, at least, an electrical contact member set at one end with a conductor and comprising in the channel means for locking said electrical contact member and a cover intended to be mounted on a rear end of the body and having on its bottom, at least , a hole for the passage of the electrical contact member and the conductor and sealing means of the rear end of the body, said cover being partly filled with a self-healing plastic material and means being provided for holding said cover in a first waiting position in which it is distant from the rear end of the body and in which the electrical contact member can be engaged in the hole in the bottom of the cover through the self-healing material to be put in place the channel and in a second locking position in which, after the positioning of the contact member, the self-healing material is compressed between the bottom of the cover and the rear end of said body.

By self-healing plastic material is meant a material capable of being deformed or perforated and which tends to return to its initial shape.

Thanks to the invention, the cover being in its standby position, the electrical contact member is engaged in the hole in the bottom of the cover, said member perforating the self-healing material and coming to lock in the channel then the cover is pushed. towards its locking position, the material returning to its initial position by enclosing the conductor, and being gripped between the rear end of the body and the bottom of the cover to ensure a tight closure of said rear end.

According to a constructive characteristic, the body has on its side wall, at least two teeth, one of which is located in the vicinity of the rear end and the other offset towards the other end of said body, while the cover has a skirt intended to engage on the body and in which is cut, at least one elastic tongue having, on its internal face, a hook intended to cooperate, selectively, with the teeth to hold the cover in the two positions.

Finally, according to a last characteristic, the channel, on the side of the rear end of the body, has a flared portion forming a ramp, while the cover comprises, erecting from its bottom, a plate intended to cooperate with the ramp in order to 'be guided to one end of the contact member.

Thus, an additional locking of the contact member is ensured and, moreover, if the latter is not completely engaged in the channel and is not locked when the cover is pushed towards the locking position, the plate stops. against the contact member and pushes the latter towards the bottom of the channel to also ensure locking.

The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to particular embodiments given by way of example only and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of a housing element of a connector, according to the invention.

Figure 2 shows, in exploded perspective, an alternative embodiment of the invention.

Figures 3, 4 and 5 are sectional views showing the establishment of an electrical contact member in the housing member.

In the various figures, there is shown a male housing element intended to cooperate with a corresponding female housing element. It is obvious that the invention applies both to a male housing element and to a female housing element. Also in the embodiments shown, the electrical contact member is female, but it could perfectly well be male or hermaphrodite. Finally, the housing element shown in the drawings is one-way, but it could perfectly well be several-way.

The housing element of FIG. 1 comprises a main body 1 and a cover 2. The body 1 is cylindrical and has a channel 3 intended to receive a female electrical contact member 4 crimped at the end of an electrical conductor 5 and having, at the end opposite the conductor, an elastic clamp 6 intended to receive a male tongue, one of the side walls being provided with an opening 7 for fixing it in the channel 3.

The housing element of FIG. 2 is of the same type as that of FIG. 1, its shape being parallelepipedal instead of being cylindrical and in FIG. 2, the references used are used to designate different elements of FIG. 1 to designate the corresponding elements of Figure 2, but assigned the letter "a".

The channel 3 has, internally, a locking bar 8 resiliently mounted and terminated by a hook 9 intended to cooperate with the opening 7.

The member 4 is intended to be engaged by an introduction opening 11 situated at the rear end 14 of the body 1 and to abut against a shoulder 12 in the vicinity of which a slot 13 is made for the passage of a male tongue ( not shown). In this position, the hook 9 cooperates with the edge of the opening adjacent to the shoulder 12 so that the member 4 is blocked.

The lateral surface of the body 1 comprises, angularly offset by 180 °, two first teeth 16, these teeth being located in the vicinity of the end provided with the insertion opening 11. On the lateral surface of the body 1 are also provided , a pair of second teeth 17 aligned with the first teeth 16 and offset towards the end provided with the slot 13.

L'ouverture d'introduction 11, du côté de la barrette de verrouillage 8, présente une rampe inclinée 19.The introduction opening 11, on the side of the locking bar 8, has an inclined ramp 19.

The cover 2 has a skirt 21 with a bottom 24 pierced with a central hole 25.

Dans la jupe 21 sont pratiquées des paires de fentes 22 décalées de 180° et délimitant des languettes élastiques 23.In the skirt 21 are made pairs of slots 22 offset by 180 ° and delimiting elastic tongues 23.

Chaque languette élastique 23 présente, à son extrémité libre et sur sa face interne, un crochet 26 présentant une rampe inclinée 26b et un abrupt 26c.Each elastic tongue 23 has, at its free end and on its internal face, a hook 26 having an inclined ramp 26 b and a steep 26 c .

A partir du fond 24 s'érige une plaquette 28.From the bottom 24 a plate 28 is erected.

The bottom 24 and the opening 25 are lined with a plastic material or a gel called "self-healing" 30, that is to say, a material which is flexible and elastic and which allows it to be deformed or perforated and which tends to return to its original shape.

The cover 2 is placed in a waiting position, that is to say, a position in which the hooks 26 cooperate with the pair of first teeth 16, then the member 4 is engaged in the opening 25, the material 30 is deformed to allow passage of said member 4, the latter being pushed until it comes into its locked position (see FIG. 4) then, the cover 2 is pushed so that the hooks 26 escape the teeth 16 and come, by their abrupt 26 c , to cooperate with the teeth 17, the cover thus occupying a locking position (see FIG. 5).

In this position, the material 30 is compressed between the end of the body 1 adjacent to the introduction opening 11, and surrounds the crimping part of the member 4 and the corresponding end of the conductor 5 so that the sealing is achieved.

When the cover is pushed from the standby position (fig. 4) to the locking position (fig. 5), the plate 28 cooperates with the ramp 19 and abuts against the end of the side wall of the 'member 4 so that, if the latter was not perfectly positioned, the engagement of the cover towards the locking position ensures that said member 4 is put into correct position.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments which have just been described and shown. Many modifications may be made within the limits of the claims.
