Description

The present invention relates to a connector coaxial for connection of a coaxial cable to a printed electronic circuit board.

The installation of components on printed boards of electronic circuits has been for a long time made using pins provided on the components and which fit into metallized holes in the menu.

The fixing is carried out by a brazing operation with the ring allowing to simultaneously fix all the à la carte components.

In this case, no through holes are provided in the card, except where necessary to establish electrical connections between different layers of circuits provided on the card, and the components are provided at their rear part of flat legs which are brazed on studs provided on the surface of the card.

This technique makes it possible to miniaturize the cards and automate component assembly operations on the cards.

So we naturally tried to achieve all kinds of miniaturized components, and in particular electrical connectors, which can be automatically places and fixes on printed cards, especially by surface mounting.

It appeared that problems arise for electrical connectors for connecting a cable to the card, especially because the connector element mounted on the card is subject to mechanical stress more or less important during operations of coupling and uncoupling, carried out on more often manually, with the connector element corresponding attached to the cable.

In the case of surface mounting, the coupling forces and uncoupling are transmitted from importantly on the solder and the studs of the menu. To avoid a break in the element's connection of connector attached to the card, we add, most of the time, to this connector element fixing means mechanical on the card, especially of the type screw nut. This prevents such extensive miniaturization that we wanted it from the connector and introduced a additional assembly step, so that the connector cannot be fixed on the card during mounting and the automatic fixing of the other components.

However, in modern equipment, it is important to have connectors, such as connectors coaxial, as miniaturized as possible, suitable for mass produced economically, and able to be fully installed and fixed automatic on printed cards.

En outre le document EP-A- 419 938 décrit un connecteur selon le préambule de la revendication 1.As an application we can cite the equipment of portable mobile radio telephones such as those of the new European generation GSM (Special Group Mobile) intended to operate at frequencies of 900 MHz, and for which it is important to make connectors coaxial microminiatures to ensure the connection coaxial cables to printed circuit boards electronic equipment. In addition EP-A-419 938 describes a connector according to the preamble of claim 1.

The present invention proposes to provide a connector coaxial for connection of a coaxial cable to a printed circuit board, suitable for to a very large miniaturization while being able to be made with few elements by manufacturing techniques simple, the connector according to the invention is suitable in addition to automatic positioning and fixing on the map at the same time as the others components of the fact that it does not require mechanical means additional fixing.

The coaxial connector according to the invention comprises two connector elements each comprising a central contact, male and female respectively, one contact of external mass and an insulator between the central contact and the earth contact, said connector elements comprising means for their connection electric,

De préférence, l'élément de connecteur destiné à être fixé àla carte imprimée et agencé en embase cylindrique, comporte un contact central femelle élastique, et l'autre élément de connecteur agencé en fiche et destiné à être fixé au câble coaxial, comporte un contact mâle en forme de broche, les moyens de verrouillage coopérants desdits contacts centraux étant constitués par un bourrelet intérieur du contact femelle apte à s'engager élastiquement dans une gorge de retenue prévue à la périphérie du contact mâle lors de l'engagement axial du contact mâle dans le contact femelle.means for fixing them to the end of a cable coaxial and respectively on a printed card and cooperating latching locking means, the connector element intended to be fixed to the printed board being arranged in a cylindrical base (1) comprising a ground contact, provided in one piece to its rear part of means (5) for fixing it to a printed card and a central contact (9) arranged in a central hole (8) with tubular insulation (6) and also provided in one piece, at its rear, means (12) for its attachment to said printed card, and the element connector intended to be fixed to the coaxial cable being arranged in plug (2) comprising a tubular part (16) connection at the end of a coaxial cable and a tubular coupling part (15) comprising a cylindrical outer sleeve forming ground contact (22), and a central contact (26) comprising at its part rear connection means (27) for the conductor central (17) of the coaxial cable, and immobilized in a tubular insulator (23) retained in said outer sleeve (22), said connector being characterized by the fact that the ground contact of the connector element arranged as a base (1) is an outer sleeve (3) radially elastic over at least part of its height and around which the outer sleeve engages cylindrical (22) of the connector element arranged in plug (2) and that said central contacts of the two elements connector comprise said locking means by cooperating snap-in. Preferably, the connector element intended to be fixed to the printed circuit board and arranged in a cylindrical base, includes a elastic female central contact, and the other element of connector arranged in plug and intended to be fixed to the cable coaxial, has a pin-shaped male contact, the cooperating locking means of said contacts central being formed by an inner bead of the female contact capable of engaging elastically in a retaining groove provided at the periphery of the contact male during axial engagement of the male contact in the female contact.

In a particular embodiment, the contact female is made in the form of a section piece substantially U-shaped retained by its rear part in the central hole of the tubular insulation in which it is mounted, and the two elastic branches of which are tilted slightly towards each other towards their free end, and each have a part end folded inward towards the other plugged. The folded end portions of the two arms constitute the internal bead of female contact able to engage in the peripheral retaining groove of the corresponding male contact.

For its connection and fixing to the printed board, the female contact, in this embodiment, advantageously has at its rear part a tab in one piece with the soul connecting the two branches elastic, said tab being folded 90 ° outwards with respect to the axis of the connector element in which is mounted the female contact.

The outer sleeve forming the ground contact of the connector element arranged as a base and intended for to be attached to the printed card advantageously comprises, over part of its height, at least one tongue cut out elastic projecting radially towards the outside of said socket in the disassembled state of connector.

The elastic tab (s) are compressed radially when fitting the outer sleeve forming ground contact of the connector element complementary, which ensures excellent electrical contact between the earth contacts of the two elements connector.

The outer sleeve forming the ground contact of the connector element arranged as a base comprises advantageously for its fixing and its connection on the printed card a plurality of legs folded towards the outside relative to the outside socket in the same plane at 90 ° relative to the axis of said socket.

Thus, the connector element arranged as a base and with the different legs mentioned above extending the central contact and the ground contact can be surface mounted on a card printed circuit board.

For this purpose, conventionally, deposit by brazing cream screen printing on the pads provided on the card, we put the connector element arranged as a base as well as the other components to be fixed on the card and we cause the solder cream to melt again infrared or vapor heating.

For error-free positioning of the element connector arranged as a base, the legs to be brazed, made in one piece with the outer sleeve forming ground contact, are preferably different from one tab extending the central elastic contact. So by example the tab of the central contact may have end chamfers.

The connector element arranged as a base according to the invention thus advantageously consists of three parts only capable of being manufactured by techniques simple. According to the invention, it is possible to carry out in economic conditions a connector element microminiature, that is to say in practice that can have a height of the order of 2 mm.

Indeed the connector element arranged as a base as indicated above, has an external socket which can be produced economically by cutting and rolling of a sheet, for example of copper alloy, a simple form of insulation that can be made by molding, and a central contact which can be produced by cutting and bending a sheet of copper alloy.

The other connector element arranged in plug and intended to be mounted at the end of a coaxial cable, is preferably angled and its tubular part of connection at the end of the coaxial cable is arranged at right angles to the tubular coupling part, and preferably made in one piece with she.

The rear end of the outer sleeve of the part coupling is provided with a sealing element installed after connection to cable coaxial, the closure element being either a cover reported, or a folded part of the wall of the socket outside.

The plug-in connector element can, same as the other connector element, be made in large series by economical processes.

Thus, the connector element arranged in plug can consist of only three parts, namely a body comprising the outer sleeve of the coupling part and the tubular part for connection to the cable, this body can be produced by molding in particular a zinc / aluminum alloy, a central contact made by machining and an insulator produced by molding.

In the event that it is not a wall element which is used to seal the rear end of the outer sleeve, the connector element arranged in plug comprises a cover as a fourth piece, the cover can also be done in a simple way and economical.

The connector according to the invention comprises an element of connector arranged in base, designated overall by 1, intended to be fixed to its rear part on a printed electronic circuit board (not shown and a connector element, generally designated by 2 and arranged in plug attached to the end of a coaxial cable, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.

On va maintenant décrire tout d'abord l'embase 1 en se référant plus particulièrement aux figures 3 à 8.We will now first describe the base 1 with particular reference to Figures 3 to 8.

The base 1 includes a cylindrical metal socket 3 from which two tongues are cut elastic 4, extending over part of the height of the socket and projecting radially from its periphery.

A sa partie arrière, la douille 3 se prolonge par trois pattes 5 cambrées dans le même plan à 90° vers l'extérieur par rapport à la douille 3.At its rear part, the socket 3 is extended by three legs 5 arched in the same plane at 90 ° outwards relative to socket 3.

Inside the central hole 8 of the insulation 6, is mounted a female central contact 9 which, as seen in the better in Figure 3, consists of a section piece substantially U-shaped with two elastic arms 10 connected to their rear part by an extended core 11 by a tab 12 extending radially outward.

As seen in Figures 6 and 8 the end of lug 12 has two end chamfers 13 constituting means of polarization to distinguish it tabs 5 for positioning the base on the map.

The elastic branches 10 are in their rear part fitted tightly in hole 8 of insulation 6 and are inclined towards each other in the direction of their free front end to be able to deviate elastically when engaging a corresponding male contact.

The ends 14 of the arms 10 are folded in direction of each other so as to constitute a bead interior.

The legs 5 and 12 are intended to be brazed by their end face on corresponding studs of a printed electronic circuit board.

Because a certain axial distance ( e , FIG. 7) corresponding to the height of the section 6b of the insulation separates the rear end of the ground contact socket 3 from the tab 12 extending the central contact, a good electrical insulation between the earth contact and the central contact.

On va maintenant décrire en se référant aux figures 1 et 2, l'élément de connecteur complémentaire agencé en fiche 2.We will now describe with reference to the figures 1 and 2, the complementary connector element arranged in sheet 2.

The plug 2 comprises a tubular coupling part 15 to the base and a tubular part 16 for connection coaxial cable.

In the example illustrated, plug 2 is bent and the connection part 16 extends at right angles to relative to the coupling part 15, which allows a arrival of coaxial cable parallel to the printed board.

The coaxial cable comprises in a conventional manner a central conductor 17 separated by an insulator 18 of a braid 19 forming ground contact and surrounded by an external protective sheath 20.

The connection part 16 includes a sleeve tubular 21 in contact with which the end is brought stripped of the ground conductor 19 of the cable for y be fixed by soldering or crimping.

The coupling part 15 comprises a socket cylindrical 22 in one piece with the sleeve 21 and able to engage on the socket 3 of the base 1.

A central contact 26 is housed in the socket 22 in being immobilized in the insulator 23. This contact is cylindrical and has at its rear end a slot 27 in which the stripped end of the conductor engages central 17 of the cable to be immobilized therein by soldering or crimping.

The head portion 29 has a frustoconical end extended by a cylindrical part itself connected by a short transition part to a part of reduced diameter 30 which makes a groove between the part end 29 and the part of contact 26 retained in insulation 23.

When making the connection of the two elements connector 1 and 2, the head portion 29 of the contact central 26 of file 2 is inserted between the branches 10 of the central contact 9 of the base 1, elastically spreads these branches which, after passing the head, return elastically so that their ends curved 14 engage by snap-fastening in the groove 30 of the contact 26.

We thus realize, at the level of the central contacts connector elements, snap lock. Contact is simultaneously made between the respective outer sockets 22 of plug 2, and 3 of the base 1 by pressing the socket 22 on the tabs sleeve 4 elastic 3.

The design of the connector elements according to the invention allows a separation of the two elements of connector without exerting significant efforts on the base which could cause a separation of the latter of the card, thus making any mechanical means unnecessary fixing the base on the card. The extraction effort can be minimized by appropriate conformation folded ends 14 of branches 10 of contact central of the base and the transition part on the male contact 26 between the end part 29 and the part of reduced diameter forming retaining groove 30. In particular, the connector element arranged as a base can be provided with other means, such as pins for its fixing to the printed circuit board.
