Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for producing white and black oxide-ceramic surface layers on silicon-containing light metal casting alloys by means of plasma-chemical anodic oxidation.
The disadvantage of this solution is
- that the suspension must be constantly stirred in order to avoid settling of the disperse constituents,
- that must be refired at 900 o C after the deposition of the layers, and thus the method is unsuitable for light metals,
- that no information on adhesive strength is shown in the patent.
- that either no statements are made about the electrolytes used - DD 151 331,
- or that all electrolytes contain fluoride and thus pose problems in disposal,
- that no concrete statements are made about the adhesive strength of the layer produced - PS DD 142 360; DD 218 637,
- that by the appearance of a "grainy" surface only one reduced adhesive strength is to be expected - PS DD 142 360,
- that no information on the resistance to corrosion or the layer produced can be found - PS DD 209 661; DD 218 637,
- and that complex post-treatments place increased demands on production technology.
Ebenso sind seit kurzem Elektrolyte zur Erzeugung extrem dünner schwarzer Konversionsschichten und Elektrolyte zur Erzeugung weißer, thermoschockbeständiger, haftfester, oxidkeramischer Oberflächenschichten auf Leichtmetallen und deren Legierungen bekannt, die ebenfalls mittels plasmachemischer anodischer Oxidation realisiert werden.PS DE 40 17 711 A1 describes an electrolyte for producing strong, deep black conversion layers on light metals or their alloys, which are realized by means of the ANOF process. Likewise, electrolytes for the production of extremely thin black conversion layers and electrolytes for the production of white, thermal shock-resistant, adhesive, oxide-ceramic surface layers on light metals and their alloys have also become known, which are likewise realized by means of plasma-chemical anodic oxidation.
- Beizen in 10 - 20prozentiger Natronlauge (NaOH)
- Passivieren in 10prozentiger Salpetersäure (HNO₃)

- 2. gleichmäßig strukturierende Ätzung in Phosphorsäure, Wasserstoffperoxid bzw. Schwefelsäure und Wasserstoffperoxid;

From the specialist literature (as described, for example, in the pocket book for electroplating,
- Degrease with standard degreasing agents or in an ultrasonic bath
- Pickling in 10 - 20% sodium hydroxide solution (NaOH)
- Passivation in 10 percent nitric acid (HNO₃)
- rinsing in distilled water between each process step
The following solutions for pretreating surfaces of aluminum materials are also known from the patent literature:

- DD 251 905 - Improvement of the adhesion and contact behavior of metal layers on p⁺ conductivity zones of A III -B V semiconductor components by treating the surface with etching baths from:
- a mixture of hydrofluoric acid, hydrogen peroxide and water and a second mixture of sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide and water;

- US 359 339 - Process for the electrochemical roughening of aluminum or its alloys in an aqueous electrolyte, consisting of nitric acid, oxalic acid and optional additions of boric acid, aluminum nitrate and / or hydrogen peroxide.
- that they are not suitable for the selective etching of the respective surface and therefore cannot be used for the pretreatment and the associated preparation of the surface for a plasma-chemical anodic oxidation on light metal casting alloys,
- and that they sometimes contain very complex devices and process steps,
- that the pretreatment, such as in DD-PS 235 442, is not sufficient to produce protective layers with high adhesive strength. Protective layers of this type have the disadvantage of a short service life and include small maintenance cycles in the event of susceptibility to corrosion, which have an effect on warping and cracking.
The US-PS 40 94 752 describes a wet chemical etching process using an etching solution based on HF and HNO₃. As a disadvantage, it must be mentioned that
- that no reproducible roughening of the surface is possible
- and that there is deposition of decomposition products on the surface.
- . das Plasmaätzen;
US-PS 730 988, DE-OS 36 27 311,
DE-OS 29 30 290, DE-OS 29 30 293,
US-PS 39 40 504, US-PS 40 69 096
DE-OS 34 20 347 - . das Ionenätzen,
DE-OS 30 45 922 - . das kathodische Zerstäuben und dgl.
- . das Plasmaätzen;
- the dry process, like
- . plasma etching;
US-PS 730 988, DE-OS 36 27 311,
DE-OS 29 30 290, DE-OS 29 30 293,
US-PS 39 40 504, US-PS 40 69 096
DE-OS 34 20 347 - . the ion etching,
DE-OS 30 45 922 - . cathodic sputtering and the like
- . plasma etching;
Die Nachteile dieser Verfahren bestehen insbesondere darin,
- daß vor dem eigentlichen, möglichst selektiven Ätzverfahren die zu ätzende Oberfläche einer aufwendigen Vorbehandlung unterzogen werden muß, beispielsweise wird die Oberfläche mit einem organischen Resist überzogen, an definierten Stellen bestrahlt und entwickelt. Dadurch entsteht eine Resistmaske, die bestimmte Oberflächenbereiche freigibt, die im anschließenden Arbeitsschritt geätzt werden;
- . US-PS 8 75 833 - Ätzlösung und Verfahren zum Ätzen von Silizium mittels Äthanolamin, Piperidin, H₂O, Pyrokatechol und H₂O₂;
- . DE-OS 29 50 541 - Reinigen der Oberflächen von Siliziumplatten mittels Flußsäure;
- . JP-PS 139 620/84 - Ätzen einer polykristallinen Siliziumschicht mittels Salpetersäure und Wasserstoffperoxid;
- that before the actual, as selective as possible etching process, the surface to be etched has to be subjected to a complex pretreatment, for example the surface is coated with an organic resist, irradiated and developed at defined points. This creates a resist mask that releases certain surface areas that are etched in the subsequent work step;
- that the bombardment with high-energy particles causes radiation damage in the remaining material, such as lattice defects, which complicate or prevent further treatment of the etched surface,
- that high resist erosion also occurs due to the above-mentioned bombardment
- and that an undesired etching of a layer of the body lying under the layer to be etched, or disturbing undercuts, are to be noted.
- the wet chemical etching process
- . US-PS 8 75 833 - etching solution and method for etching silicon using ethanolamine, piperidine, H₂O, pyrocatechol and H₂O₂;
- . DE-OS 29 50 541 - cleaning the surfaces of silicon plates using hydrofluoric acid;
- . JP-PS 139 620/84 - etching of a polycrystalline silicon layer using nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide;
- . US-PS 637 874 - Production of an electronically passivated surface on crystalline silicon by means of hydrofluoric acid and an organic top layer under inert gas
- that in some cases no exact compositions of the etchant are given,
- that complex pretreatments of the material to be etched are necessary,
- that the process step "etching" is only carried out in complex apparatuses,
- and that material is only removed over the entire surface of the material to be etched,
- that no strictly controllable etching profiles can be created
- and that extensive masking work must be performed for any selective etching.
- DD-PS 208 886 - to reduce Selective etching of phosphorus-doped silicon layers in a hydrofluoric acid etchant, wherein the silicon dioxide must be annealed in a hydrogen atmosphere at 600 to 1000 ° C to the high etching rate,
- DD-PS 238 622 - Selective acting etchant for etching doped silicon dioxide or silicate glass layers. This etchant consists of hydrofluoric acid and a water-miscible organic solvent of low polarity, preferably dioxane. Specific information on the etch rate selectivity of the etchant and the selective removal of the silicon surfaces are not shown.
- DD-PS 206 168 - Etching agent for structuring polycrystalline silicon layers, consisting of a mixture of acetic acid, hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid, water, silver nitrate and a catalytic amount of nitrite ions. Here, too, there is no concrete information on the etch rate selectivity of the etchant and on the selective removal of the polycrystalline Silicon surfaces reported.
- US-PS 793 402 - etching solution and etching method for doped silicon, consisting of hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid or acetic acid. Here too, no information about the etch rate selectivity of the etchant is detectable.
- DD-PS 249 706 - Etching agent for etching silicon dioxide or glasses containing silicon dioxide on semiconductor materials which are partially covered with aluminum. The etchant, consisting of a sodium salt, a dilute hydrofluoric acid solution and a cationic surfactant, is intended to avoid the removal of the aluminum during the SiO₂ etching. A disadvantage of this solution is that this form of structuring silicon dioxide is selective, but not sufficient to prepare the material for further treatment, such as plasma-chemical anodic oxidation for the production of oxide-ceramic surface layers on light metal casting alloys.
- that with the wet chemical etching process he basically removes material over the entire surface of the material,
- that in order to enable selective etching, in some cases extensive pre-treatments in the form of masking processes have to be carried out,
- that in certain cases a selective etching is possible without a masking process, but no controllable etching profiles can be generated,
- and that such etching variants are insufficient for further treatment of the material with regard to its qualitative parameters, for example the production of oxide-ceramic layers by means of plasma-chemical anodic oxidation on light metal casting alloys.
The invention is illustrated by the following preferred and non-limiting examples.
An aluminum casting made from the alloy G-AlSi10Mg degreased in an ultrasonic bath is mixed in a mixture consisting of
- 10 parts of nitric acid HNO₃ (65 percent)
- 1 part HF hydrofluoric acid (48 percent)
After a rinsing process under running water, the aluminum casting is in an electrolysis bath consisting of an aqueous solution of
- 0.59 mol / 1 = 80 g / l potassium dihydrogen phosphate - KH₂PO₄,
- 0.05 mol / l = 10 g / l potassium chromate - K₂CrO₄
- 0.35 mol / l = 70 g / l copper acetate - Cu [CH₃C00] ₂ · H₂O,
- 0.22 mol / l = 50 g / l ammonium citrate and
- 0.38 mol / l = 100 ml / l ethylenediamine
The deep black oxide ceramic surface thus obtained has a layer thickness of 8 μm. The reflectance is 6% at 540 nm.
With the method according to the invention there is a coating variant for aluminum castings, which makes it possible to provide castings with a complicated matting, deep black surface layer due to the high encompassment of the plasma chemical oxidation, and to provide them, for example, for use in optical device construction, especially where high absorption capacity and small amounts of scattered light are required.
A degreased aluminum casting made of the alloy G-AlSi7Mg is made in a mixture consisting of
- 10 parts of nitric acid HNO₃ (65 percent),
- 1 part HF hydrofluoric acid (48 percent)
- and 11 parts of distilled water
After a rinsing process under running water, the aluminum casting is made in an electrolysis bath consisting of an aqueous solution
- 0.6 mol / l = 80 g / l potassium dihydrogen phosphate - KH₂PO₄,
- 0.5 mol / l = 140 g / l sodium carbonate - Na₂CO₃ · 10H₂O
- 0.4 mol / l = 25 ml / l ethylenediamine and
- 0.4 mol / l = 25 ml / l 25 percent NH₃ solution
With this coating, a white oxide ceramic surface layer with a thickness of 20 µm is obtained on the aluminum casting. The reflectance at 540 nm is 72%.
To demonstrate the prerequisite created by the pickling for the production of oxide-ceramic layers by means of plasma-chemical anodic oxidation on silicon-containing aluminum castings, investigations were carried out with the analytical scanning electron microscope "Jevl".
- Figure 1
- shows the diagram of an examination of the untreated surface of an aluminum casting of the alloy G-AlSi10Mg with the scanning electron microscope.
- Figure 2
- represents the diagram of an examination of the pickled surface of the same aluminum casting with the scanning electron microscope.
It can be concluded that a selective etching of the surface takes place and thus the prerequisites for a coating by means of plasma chemical anodic oxidation on silicon-containing light metal cast alloys have been created.
- 20 g Natriumacetat
- und 30 ml Fluorwasserstoffsäure (40prozentig)
- 20 g sodium acetate
- and 30 ml of hydrofluoric acid (40 percent)
