Am unteren Ende der Stütze 12 sind an der umschlungenen Tragwalze 1 quer über die Arbeitsbreite mit regelmäßigen Abständen Vorsprünge 15 mit einem Zapfen befestigt, auf denen jeweils eine Umlenkrolle 16 mit der zugehörigen oberen Rolle 14 fluchtend und frei drehbar fliegend gelagert ist. Die Umlenkrollen 16 weisen einen erheblich größeren Durchmesser als die oberen Umlenkrollen 14 auf. Bei hochgefahrener Stütze 12, also in Arbeitsposition, reichen sie bis nahe an die Tragwalze 1. Die über die gesamte Arbeitsbreite mit Abstand voneinander angeordneten Riemen 17 sind so in der Lage, einen Bahnanfang an der Tragwalze 1 zu halten und während des Transports nach oben zu führen. Sie enthält eine in die Bahn 5 bewegbare gezahnte Perforierklinge 20, um schwerere Papiersorten, z. B. Karton, entlang einer Schwächungslinie zu schwächen. Die Bahn 5 wird dann - wie später näher beschrieben wird - durch Erhöhung des Bahnzugs entlang der Schwächungslinie durchgerissen, sobald sich die Schwächungslinie an der gewünschten Position im Walzenbett 3 befindet. Die Bahnzugserhöhung erfolgt dabei durch Drehen der vollen Wickelrolle 4 mittels einer Tragwalze 1, 2 gegen eine Bremskraft, die z. B. von der nicht dargestellten Abrollung aufgebracht wird. Unterhalb der umschlungenen Tragwalze 1 - bei vorhandener Perforiereinrichtung 19 in Bahnlaufrichtung hinter dieser - sind über die Arbeitsbreite mehrere Klebebandspender 21 angeordnet, die jeweils mittels einer gegen die Tragwalze 1 andrückbaren Andrückrolle 22 doppelseitig klebende Klebestreifen 23 auf die Bahn 5 auftragen. Anschließend werden die vollen Wickelrollen 4 über die Tragwalze 3 mit dem Ausstoßbalken 26 ausgestoßen und neue Hülsen 8 bzw. 9 werden in das Walzenbett eingelegt. Unabhängig vom Durchmesser der Hülsen 8, 9 befindet sich der mit Klebestreifen versehene Bahnanfang noch unterhalb der Kontaktlinie der Hülsen 8, 9 an der Tragwalze 1. Auch bei dieser Verfahrensweise wird die Bahn 5 im Walzenbett 3 unterhalb der Kontaktlinie der Hülse 8 mit kleinstem Durchmesser an der Tragwalze 1 durchgetrennt.
