Claims (8)

  1. End-paper gluing unit for an adhesive-binding machine, this gluing unit being designed to position end-paper sheets against the first and last of the folded sheets of paper which form a book block, and to glue each end-paper sheet, at one side, to the folded sheet against which it has been positioned, said gluing unit being provided with a transfer channel for feeding the book block into a clamping-jaw conveyor constituting part of the adhesive-binding machine, with separate end-paper sheet channels which run lengthwise with the transfer channel and to which feeders are assigned, serving to pick off the end-paper sheets singly and to feed them into said channels, with transport elements for pushing the book block, in company with the end-paper sheets, forward into the clamping-jaw conveyor, and with glue-application discs for gluing the end-paper sheets to the first and last folded sheets, characterized in that the end-paper sheet channels (8; 23) effect a progressive transition from an initial position parallel with the transfer channel (2; 18), to a final, inclined position, in that glue-application discs (10; 26) are installed in the region where this final position is attained, said glue-application discs (10; 26) reaching upward into the end-paper sheet channels (8; 23) in order to apply a glue stripe to the area of each end-paper sheet (1a, 1b) near the back, these areas having been deflected by the end-paper sheet channels (8; 23), and said glue-application discs (10; 26) having inclined application surfaces (10a; 26a) which conform with the end-paper sheet channels (8; 23) and are in functional association with contact surfaces (8a; 23b) thereof, and in that means (30) of pressing the end-paper sheets (1a, 1b) against the book block (1) are provided and, if appropriate, means (23, 25) of offering-up the end-paper sheets (1a, 1b) to the book block (1) are provided.
  2. End-paper gluing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the end-paper sheet channels (8) extend right into the clamping-jaw conveyor (3) of the adhesive-binding machine and effect a progressive transition from the initial, parallel position to the final, inclined position, this transition beginning downline of where the clamping jaws (3a) of the clamping-jaw conveyor (3) close.
  3. End-paper gluing unit according to Claim 1, characterized in that the end-paper sheet channels (23), the glue-application discs (26), the offering-up means (23, 25) and the pressing means (30) are installed in the transfer channel (18) of the adhesive-binding machine, and the end-paper sheet channels (23), which effect a progressive transition from the initial position parallel with the transfer channel (18), to the final, inclined position, follow a course which brings them back to their initial position.
  4. End-paper gluing unit according to Claim 3, characterized in that the inside contact surface (23a) of each end-paper sheet channel (23) exhibits a longitudinal aperture (27) immediately downline of the glue-application discs (26), these longitudinal apertures (27) preventing contact between the guides and those areas of the end-paper sheets (1a, 1b) to which a glue stripe has in each case been applied.
  5. End-paper gluing unit according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the contact surfaces (8a; 23b) of the end-paper sheet channels (8; 23) have recesses (8c; 23c) which are matched to the circular-conical application surfaces (10a; 26a) of the glue-application discs (10; 26).
  6. End-paper gluing unit according to Claim 3 to Claim 5, characterized in that the end-paper sheet channels (23) and the guide rails (25) for offering-up the end-paper sheets (1a, 1b) to the book block (1) follow a course which, in the exit region, leads toward the book block (1), and at its end each end-paper sheet channel (23) is open on the side facing the book block (1).
  7. End-paper gluing unit according to any one of Claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the distance separating each end-paper sheet channel (8; 23) from the transfer channel (2; 18) is greater in the region of the glue-application discs (10; 26) than where the end-paper sheet channels (8; 23) begin.
  8. End-paper gluing unit according to any one of Claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the contact surfaces (23d) of the end-paper sheet channels (23) can be altered in the sense of vertically offsetting the end-paper sheets (1a, 1b) relative to the back of the book block (1).
