  • An improvement in the overall structure of the device can be made by virtue of an axis 60 around which the front part of the net 12 forms a loop. A portion of this loop, close to the end of the net passes over another axis 61.
  • This axis 61 is made movable by a double part 62. This part makes it possible to move the net according to the positions shown in the two views of the figure 13. These views show how it is possible to vary the angle of the lower zone of the net significantly with respect to the ground and thus obtain different directions of the ball, according to a more or less stretched parabola.

Description

The present invention relates to a new apparatus for tennis training, but which can be used, in general, for training in any other game in which a ball moving at high speed over long distances is used; this device is used as an effective partner, both by beginners and by people already used to these games.

The apparatus according to the invention has an important advantage over known "ball-throwing machines", which require, for their use, a large quantity of balls. It requires only one ball for training.

This important advantage results from the fact that even if one of the ball throws is badly directed, it still penetrates inside the device, due to the width of the mouth of it, a beginner can be placed less than two meters from the device. This device provides a game that is both educational and entertaining and can be applied to a large number of different games. This is not the case, for example, of the apparatus described in document WO-A 8 001 650, which comprises inclined lateral uprights and supported by feet, a fabric stretched between the lateral uprights, the apparatus having a cover shape at its upper part; this cover allows the bounce of the ball. This device does not include means for holding the ball in an area facing the player; it follows that the player must show great skill in order to train with only one ball; if his address is unimportant, this player must have a large quantity of balls, to avoid picking up any ball lost as a result of an awkward stroke. This known device is also not very adaptable to a large number of different games.

The invention remedies these drawbacks by proposing an apparatus, in which, after the ball has entered it, it cannot come out of it randomly because it is always directed towards one of the exit paths planned; these again direct the ball into the area where the player is located, who can then resume playing in peace.

The apparatus according to the invention consists of a receptacle defined by uprights forming a structure of parallelepipedic external shape, closed on its sides and supported by four feet, a pair of which carries movable parts which can allow them to vary their height, and whose lower upright of the structure comprises a front extension articulated in its junction part and which is provided with a tie rod making it possible to make the whole rigid, this extension as well as the rest of the uprights facilitating the support of a net which, subdivided into various different zones and having a shape with a parabolic tendency, closes the apparatus both at the lower part than at the rear part, and which is extended to the front part by the front part and remains immobilized by means of a counterweight placed at its lower part, said net remaining stretched at its rear part by a transverse plate in its first zone, while the end of a conde zone is fixed to a tilting hatch closing the device at its upper rear; this hatch having another net which hangs from one of the plates which form it, while the rest of the upper surface is covered by a net folded to form an angle around an axis with its ends fixed by two bars, one of which is connected to a tension spring and the other slides in lateral guides, thus allowing to approach or move away said ends which causes a greater length of the net, while at its rear part, the device is closed by two plates connected to each other by a hinge, in such a way that the upper plate has the possibility of moving, leaving the inside of the device uncovered in a larger area than when it is lowered, while on two sides of the device and visible from the front, there are two large parts, which help the player to center the mouth of the entry of the device.

To use the device, the player stands opposite the front part and throws the ball inwards, so that it strikes the nets which occupy the lower and rear parts; the speed of the ball is damped and the ball changes direction depending on the angle of incidence; in any case, the ball reaches the outside by crossing the mouth of the device, even when a flap, located at the top, is closed.

When the upper hatch opens, the ball does not descend onto the entry net, but leaves through the upper part of the device, following a parabola more or less stretched according to the opening angle of the hatch, which allows you to practice volley or smash in the opening of the machine. If the hatch is open, and if the two plates which compose it are completely open, the ball which follows a vertical direction, ("lob") strikes the net fixed to this hatch and falls, thus damped, on the net of the upper part, the ball slides while this net to gently fall in front of the player, which is entirely suitable for beginners.

In another embodiment, it is possible to vary the arrangement of the upper hatch, by replacing it with an enlarged flat plate, divided transversely into two parts, joined together by hinges; the hatch is provided with an operating rod provided with two orifices. The second hole allows it to be fixed in position thanks to a protruding stud; it follows that when the hatch is open the two half-parts can have the shape of a double-pitched roof; the ball which reaches the hatch can then be returned with a different inclination depending on the position of the slope of the roof that it strikes.

It is also possible to vary the arrangement of the entire structure of the device, to facilitate its storage, by reducing its total volume; for this, it suffices to bring the front and rear feet together, leaving the front part projecting; this part is made sufficiently rigid, so that when you stop using the device, it is possible to fold it over himself and let him lean against what remains of his support; the overall volume is thus reduced significantly.

The new device, especially for tennis training, is therefore very complete and also makes it possible to try and repeat a large quantity of distinct games, which ensures its wide use, and justifies its great usefulness.

To facilitate understanding of the invention, the description is accompanied by drawings in which there is shown, by way of illustrative but nonlimiting example, an embodiment of an apparatus for tennis training, in accordance with invention.

As shown in Figure 1, the new device according to the invention for training in a game of ball and in particular in tennis, has a rectangular parallelepidedic structure 1, inclined, mounted on four feet; the rear feet 2 are provided with wheels 3, to facilitate the transport of the device, while each front foot has a lower part 5, connected to this foot by a pin 6 around which this lower part can pivot; this pivoting makes it possible to place the part 5 in the extension of the foot 4 (FIG. 2) and thus to increase the height of the foot 4. When it is not desired to use it, the lower part 5 is inclined backwards.

The paralleledipedic structure 1, which constitutes the general body of the apparatus, comprises external uprights 7, the lower front parts of which extend forward at 8 (FIG. 3); each external upright comprises an arm 9 joined to the lower front part 8 by means of a pin 10; a tie rod 11 retains this arm in position so that it makes it possible to adjust the relative position of the arm 9 with respect to the front extension 8 of the upright 7. This arm and this tie rod thus have a variable angle. A lower net extends in the device, both at the lower part than at the rear part; this net is subdivided into three zones 43, 44, 55, two of which are related (43 and 44). The front part of the zone 43 hangs freely and is ballasted with a mass 14; the upper end 15 of the zone 44 is connected to a movable hatch 16 extending transversely and which closes the device at its rear upper part.

The rear part of the device is provided with a transverse cover 17 whose lower part 18 can move at will by means of a hinge, this cover is located below the hatch 16, facing the player.

At its upper part, the apparatus also comprises an upper thread 19, folded in two parts around a transverse bar 20. The upper end 21 of the thread 19 is fixed by a tensioner 13, while the opposite lower end 22 moves on guides 23, thus allowing the said ends to be brought closer or further apart, by enlarging or decreasing the length of the thread 19. As a result, when the hatch 16 is open, the ball comes out through the opening thus formed in the upper part of the apparatus for sliding on the net 19 and falling in a damped fall in front of the player, at a variable distance.

As regards the rear hatch 16, this is fixed to a means 24 for controlling the rotation of the hatch projecting relative to the device and being able to rotate about an axis 25. This rotation is facilitated by the existence of a posterior element 26, joined to element 24, which, when pulled down, forces said hatch to rise, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. Once placed in the desired position, the hatch 16 is retained by means of a rod 27, the end 28 of which is introduced into one of the separate orifices presented by an extension 29 of one of the rear legs 2 of the structure.

If we refer to the hatch 16 proper, it consists of two rectangular plates 30 and 31, hinged together by a hinge 32. A bent metal lug 33 prevents the separation of the two plates when the hatch is closed. A counterweight 34 which moves rearward when the hatch is raised to the maximum, allows, when desired, to move the plate 31 relative to the plate 30 so as to place it in a perfectly open position relative to the plate 30 It is then possible to hold the plate 31 in its position, thanks to another rod 35, one end of which 36 is fixed to an extension of a rear leg, opposite to the extension 29 to which the rod 27 described above is fixed. In this position, the ball rises almost vertically and strikes the net 15 which dampens its movement, then the ball slides on the net 19, falling gently in front of the player.

The rear part of the device also comprises a transverse rectangular flap 37 fixed to an axis 38 around which it can rotate. In its lower part, this flap is joined, by a cord or the like 39, to the plate 30 of the hatch 16. The end of this cord, opposite the end by which it is fixed to the rectangular flap 37, is connected by a spring 40, to a part 41 integral with a handle 26 which allows you to move the hatch. When the hatch 16 is closed, the flap 37 bears against the net 44; in this position, we can play as if it were a pediment, by throwing the ball against a hard surface, while when the hatch is open, contact ceases between the flap 37 and the net 44 and we avoid thus dangerous bounces of the ball.

These figures show the upper part of the legs 4 which, in their lower extension, constitute the front supports of the structure on the ground; on both sides of the uprights and the feet, two screens are arranged preventing the ball from escaping; the upper part of Figure 6, shows the hatch 16. In Figure 7, there is shown, for better understanding, an enlargement which shows the feet 4, the side screen 42, the upper thread 19, and the guides 23 on which the axis 22 slides to which the end of the thread 19 is fixed.
Cette barre peut glisser à l'intérieur des guides 23 pour réduire la tension créée à l'autre extrémité 21 du filet 19, en permettant la contraction du ressort 13.FIG. 4 shows the arrangement of the device when it is used for tennis training, the hatch 16 being raised and its two plates 30 and 31 being separated by pivoting around the hinge 32. In this case, the flap rectangular 37 ceases to rely on the net 45 which, pulled outwards by the hatch and exits through the upper part of the device. Thus, when the hatch is perfectly maintained by means of rods 27 and 35, the ball launched at the bottom of the device, leaves outside, through the top of the device, and falls while being braked at top of the net 19 which then directs it towards the player, in a position completely distinct from that which is obtained when one plays in the manner of a pediment, as that is shown in FIG. 1. One can also vary the ball drop position, only by moving the net 19 and varying backwards or forwards, the position of the bar 22 which retains the lower end of this net. This bar can slide inside the guides 23 to reduce the tension created at the other end 21 of the thread 19, by allowing the spring 13 to contract.
  • La figure 5 montre une autre vue de l'appareil selon l'invention, pour l'entraînement au tennis, la trappe 16 étant ouverte, les deux plaques 30 et 31, qui la constituent, étant superposées et parallèles entre elles.FIG. 5 shows another view of the apparatus according to the invention, for tennis training, the hatch 16 being open, the two plates 30 and 31, which constitute it, being superimposed and parallel to one another.
Figures 8, 9, 10 and 11 show a second embodiment of a device closing flap at its upper part. In these figures, said hatch 48 forms a flat longitudinal element, joined by means of two axes 49 and 50, transverse to the general structure 1. The displacement of this hatch is carried out by means of a rod 27 'comprising two orifices 51 and 52 allowing the introduction of the projecting axis 50.

The fundamental characteristic of this second embodiment of the hatch 48 lies in the fact that the hatch is divided transversely into two rectangular plates 51 and 53 joined by a hinge 54 and directed from the rear to the front of the structure. This allows this hatch to take the form of a double-pitched roof, ensuring that the axis 50 is perfectly introduced inside the corresponding orifice of the rod 2T, by means of a spring 55. The movement of the rod 27, is transmitted to the hatch 48 by means of an articulated bar 56 fixed at 57 to the plate 52, placed at the top of the hatch. This makes it possible, as can be seen in FIGS. 10 and 11, to open and close the hatch and to arrange it in any position having the shape of a double slope roof, which differs in FIG. 10 and in Figure 11; for this it is sufficient to rotate the assembly and the rod 27 ′ which has two orifices 51 and 52 for adjusting its height, thus making it possible to vary the position of the point of rotation of the assembly.

An improvement in the overall structure of the device can be made by virtue of an axis 60 around which the front part of the net 12 forms a loop. A portion of this loop, close to the end of the net passes over another axis 61. This axis 61 is made movable by a double part 62. This part makes it possible to move the net according to the positions shown in the two views of the figure 13. These views show how it is possible to vary the angle of the lower zone of the net significantly with respect to the ground and thus obtain different directions of the ball, according to a more or less stretched parabola.

The various embodiments of the apparatus of the invention, which have been described with reference to the accompanying drawings, show the large number of possibilities offered by this apparatus, which can be used as an effective partner by anyone interested in training. in tennis or a similar game, whether this person wishes to learn this game, or whether he already has a thorough knowledge of it.
