Claims (9)

1. A laundry press comprising a perforated pressing basket (3), comprising a lid (4) which can be positioned on the basket and beneath which an elastic diaphragm (9) is attached so as to be pressure-resistant, where the pressing basket (3) can be tilted about a horizontal axis (8') for emptying and the lid (4) can be raised, lowered and swivelled independently of the pressing basket (3), and comprising a device (5,7) for introducing a pressure medium into the space between the lid (4) and the diaphragm (9), characterised in that the pressing basket (3) is approximately semi-spherical and that in the pressing basket (3) is arranged a flexible plate (21) which is connected to the diaphragm (9) and which, under the influence of the diaphragm (9), is pressed onto the batch of laundry which is to be pressed.

A laundry press as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that a dome (26) is provided which can be inverted over the pressing basket (3) and can be connected thereto in vacuum-tight fashion, and that a vacuum pump is provided with the aid of which the space between the dome (26) and the pressing basket (3) can be evacuated.
3. A laundry press as claimed in Claim 2, characterised in that the dome (26) serves as a trough for collecting and draining the extracted water.
4. A laundry press as claimed in Claim 1, 2 or 3, characterised in that on the inside of the lid (4) is arranged a shoulder which can be fitted precisely into the pressing basket (3), and that the diaphragm (9) is attached to the free end of this shoulder.
5. A laundry press as claimed in at least one of the Claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the device for introducing the pressure medium comprises a first, fast-acting pump (5), preferably a centrifugal or impeller pump, and a second pressure- generating pump (7), preferably a piston pump.
6. A laundry press as claimed in at least one of the Claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the basket and lid swivel axes (8, 8') are arranged horizontally and co-axially.
7. A laundry press as claimed in at least one of the Claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the lid swivel axis (24) is arranged vertically and that at least two pressing baskets (3) are provided for one lid (4).
8. A laundry press as claimed in at least one of the Claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the flexible plate (21) is made of hard rubber with a textile insert.
9. A laundry press as claimed in at least one of the Claims 1 to 8, characterised in that the inner surface (23) of the pressing basket (3) is coated with an anti-adhesive layer, preferably made of polytetrafluorethylene or melamine resin.
