Insbesondere ungünstig ist, daß die Tragplatte keinen eigenen Antrieb aufweist, sondern durch das Oberteil, sobald dieses dem Behälter aufliegt, nach unten gedrückt wird. Die Kräfte sind hierbei vom Behälter aufzunehmen, wobei es zur Zerstörung desselben kommen kann. 2. Method according to claim 1, characterised in that the lid rim (32) is pressed together with the container flange (5) by the lower part (10) moving into a further pressing position (NP) located above the upper pressing position (OP).
3. Method according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the container flange (5) is released from the supporting edge (13) by the lower part moving past the frame elements (16) into a midway neutral position (MN) located above the lower neutral position (MN).
4. Apparatus for closing a container (1) with a lid (2), where the former has a marginal flange (5) directed towards the outside of the container and the latter has a lid rim (32) projecting beyond the marginal flange (5), and container and lid consist of plastically deformable material, preferably aluminium foil, with a vertically movable lower part (10) and, fixed in a vertical direction, an upper part (9), with, below the upper part (9), a housing for the container, including the laid on lid or positioned lid blank, horizontally displaceable frame elements (16) associated with the upper part (9), for bending the lid rim (32) over or downwards and over under the marginal flange (5), and with a thrust face arranged on the lower part (10) for pressing the lid rim (32) together with the marginal flange (5) in conjunction with a mating thrust face arranged on the upper part (9) for carrying out the method according to claim 1, characterised in that the frame elements (16) are fixed in a vertical direction and are constructed as the housing for the container (1) during the horizontal bending over of the lid rim (32) under the marginal flange (5), and in that the lower part (10) comprises a supporting edge (13) for at least the inner marginal region of the marginal flange (5) or of the associated lid rim (32), which is . associated with the container walls (4), which supporting edge (13) is constructed to have a dual function for the entire closing process with the exception of the process of the aforementioned horizontal bending over of the lid rim (32) under the marginal flange (5), as housing for the container (1), and further as thrust face for pressing the bent over lid rim (32) together with the marginal flange (53)
5. Apparatus according to claim 4, characterised in that the supporting edge (13) is constructed so that it bears at least partly on the outside walls of the container (1).

Apparatus according to claim 4 or 5, characterised in that the lower part (10) is constructed to be movable from a lower neutral position (UN) into an upper pressing position (OP) for bending over the lid rim (32) and for applying at least a part of the lid surface associated with the supporting edge (13) against the mating thrust face (14) and from the upper pressing position (OP) in the direction of the lower neutral position (UN) for transient takeover of the container (1) and to maintain the latter bearing against the upper part (9) as well as for the bending over of the lid rim (32) by the frame elements and finally once more into the upper pressing position (OP) with a transient takeover of the container (1) which is bearing on the upper part (9) and which is released by the frame elements (16), so that the lid rim (32) can be pressed together with the container flange (5).
7. Apparatus according to at least one of claims 4 to 6, characterised in that the lower part (10) is constructed to be movable into a further pressing position (NP) above the upper pressing position (OP).
8. Apparatus according to at least one of claims 4 to 7, characterised in that the lower part (10) is constructed to be movable from the upper pressing position (OP) into a midway neutral position (MN) located above the lower neutral position (UN).
9. Apparatus according to at least one of claims 4 to 8, characterised in that the lower part (10) and the frame elements (16) are moved by a common drive means (24).

Apparatus according to claim 9, characterised in that the drive means comprises a knee lever (28) of which an outer joint (29) is connected to the lower part (10, 11) while the other outer joint (30) is fixed, and in that the knee lever (28) can be moved from an extended position which determines the upper pressing position (OP) in a direction as far as the relative deflected position determining the lower neutral position (UN) and in the other direction as far as a deflected position which determines the midway neutral position (MN).
11. Apparatus according to claim 10, characterised in that the knee lever (28) is driven by a rotating crank (25) to which it is connected by a coupling rod (26).
12. Apparatus according to claim 11, characterised in that in the extended position of the knee lever (28) the crank (25) encloses an angle other than 90° with an imaginary connecting line between the pivot joint (34) of the crank (25) and the middle joint (27) of the knee lever (28).
13. Apparatus according to at least one of claims 10 to 12, characterised in that the supported outer joint (30) of the knee lever (28) is constructed as an eccentric joint.
14. Apparatus according to one of claims 10 to 13, characterised in that the movement of the knee lever (28) is transmitted to the frame elements (16) by means of a joint and lever arrangement (21,31).
15. Apparatus according to claim 10, characterised in that the drive means comprise two serially disposed pairs of knee levers (40 and 41) connected by a joint (42) guided for vertical displacement by a sleeve (43) sliding on a rod (44).
16. Apparatus according to claim 15, characterised in that the two pairs of knee levers (40 and 41) are in each case driven by a coupling rod (46, 53) engaging with the knee joint (45, 52), in that each coupling rod (46, 53) cooperates with a curved track (51, 58) through a rocker arm (48, 55).
