Abstract

In order to make a decoration on a glass or dial of a measuring instrument, for example a wristwatch, a photosensitive layer is used to define the shape, onto which the design of the decoration is optically transferred. As a result, it is possible to make decorations with a very fine engraving and sharp contours, so that, for example, photographs and half-tones can also be applied.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for producing a decoration on a glass, case or dial, in particular with watch glasses, watch cases and dials of wristwatches.

An important step in the production of decorations, for example on a dial of a digital wristwatch, is the production of the contours on the base, according to which the decor is either etched out of a layer or the decor layer is electroplated. The screen printing process or the color printing process may suffice for the production of simple shapes. The transfer printing process has become established for the production of more precise and complicated forms. However, this transfer printing process is still relatively coarse and therefore does not allow a decorative layer with fine screening.

It is therefore an object of the present invention, a V indicate learn by means of which it is possible to produce decorative layers with great delicacy and fine screening. The method that solves this problem is described in the claims.

The invention will now be explained in more detail below with the aid of exemplary embodiments. The invention is based on the finding that the use of a photosensitive layer, a so-called photoresist and an op -. Tables transmission enables an original on this photosensitive layer, a hitherto unknown fineness of the decor layer and thus opens up new possibilities of decoration to watch glasses and dials. The use of light-sensitive layers to achieve very fine patterns is known in particular from the semiconductor industry, ie for the manufacture integrated circuits, but due to the even greater fineness and the necessary accuracy and complexity of the circuits, very high demands are placed on the optics and on the etching technology. When using a light-sensitive layer for decorative purposes, much less demands can be placed on the transmission optics, while the design options are significantly increased compared to the previously known methods for producing decorative layers.

In a first embodiment, the closed decorative layer, for example made of metallic materials such as gold, nickel, chromium, black chrome or metal oxides or other organic or mineral materials or a layer with a different refractive index for the light than the base, is then the photosensitive Layer applied and exposed through one or more masks with the aid of a relatively simple optics, after which the photosensitive layer is removed by developing the shape. The decorative layer, which is no longer protected with photoresist, is then removed chemically or mechanically. However, it can also be done in such a way that the light-sensitive layer is first applied, exposed and developed and then the decorative layer is applied to the areas which are no longer covered. The two processes mentioned can be repeated and also combined several times, the decorative layers being able to consist of different materials and colors.

By the use of light-sensitive layers and an optical system for designing the shape of the photosensitive layer, it is possible, half-tones and Schattierun g en by means of grids of holes and at least one light and to produce a dark color, whereby of course also uses multiple colors can. However, it is also possible to transfer a template, for example a photograph or some other image, to the photo layer and thus to the decorative layer. With this method it is possible to apply decorations in the form of characters, numbers, numbers or lines to a watch glass made of mineral glass, sapphire or plastic, whereby it is of course also possible to apply the decorations on both sides of the glass. The same also applies to other measuring instruments or on-board instruments of vehicles such as automobiles and airplanes. However, it is also possible to apply decorations to dials that are also made of glass, sapphire or plastic. As already mentioned above, it is also possible to apply a layer with a different refractive index to the glass as a decorative layer than the glass or the surrounding antireflection layer.

It is also possible to apply such a decorative layer to a housing.
