Description

Method of transmitting from a radio transmitter remote control signals for recording information on the receiver side.
The invention relates to a method of transmitting from a radio transmitter, in addition to the information itself, extra signals for remote control of receivers and/or associated equipment in order to effect a recording of the information on an information carrier.
It is known from U.S. Patent 3.705.953 to transmit from a radio transmitter control signals for automatic facsimile recording in a receiver station.
From U.S. Patent 3.851.116, it is known to place controlpulses together with information signals on a magnetic tape, the control pulses being used for localizing the beginning of a selected program.
An apparatus is known from Swedish Patent 378.494 which in a search sweep of a high frequency band selects a radio signal having a special marking from among a number of other radio signals.
From Swedish Patent 386.797, in connection with a mobile telephone system, remote control of the connection and disconnection of the system's energy source is known.
The object of the invention, however, is to enable one automatically to record selected programs from a broadcaster, for example, a radio program or a television program, on the receiver side.
This is obtained according to the invention in that the radio transmitter is a broadcaster whose announced programs are provided with markings corresponding to the transmitted control signal in coded form, and that the receiver is provided with equipment capable of being programmed which, in conformity with the coded control signals received in accordance with its programming, starts and stops the recording of the desired information, which has been provided with coded control signals by the broadcaster.
In this manner, the individual programs in the broadcaster's announced program schedule can be provided with markings, for example, a number, and at the beginning of the program the broadcaster transmits a control signal in coded form corresponding to this program's marking. On the receiver side, the listener or viewer can program his equipment to record the programs he desires in accordance with the associated markings in the announced program, such that when the associated coded control signal is received, a tape recorder or video recorder which is connected with the receiver is automatically started, and when the program ends, the broadcaster transmits a coded termination signal which stops the recording.
If a technical fault should arise, for example, in .the line connection, tape recorder or film scanner, or if the desired program is deleted from the day's program schedule, the broadcaster can transmit a coded control signal which prohibits recording on the receiver side.
In addition, in accordance with the invention, the program selector equipment can be programmed to arrange for the coded control signals, in a manner known per se, to be recorded on the information carrier together with the information, such that a desired program can at any time be reproduced from the recording carrier on the receiver side by adjusting the equipment for selection of the desired program.
The program selector equipment can be formed such that it can be utilized in connection with already-available receivers and recording apparatus, for example, a tape recorder or a videotape recorder.

Claims

Patent Claims.
1. A method of transmitting from a radio transmitter, in addition to the information itself, extra singals for remote control of receivers and/or associated equipment, in order to effect a recording of the information on an information carrier, characterized in that the radio transmitter is a broadcaster, whose announced programs are provided with markings corresponding to the transmitted control signal in coded form, and that the receiver is provided with equipment capable of being programmed which, in conformity with the coded control signals received in accordance with its programming, starts and stops the recording of the desired information, which has been provided with coded control signals by the broadcaster.
2. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the program selector equipment can be programmed to arrange for the coded control signals, in a manner known per se, to be recorded on the information carrier together with the information, such that a desired program can at any time be reproduced from the recording carrier on the receiver side by adjusting the programmed equipment for selection of the desired program.
