Lorsque l'eau des panneaux solaires est à une température supérieure à celle de la chaudière, une vanne thermostatique s'ouvre et se referme dès que l'inverse se produit. De ce fait la chaudière se met en route que lorsque l'échauffement solaire devient insuffisant pour maintenir la température pré-réglée. Pour la mise en fonction de la chaudière, un brûleur à mazout ne sert que pour une régulation constante. Le brûleur à mazout est pourvu d'un volet d'air automatique qui s'ouvre pour sa mise en route. Il sert à l'allumage du bois contenu dans le foyer si on désire assurer un chauffage au bois. Dès que la mise en combustion est faite, le volet d'air du brûleur se referme aussitôt, ceci afin d'éviter une contrariété avec la marche au bois ou au charbon. Cette régulation prend le relais pour régler la température de la chaudière lors du chauffage au bois. Dès que l'eau des panneaux solaires est supérieure à la température de l'eau de la chaudière, la régulation du bois se ferme pour ralentir au maximum, même pour arrêter la combustion de relais. Si la température des panneaux solaires baisse, le cycle recommence avec le brûleur à mazout. L'économie réalisée sur la consommation d'énergie traditionnelle est considérable.
