Abstract

The method involves determining traffic volumes with respect to a time point at supporting points (S1, S2, S3) arranged over a road network, where the traffic volumes are combined at a data set. Other two data sets are formed in a similar way and characterize the traffic volumes in the supporting points with respect to other time points. The data sets are combined to classes, which characterize similar traffic situations in the road network. The classes are used for forecasting a traffic condition and/or detecting an accident. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a traffic management centre, in which a method for forecasting a traffic condition in a road network is implemented (2) a method for controlling a traffic in the road network.
