Abstract
The invention relates to a mechanism (100) for generating a haptic signal in a portable device. The mechanism comprises a first vibration element (101) operable to generate a varying first force vector (103) in a substantially first direction (105) in response to a first activation signal (701). The mechanism further comprises a second vibration element (107) operable to generate a varying second force vector (109) in a substantially second direction (111) in response to a second activation signal (703). The vibration elements (101, 107) are mounted such that the first direction (105) is at an angle relative to the second direction (111). Thereby a combined force vector may be generated which has an angular movement. Specifically, phase offset sinusoidal signals may be used resulting in a rotating combined force vector having a rotating application point. This allows for haptic signals having a high psychophysical effect and specifically a haptic signal emulating the haptic signal of a vibration motor may be generated. <IMAGE>
