Description
The invention relates to one intended for fastening in a motor vehicle Display unit with a display, with an image on the display ent neither in a small, directed angular range nor in a large win area is visible.
Such display units are used, for example, for satellite navigation and used to display a television picture in today's motor vehicles and are known in practice. The display has a lower one right axis swivel, gela in a center console of the motor vehicle screen. This allows you to either the screen to the Fah or the passenger so that the illustration is only in a small NEN angle range is visible from their angles. Alternatively, you can to bring the display to a central position, in which the illustration in the large can be seen from both angles. Therefore, for example the passenger swings the display in his direction while driving ken and watch a television program without the driver from the traffic happen is distracted. Alternatively, the driver and front passenger can together, for example, the image of a city on the same display View plans of a satellite navigation.
A disadvantage of the known display unit is that the display is expensive storage and connecting cables for the display are difficult to lay. Furthermore, the arrangement of the display unit in the motor vehicle is designed very difficult because, for example, a mounted in a center console on the Passenger swiveled display often out of the angular range of the Driver can be viewed. The driver is therefore still from the Ver distraction distracted.
Aus DE 41 07 021 A1 ist ein vor oder auf einem Bildschirm angeordneter steu erbarer Filter bekannt, mit dessen Hilfe eine Totzone geschaffen werden kann, in der eine Übertragung von Bildschirmbildern zur Position eines Fahrersitzes unterbrochen werden kann; die Totzone umfasst einen kleinen Winkelbereich, in den die Position des Fahrersitzes fällt.DE 41 07 021 A1 discloses a control arranged in front of or on a screen known filter that can be used to create a dead zone, in which a transfer of screen images to the position of a driver's seat can be interrupted; the dead zone covers a small angular range, in which the position of the driver's seat falls.
The invention is based on the problem of a display unit at the beginning mentioned type so that the readability of the display for drivers and passenger is improved over the prior art.
According to the invention, this problem is solved by the features of the An claim 1 or claim 2.
With this design, the display can be fixed in the dashboard of the motor vehicle stuffed and with the small angular range on the passenger and with the large angular range can be aligned with the driver and front passenger. The The illustration on the display is in the second switching position of the LC element not visible from the driver's point of view. The driver is therefore not distracted from the traffic. Only in the first switch position the image is visible on the display in the large angular range. Here the driver and front passenger can see the image on the display. As LC Element, for example, a so-called TN cell is suitable. Since the inventions device according to the invention contains no movable mechanical components, it is particularly inexpensive to manufacture and assemble.
The small angular range in which the image is constantly visible can be almost eliminated Limit as desired if several LC elements are sandwiched one above the other are arranged. The small angular range is simply limited by coordinating the directions of polarization and / or the direction of friction of the glass plates and the LC elements.
An impairment of the readability of the display by the LC element can be according to another advantageous development of the invention just avoid it if the LC element behind the translucent shape teten display is arranged.
The illustration on the display is according to another advantageous Wei terbildung the invention illuminated evenly when the LC element on a light box provided to illuminate the display is ordered.
External light falling on the display could cause the driver of the motor vehicle even in the opaque switch position of the LC-Elements can recognize an image on the display. Such Influences of extraneous light can be according to another advantageous development simply avoid the invention if the display has a dark tint te surface.
Influences of extraneous light can be according to another advantageous development simply avoid the invention if the LC element before the dis play is arranged. The display can also be self-illuminating or be provided with reflected light.
The translucency of today's LC elements is usually strong Temperature dependence. You could think of a heating or To arrange cooling device on the LC element. This would have invented display unit according to the invention, however, high energy consumption. Wei terhin such a heating or cooling device would be a particularly ko the most intensive design of the display unit according to the invention. However, the display unit according to the invention is in the manufacture and in Operation particularly cost-effective if a control voltage of the LC Element can be regulated depending on the temperature. To always do that optimal difference between the light transmittances in z. B. Driver and Obtaining the passenger's line of sight can be temperature-dependent Voltage control can be very beneficial.
To change the control voltage depending on the tempera one could provide an electronic temperature sensor and the Control voltage depending on the signals from the temperature sensor regulate. The display unit according to the invention does not require a tempera door sensor if in front of the LC element in the small, directed angular area richly arranged a photosensor. This photo sensor determines from the light transmitted by the LC element electrical signals, according to de the control voltage of the LC element can be regulated. Next This design creates a particularly high difference in light permeability of the display unit according to the invention direction of observation ensured.
The light transmission of the display unit according to the invention can be for Adjust the driver and front passenger independently of each other if a second Photosensor arranged outside the small, directed angular range is.
The angular range of the photo sensors can be according to another advantage adhere to further limit the invention if the photosenso Ren each a columnar or tubular, directed towards the LC element Have aperture.
The passenger can see the light transmission in his viewing direction the display unit according to the invention according to its size or Set the seating position to an optimal value when the photo sensors are pivotable.
The angular ranges in which an image is visible on the display summarize according to another advantageous development of the invention in the motor vehicle simply by an optical element for imaging the limit light transmitted through the LC element.
According to another advantageous development, the optical element has the invention has a particularly low overall depth if it is a Fresnel lens or prism foil. This is especially the case in a dashboard of the motor vehicle provided display unit is particularly important since this location of the motor vehicle often very little space Available.
The display unit according to the invention has a particularly low weight, if the optical element is made of a thin-walled plastic.
The display unit is particularly versatile when the LC element has several independently controllable areas. To this Different information can be displayed in different display fields Nes are shown that are visible in certain angular ranges or are invisible. For example, in a field that is at a large angle, is clearly visible to the driver and front passenger, information about a radio station or a traffic management system, whereas Unterhal tion videos are shown in a display field that only in a small angle range (e.g. for the front passenger) is visible.
For further clarification two of them are shown in the drawing and their basic principle are described below. This shows in
Fig. 1 eine schematische Darstellung einer erfindungsgemäßen Anzeigeeinheit im Querschnitt, Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of a display unit according to the invention in cross-section,
Fig. 2 eine schematische Darstellung einer Ausbreitung von Licht in der erfindungsgemäßen Anzeigeeinheit aus Fig. 1, Fig. 2 is a schematic representation of a propagation of light in the display unit according to the invention from Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of the display unit according to the invention.
Fig. 1 shows one in a dashboard of a motor vehicle 1 in front of a driver and a passenger 2 3 Ad invention mounted geeinheit. 4 The display unit 4 has a display 6 arranged in front of a light box 5 and designed as an LC screen. Between the display 6 and the light box 5 there is an LC element 7, for example a TN cell. The light box 5 serves to distribute light emitted by a light source 8 arranged in a side region of the light box 5 . The LC element 7 and the display 6 have a common polarization filter 9 on their mutually facing sides. Furthermore, a further polarization filter 10 , 11 is arranged on the sides of the LC element 7 and the display 6 facing away from each other. On a region of the LC element 7 that projects beyond the display 6 , two photo sensors 14 , 15 arranged in tubular diaphragms 12 , 13 are directed at the angles α and β. The angles α and β each correspond approximately to the viewing angles in which the passenger 3 and the driver 2 of the motor vehicle are looking at the display 6 .
The display 6 is used, for example, to display television programs and city maps of satellite navigation. The LC element 7 has two switching stages. In a first switching stage, light penetrates from the light box 5 through the display 6 at approximately angles α and β, so that an image on the display 6 can be seen by the driver 2 and the front passenger 3 . In a second switching stage of the LC element 7 , the display 6 is only illuminated at approximately the angle α, so that only the front passenger 3 can see the image on the display 6 . To avoid external light influences, the top of the display 6 is tinted dark. The photosensors 14 , 15 control a drive voltage of the LC element 7 via electronics (not shown). This ensures the greatest possible transmission of the LC element 7 in the intended angle ranges and the greatest possible difference in light transmittance between the angles α and β in the second switching position of the LC element 7 .
FIG. 2 shows schematically the propagation of the light in the display unit 4 according to the invention from FIG. 1 in the second switching position of the LC element 7 designed as a TN cell. Diffuse light emerging from the light box 5 first strikes the polarization filter 10 of the LC element 7 . This polarization filter 10 only transmits polarized light in accordance with its direction of polarization. For the sake of clarity, the polarization directions of the polarization filters 9-11 and the polarization of the light are marked with arrows in the drawing. In the LC element 7 , the light undergoes a rotation of its polarization. The reason for this is an anisotropy of liquid crystal molecules of the LC element 7 . For example, in the voltage-free state of the LC element 7 designed as a TN cell, there is a helix structure of liquid crystal molecules which rotates the direction of polarization of the incident light by 90 °. With increasing drive voltage, the liquid crystal molecules arrange themselves more and more with the electric field lines, so that a rotation of the polarization direction continues to decrease. After the light has passed the LC element 7 , it reaches the common polarization filter 9 of the LC element 7 and the display 6 . With the polarization of the light shown, only light at the angle α is let through. The light coming from the angle β is absorbed. Thus, in the switching position of the LC element 7 shown, no light reaches the driver 2 symbolized in FIG. 1. The driver 2 can therefore not see any image on the display 6 . An appropriate choice of the liquid crystal molecules of the LC element 7 and the drive voltage applied to the LC element 7 allows the angles α and β to be chosen almost arbitrarily. The LC element 7 can be driven statically according to the required angular ranges in which the light is to be transmitted.
Contrary to the representation in Fig. 1 and 2, two Po larization filter can be attached between the display 6 and LC element 7 instead of a common polarization filter 9 , so that both the display 6 and the LC element 7 two (on the front and back ) has its own filters. At the expense of a greater amount of construction work, one obtains a decoupling of the components 6 and 7 in this way . Thus, the LC element 7 can be aligned independently of the polarization filters of the display 6, which improves the optical properties of the display unit.
Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of the present invention to display unit with two front of a display 16 disposed LC elements 17, 18. The angle range under which the display is visible can be further restricted with a second LC element. The display 16 can be, for example, so-called electroluminescence displays or field emission displays. The two LC elements 17 , 18 have a common polarization filter 19 and, on their sides facing away from one another, each have a further polarization filter 20 , 21 . The beam path of light through the two LC elements 17 , 18 corresponds to the propagation of light shown in FIG. 2. On the display 16 abgewand th side of the LC elements 17, 18 is a prism sheet 22 is disposed for imaging the light emitted by the display 16 light. However, the prismatic film could also be arranged between the display and an associated light box (see FIG. 1), thereby avoiding a possible impairment of the display quality of the display. By using two LC elements 17 , 18 and the prism foil 22 , a small, directed angular range in which the passenger 3 shown in FIG. 1 is located can be limited almost as desired.
