Abstract

Description

The invention relates to a multifunctional housing for electronic displays for the digital representation of scores, which allows a display integrated in this housing to be securely fastened to existing, standardized mounts.

Anyone who makes music intensively, whether alone at the piano, in a music club or in a band, inevitably has to manage a lot of paper notes. For this purpose, the sheet music is usually carried along in a folder and placed loosely on a music stand for making music. With multi-page scores, you can help yourself by sticking the sheets of music together. It can happen that you have to try to place approx. 1 meter of sheet music on a music stand or to find a place for it on the piano or digital piano. If you use music books, you have to turn the pages. With a bit of luck you can do this yourself or you can have the pages turned, which means that the person turning the pages must be able to read music in order to change the page at the right time.

In order to prevent this, it has become established that with the introduction of document digitization, paper notes are also displayed in digital form in order to display them on a computer.

It is state of the art for musicians to scan their sheet music and save their musical material, be it sheet music, lead sheets or texts, as a PDF file so that they can be displayed on a computer, notebook or tablet PC. The market now offers a wide variety of applications for the common operating systems in order to meet the needs of musicians. However, the central function remains the display of information on a screen and the scrolling of pages manually by touching a button or using touch displays with a swipe function, gestures or alternatively with a foot switch via a cable connection or radio interface.

In order to be able to display sheet music at least in its original size, at least a larger notebook or computer monitor is required. However, these devices were not explicitly designed for use as a sheet music display. For example, a notebook is difficult to place on a piano or grand piano. It would have to be placed upright on the music stand in order to be able to display scores in portrait format. Provided the construction of the music rest on the piano or grand piano is stable enough, this project remains a shaky affair. The same goes for a larger computer monitor. The base of a flat screen does not fit on a music stand and placing the monitor on the piano or grand piano is disadvantageous from an ergonomic point of view, since the musician has to look up to read the score.

If musicians want to use electronic devices to display sheet music or just lyrics, additional peripherals are required. Examples of such additional devices are in the utility model DE 822 85 44 U1 described. By attaching additional tripod clamps and holding arms, storage options are created to bring notebooks or tablet computers close to the musician. Since there are no attachment options for the sheet music display on the shelves, it is not protected against the risk of falling.

If sheet music is displayed digitally on commercially available screens, the following aspect must also be taken into account. We use the DIN format for paper documents and are used to this format being retained when printing, copying or scanning. The standardized format with an aspect ratio of V2:1 offers the advantage that two pages of the same size in portrait format next to each other have the same dimensions as the next larger DIN format in landscape format. Unfortunately, the industry doesn't offer us screens with an aspect ratio of 14:10. This means that a DIN A4 sheet of paper is either displayed enlarged on a monitor or, if the screen is too large, black borders are displayed. If a DIN A4 sheet of music is to be displayed on a tablet computer, the content is displayed in a reduced size to match the screen size.

With the writing CN 20 27 58 600 U another problem is revealed. If you treat it with care, a score in paper form has an almost infinite lifespan and, once printed, does not consume any further resources. Using a tablet computer to view sheet music requires a little more advance planning. Despite the improved battery life, it must be ensured that the power supply does not break off during use, even if the internal battery has run out. With a philharmonic orchestra, a concert can last several hours. It is easy to imagine what would happen if the batteries failed in series. According to the patent specification, the music stand has attachment options for attaching a power supply cable including a power supply unit to the music stand. In addition, it is felt to be disadvantageous that a lot of power cables and power connections have to be provided.

With writing WO 2005 055 194 A1 an electronic sheet music display is proposed in which a protective cover is attached to the display housing by means of hinges. In a preferred embodiment, the cover can be folded backwards by 180 degrees, so that the sheet music display, when placed on a music stand, is at least partially protected from accidentally falling down by the protective cover folded backwards.

From the U.S. 2015/0 348 523 A1 an electronic display for displaying notes is known, which can be set up using a bracket with a ball joint. In addition, the display can be connected to an electronic pedal to operate the display.

Furthermore, from the WO 01/50 452 A2 a display that can be set up or that can be hung on a holder is known for displaying notes.

In order to be able to display scores, song texts or individual sheets of music, the aforementioned technologies have proven their worth. In practice, however, it turns out that none of the devices can be used so universally that the typical and also different applications for musicians can be covered. Since most tablet computers have a glass display, there is always a latent risk that the devices could fall and, in the worst case, break the glass display.

The present invention is therefore based on the object of simplifying the setting up (use) of an electronic note or score display.

According to the invention, the object is achieved by a multifunctional housing according to the features of patent claim 1.

Advantageous designs and developments are possible as a result of the measures presented in the dependent claims.

Following the proposal according to the invention, an electronic display is used to display continuous musical scores, lead sheets or song texts. In order to be able to meet the requirement for a long battery life, especially for longer performances, a display with e-ink technology is used in accordance with the current state of the art in the preferred embodiment. Power is only required when page content changes and when backlighting is required. The fact that these e-ink foil displays are thin and therefore the weight of the unit is low even with the preferred display size DIN A 4 or 13.3 inches should not be underestimated. The film display technology used is also much more shatterproof in the event of accidental falls or being dropped. Of course, any other display technology can also be used, taking into account the disadvantages mentioned.

According to the invention, the electronic sheet music display device comprises a universal lower housing part. The standardized connection options integrated into the rear housing allow easy attachment and detachment of the sheet music device without increased effort. Above all, the musician only needs the housing according to the invention and can use this with standardized music or microphone stands, which are available in practically all rehearsal and concert rooms.

In the preferred embodiment, the central connecting element of the lower part of the housing consists of a 3/8 inch threaded socket which, according to the invention, is introduced near the center point of the housing surface. It is now possible to easily connect the electronic sheet music device to the 3/8 inch thread of a microphone stand on the boom using this threaded socket. Viewing angles and height adjustment are carried out using booms and the height adjustability of the microphone stand.

In a further embodiment, the music display device is connected via the 3/8 inch threaded socket using a ball joint adapter. To adjust the viewing angle, the device can be aligned and fixed in all conceivable positions using the ball joint. This embodiment is particularly recommended for microphone stands without a boom.

In a preferred embodiment, a specially designed microphone grip adapter is screwed onto the 3/8 inch threaded socket on the display housing. This allows the electronic sheet music device to be plugged directly onto a microphone clip. This variant is particularly recommended for tripods without a boom. The vertical viewing angle is adjusted via the microphone clamp joint by loosening the screw slightly, setting the preferred viewing angle and tightening the screw again. A height adjustment in the horizontal is done via the extension tube of the microphone stand.

In a particularly preferred embodiment, the combination of ball joint adapter and microphone grip adapter allows the sheet music device to be positioned on a flat surface, such as a table. In an alternative embodiment within the meaning of the invention, threaded inserts with a metric internal thread are fitted in the lower housing part of the electronic sheet music display device in a positive or non-positive manner. Due to the selected hole spacing, these threaded bushings correspond to the VESA standard for attaching monitors and televisions to the wall or ceiling. In the preferred embodiment, the threaded inserts are arranged according to VESA100 at a distance of 100 x 100 mm from one another. As a result, the rear wall of the housing of the music display device is compatible with the VESA standard, so that a connecting device in the form of a commercially available adapter can be attached to the rear wall of the housing using the available threaded bushings.

In one embodiment, this adapter is designed in such a way that a first adapter unit comprises a prismatic receiving unit into which a second adapter unit, a swivel joint arranged on a prism rail, slides in order to produce a detachable and re-establishable connection, the second adapter unit having a 3/8 inch threaded socket so that it can be firmly connected to the standardized 3/8 inch thread of a microphone stand. By means of the prismatic receiving unit, the sheet music display device including the adapter can be removed from the swivel joint by loosening the fixation.

In an advantageous development of the invention, the threaded inserts fulfill another function according to the VESA standard. In the event that the device is to be held securely in the hand for a longer period of time and to prevent the risk of it accidentally falling down, a holding strap is connected to the rear wall of the housing by means of one of the two diagonally opposite threaded inserts . Depending on the ease of use, left- and right-handers can change the strap in the fastening diagonal.

Furthermore, the music display device is held securely on metal music stands or music stands against accidental falling by means of a magnetic adapter. It is envisaged that at least one magnet adapter with an outer diameter will be screwed into the threaded inserts provided for the VESA standard.

In a further advantageous variant, it is envisaged that during the production process of the rear wall of the housing a soft component is embedded in the bottom, which as a non-slip component is intended to prevent the music display device from sliding off the music stand of a piano or grand piano. At the same time, the elastic surface should protect the sensitive paint surface from scratches.

The lower housing part 5 has two connection options. An interface to the remote control 11 for connecting at least one foot switch 12. This allows the information displayed on the electronic display 2 to be scrolled forward or backward. Another data interface 13 enables the inclusion of an SD card.

In the preferred embodiment, the housing 4.5 is made of plastic. All five threaded inserts 9,10 are installed after the housing rear wall 5 has been removed from the injection mold. The contact heat process has proven to be the preferred connection process for embedding metallic thread inserts in thermoplastic parts. The threaded inserts 9.10 are heated. There is plasticization in the area of the contact surface with a subsequent joining process, which creates a form-fitting connection. Alternatively, a non-positive connection with self-tapping thread inserts is also conceivable. Due to the low weight of the sheet music display device 1, the non-positive connection between the microphone clip 17 and the microphone grip adapter 16 holds the device 1 firmly in its position. For the purpose of adjustment to the personal needs of the musicians, the height in the vertical position of the sheet music display device 1 can be adjusted by the microphone stand 18. In addition, microphone clamps 17 have a joint 20 which allows the angle of the microphone clamp 17 to be adjusted. In order to obtain the optimum viewing angle of the device 1, the screw connection 21 of the joint 22 of the microphone clamp 17 is loosened.
