Description
The invention relates to a method for operating a device for detecting a physical or chemical quantity, wherein the device has an electronic unit with at least one optical interface, to which a fiber-optic sensor is connected. Furthermore, the invention relates to an electronic unit and a fiber optic sensor for performing the method.
In fiber-optic sensors with so-called Bragg gratings for detecting the temperatures at the various points of the fiber are by optical exposure at the desired locations of the glass fiber Bragg lattices virtually "burned". Each Bragg grating represents a sensor element with the aid of which "its" local temperature is measured by temperature-dependently reflecting a wavelength of the light radiated by the transmitter into the fiber. In the transmitter, the wavelength of the reflected light is precisely determined and calculated back to the associated temperature values via a calibration equation. A so-called fundamental wavelength indicates the wavelength of the light reflected by a sensor element at a basic temperature of, for example, 20 degrees Celsius. The fact that each sensor element is baked for a different fundamental wavelength, the transmitter can read in principle any number of sensor elements. In practice, the number of sensor elements on a fiber-optic sensor is often between 5 and 30. Depending on the application, limit wavelengths can additionally be defined for the individual sensor elements, above which an alarm can be triggered by which suitable measures are taken to respond to a possible fault condition can be arranged in a process engineering plant. Extensive calibration and / or parameterization data are therefore required for each sensor.
Electronic unit and fiber optic sensors can be manufactured separately. Often electronics units have multiple optical interfaces so that multiple fiber optic sensors can be connected to the electronics unit using, for example, an internal optical multiplexer. Manufacturers of fiber optic sensors often factory calibration is performed after the manufacture of the sensor, wherein, for example, in a fiber optic sensor with Bragg gratings for temperature measurements, among other things for the sensor elements, the above fundamental wavelengths are determined and recorded as calibration data. If, for example, a calibration data sheet is supplied by the manufacturer with the fiber-optic sensor, then the calibration data are printed in it, for example the abovementioned fundamental wavelengths and additional coefficients of characteristic curves of the sensor elements of the fiber-optic sensor which describe the optical property of the sensor used for measuring the temperature , In order for an electronics unit to be able to make measurements with the aid of a connected fiber-optic sensor, the current configuration of the device must be determined and calibration data of the connected sensor or the connected sensors entered into a program that runs on the electronics unit. The commissioning of the measuring device thus requires a complex adaptation of the running in the electronic unit evaluation program to each connected fiber optic sensors, which also requires a certain special knowledge of the user. The problem described occurs on the one hand during the installation phase, which often does not take place at the same time for the electronic unit and the sensors, which are also referred to as measuring lances. Often, the two components are not installed spatially adjacent. On the other hand, the problem occurs when replacing a measuring lance in later operation, since previously entered calibration data of the old lance must be replaced by the calibration data of the new lance.
The operation of measuring devices, which work on the basis of fiber optic sensors, is therefore relatively expensive.
The invention has for its object to find a method for operating a device, which facilitates the commissioning of the device and possible errors are reduced. It is a device for detecting a physical or chemical quantity, which operates on the basis of at least one fiber optic sensor. Further objects are to provide an electronic unit or a fiber optic sensor which are suitable for use in a device for carrying out the method.
To solve the former object, the new method of the type mentioned in the features specified in
The invention has the advantage that it can now be automatically determined by an electronic unit, for example when commissioning a device, to which optical interface a fiber optic sensor is connected as well as what type and / or which copy of the fiber optic sensor is involved. Thus, an automatic determination of the device configuration is obtained in which advantageously no manual input by the operator is required. This can almost eliminate errors in the determination of the configuration, which could well occur during the previous manual input. The new mode of operation of the device can be described by the keyword "Plug & Play".
Due to the advantageous method, electronic units can be distributed with fewer demands on an operator than individual devices, ie separate from fiber optic sensors, and combined with fiber optic sensors of virtually any type by the user, whereby these naturally also have to be designed for carrying out the operating method according to the invention. Likewise, fiber optic sensors in a variety of different types are each available as separate components and can be combined with the user with any suitable for the implementation of the operating method electronic units. Advantageously, therefore, a modular system for devices is possible whose measuring principle based on the use of fiber optic sensors. In addition, a repair service or retrofitting is facilitated if, for example, existing electronics units have to be serviced or replaced. The same applies to a supplement or an exchange of measuring lances.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the optically readable by the electronic unit identification feature uniquely identifies the copy of each connected fiber optic sensor. Thus, depending on the particular identification feature selected, specific calibration data can be assigned to the sensor and used to achieve an improved measuring accuracy of the device when detecting the physical or chemical quantity. Thus, not only the configuration of the device can be detected automatically, but it can also be sensor-specific predetermined calibration, which previously had to be manually entered consuming manually, now automatically read by a corresponding, running on the electronic unit program, so that they in an evaluation for accurate determination a physical or chemical quantity reading may be included by means of the fiber optic sensor. Since a smaller number of data has to be entered manually during commissioning, the probability of erroneous inputs is reduced and at the same time the commissioning of the measuring device is further facilitated. The configuration of the measuring device, which works on the basis of a fiber optic sensor, can therefore be largely automatic. Thus, the meter can be implemented as a field instrument of the process instrumentation, which can be parameterized with little effort and as for example a conventional temperature transducer, which works on the basis of thermocouples, or how a pressure transmitter can be integrated into an automation network.
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention is seen in that the electronic unit for reading the optical identification feature feeds light via the optical connector into the fiber optic sensor and thereby evaluates reflected light by the fiber optic sensor, wherein for each bit position of a digital value corresponding to the optical identification feature a predetermined Wavelength range is provided and it is determined whether incident light in the respective wavelength range is reflected by the fiber optic sensor. Thus, a kind of binary coding is obtained on the basis of a threshold value comparison, which is characterized by a high signal-to-noise ratio and high reliability.
An embodiment of the fiber-optic sensor, in which this is provided for the reflection of light in the predetermined wavelength ranges, each with corresponding Bragg gratings, has the advantage that for the production of the optical Identification feature of the same manufacturing process can be used, which already finds use in the production of sensor elements with Bragg gratings and is thus tested. As a result, no additional production step for the production of the optical identification feature is required for the production of a fiber-optic sensor. The manufacturing costs of the sensor are thus hardly increased by the attachment of the optical identification feature.
In addition, in an advantageous development of the invention, the wavelength ranges provided for the bit positions can be lined up in the spectral range of the reflected light. As a result, the wavelength ranges can be staggered very closely and only a comparatively small wavelength range of the entire available spectral range has to be reserved for the realization of the optical identification feature in the form of a binary coding. This advantageously results in a low "consumption" of measuring bandwidth in the spectral range of the reflected light. For each bit, a relatively narrow wavelength range is sufficient and the distance between the individual wavelength ranges is uniformly selected so that the electronic unit can easily differentiate each two adjacent wavelength ranges which are assigned to different bit positions in the spectrum.
The differentiability of the individual bit positions associated wavelength ranges can be further increased if the provided for the realization of the optical identification feature Bragg gratings are thermally coupled well together in the fiber optic sensor. This can be achieved, for example, by close spatial proximity of the Bragg gratings in the sensor and / or by additional thermal coupling, for example by mounting the Bragg gratings in a region of the measuring fiber which is located in a good heat-conducting metal cylinder of a mounting head of the sensor.
When Bragg gratings are used for realizing the optical identification feature, similar to the sensor elements of a fiber-optic temperature sensor based on Bragg gratings, a temperature-dependent shift of the respective position of the amplitude maximum of the light reflected by a Bragg grating occurs. This shift can advantageously be used to determine the temperature at the location of the optical identification feature, so that the Bragg gratings advantageously fulfill a dual function.
The method is preferably implemented in software or in a combination of software / hardware, so that the invention also relates to a computer program with computer-executable program code instructions for implementing the method outlined above and described below.
Since the wavelength ranges provided for the individual bit positions are lined up in the spectral range of the reflected light, the individual ranges can be selected to be comparatively narrow and can nevertheless be easily differentiated in the spectrum by optical signal processing in an electronic unit. It has a favorable effect if the Bragg gratings assigned to the individual bit positions are arranged spatially close to one another in the fiber-optic sensor and are thermally coupled to one another. With temperature variations, this has the advantage that the center wavelengths of the at the individual Bragg gratings shift reflected light in the same direction and no overlap of wavelength ranges occurs. With a simple algorithm in the electronics unit, tracking of the wavelength ranges assigned to the individual bit positions can be realized if necessary, and stable bit allocation can be achieved if required. From an exact determination of the wavelength shift of the wavelength range assigned to a bit position in the spectral range of the reflected light, it is also possible to deduce the temperature at the location of the Bragg grating assigned to the respective bit position.
