The object of the present invention is therefore to create a separator of the type specified above, which is designed as a complete external unit that can be flange-mounted to the internal combustion engine and which is easy to manufacture and assemble and has a low weight.
The object is achieved according to the invention with a separator of the type mentioned at the beginning, which is characterized in that the drive space is delimited on the one hand by the base body and on the other hand by a tub sealingly connected to the base body, with the flange being formed on the base body and on the tub that the oil drain runs through a flange part assigned to the tub and this flange part has a circumferential edge web and that a flange part assigned to the base body has a collar engaging behind the edge web over at least part of its circumference, which can be braced against the counter flange on the internal combustion engine with the edge web being interposed is.
With the invention it is advantageously achieved that the drive space of the separator is delimited to the outside by the base body and the tub connected to it, so that parts of the internal combustion engine are no longer required for delimiting the drive space. Because the pan has a flange part forming part of the flange for connecting the separator to the internal combustion engine, the oil can drain out of the pan for the lubricating oil that emerges from the at least one recoil nozzle of the rotary drive during operation in a simple manner and in the shortest possible way. It is also particularly advantageous that the flange part of the common flange assigned to the base body is used for bracing the flange part assigned to the trough. This makes it particularly easy to attach the separator to the internal combustion engine. The flange part of the tub is relieved of tension for the flange connection. All clamping forces are absorbed by the flange part assigned to the base body. The flange part of the tub is passively clamped with its edge web between the collar and the mating flange. Since the base body on the one hand and the tub on the other hand are separate parts that can be produced separately, they can also be made of different materials, whereby a lighter material can be used for the tub in particular than for the base body, which contributes to the low weight of the separator.
A preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the flange part assigned to the tub has a rectangular outline in its basic shape and that the collar has a fork shape open on one side and engages behind the edge web on three of its four sides. In this embodiment, the engagement of the collar of the base body with the edge web of the tub can be produced in a particularly simple manner and can also be easily released again if necessary.
In a further embodiment, it is proposed that the collar is open on its lower side in the installed position of the separator and that the tub can be attached to the base body from the open side of the collar parallel to the plane of the flange for its connection to the base body. With this embodiment, a particularly simple connection between the base body and the trough is achieved, since at the same time as they are connected to one another, the collar is also brought into its position in which it engages the edge web.
The collar preferably has an inwardly protruding pressure rib whose side facing the flange, when the tub is attached to the base body, is in contact with the side of the edge web of the tub facing away from the flange. The distance between the side of the pressure rib facing the flange and the flange plane is dimensioned so that when the separator is clamped against the mating flange, the edge web of the tub is pressed firmly, but not excessively, against the mating flange. At the same time, the collar surrounds the edge web radially on the outside at least over part of its circumference, so that the edge web in the clamped state cannot deflect there in the direction of the flange plane.
For the purpose of an oil-tight connection between the base body and the tub, the base body and the tub preferably have cooperating, against each other axially or radially sealing sealing surfaces. Advantageously, there is constructive freedom to use the most suitable type of sealing surface for the particular application, since both types of sealing surfaces allow the above-described joining of the base body and trough with simultaneous engagement of the collar and edge web.
In particular for reasons of quick and easy mounting of the separator on the associated internal combustion engine, the invention further proposes that several bores for clamping screws for attaching the separator to the counter flange are made in the collar and that imaginary axial extensions of the bores in the case of the tub attached to the base body Direction away from the flange run outside the pan. The introduction of the clamping screws into the bores and the application of screwing tools is therefore not hindered by the tub.
To ensure an operationally reliable and permanent tightness of the flange connection between the separator and the internal combustion engine, the invention further proposes that the collar is designed as a three-dimensional structure with stiffening webs running in different directions. The design of the collar specified here makes it particularly stiff and therefore mechanically highly resilient and a distortion of the collar leading to leaks in the flange connection is thus reliably avoided.
As already mentioned above, the base body and the tub are individual parts that can be produced separately, which offers the advantageous possibility of being able to produce each component from its own, functionally appropriate material. In this regard, for reasons of cost and weight, it is preferably provided that the base body is made of metal and the tub is made of plastic. The base body can thus absorb higher mechanical loads that result in particular from being braced against the counter flange. The tub is not subject to these mechanical loads, so that it can be manufactured from the less stable, but advantageously lighter and more cost-effective plastic without any disadvantages. At the same time, the material plastic offers the advantage that the tub has a certain degree of mobility, which is useful to compensate for dimensional tolerances when connecting the tub to the base body on the one hand and to the counter flange on the other.
The base body is particularly preferably a die-cast part made of light metal, in particular aluminum. In this embodiment, the base body can on the one hand be mechanically loadable and on the other hand nevertheless has a relatively low weight and can also be produced inexpensively as a mass part.
The tub is particularly preferably an injection-molded part made of thermoplastic, in particular polyamide (PA). This material is well suited for the mechanical and thermal loads that occur and has a low weight and low material costs. Here, too, inexpensive manufacture of the tub as a mass part is possible.
