Abstract
Description
Technisches GebietTechnical area
The invention relates to a method and a light generation arrangement for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents, with an operating device that operates the at least one semiconductor light source with a temporally variable current.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
The invention is based on a light-generating arrangement and a method for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents according to the preamble of the independent claims.
A light generating device for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents is e.g. Example, a projection device, in which produce a plurality of differently colored semiconductor light sources such as light emitting diodes a colored image that can be projected on a screen or the like. In modern systems, the differently colored semiconductor light sources are driven with different currents, so that they emit a predetermined amount of light. As a result, the color fringes produced by the projection technique are reduced in the case of strong contrast changes in the image. The image is constructed sequentially from the three basic colors red, green and blue, whereby the overall impression is created by additive color mixing of the three primary colors. The image is built up either by an LCD or a micromirror array. Video electronics actuate the LCD or micromirror array and output corresponding light setpoint signals, so-called strobe signals, for each color to an operating device, which then processes them. The signals are transmitted by the video electronics as digital values, and then converted in the operating device in a digital / analog converter into an analog current value. Here, there is the problem that the delay time between the light reference signal and the conversion into the current through the semiconductor light source, especially when switching from small to large currents due to the circuit can differ by up to 100 microseconds. This is particularly pertinent when a semiconductor light source is turned off, just because another color is active, and in the next image is just this color strongly represented, so the semiconductor light source must be operated with a high current. Then it takes a long time to adjust to the new nominal current, which can not be compensated by the video electronics. This in turn leads to a corruption in the color representation.

It is an object of the invention with respect to the method to provide a method for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents with an operating device that operates the at least one semiconductor light source with a time-varying current, with which an improved color representation is achieved. It is a further object of the invention with respect to the light generation arrangement to provide a light generation arrangement for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents with an operating device that operates the at least one semiconductor light source with a temporally variable current, which has an improved color representation.
Darstellung der ErfindungPresentation of the invention
The solution of the object with respect to the method according to the invention is carried out with a method for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents, with an operating device that operates the at least one semiconductor light source with a time-varying current, wherein the at least one semiconductor light source, if no light reference signal of a Control unit for this semiconductor light source is applied to the dark keys operated by the operating device with a current through the at least one semiconductor light source, which is substantially equal to a predetermined minimum value. This allows the light emitting diode and its driver to react more quickly, significantly improving color reproduction. The predetermined minimum value is preferably determined by a repeated calibration. As a result, an optimal adjustment of the operation of the semiconductor light source is always ensured.
- a) operate the semiconductor light source by the operating device with a current which essentially corresponds to zero,
- b) measuring at least one measured variable of each semiconductor light source by means of a measuring unit present in the operating device and buffering the at least one measured variable in a memory of the operating device,
- c) checking whether a light actual value resulting from this at least one measured variable is smaller than a predetermined light black value,
- d1) if so, increasing the current through the semiconductor light source and repeating steps a-c
- d2) if no, save a Current through the semiconductor light source corresponding size as a predetermined minimum value in one of the semiconductor light source associated memory cell of the operating device, wherein the current corresponding to the current through the semiconductor light source size so composed: size, which corresponds to the current through the semiconductor light source = last current through the semiconductor light source - safety margin. By this method, the semiconductor light sources are optimally calibrated to a predetermined light black level, which they can adhere to at each operating point.
The at least one measured variable associated with the semiconductor light source is preferably a light actual value. This is easy to measure with a light sensor.
However, the at least one measured variable assigned to the semiconductor light source can also be the forward voltage of the semiconductor light source. This is to be measured without additional sensor, since this measure is normally known in the driver circuit.
If a precise adjustment is necessary, both measured variables of the semiconductor light source can also be measured and a corresponding light black value can be assigned.
In a normal projection system, a plurality of semiconductor light sources are usually provided, and at least one semiconductor light source is assigned one color channel each, the method then being carried out successively for a plurality of color channels. Preferably, the method is repeated at predetermined time intervals in order to achieve a continuous calibration of the predetermined minimum value. As a result, all the semiconductor light sources of the light generation arrangement are always kept optimally calibrated. The solution of the object with respect to the light generation arrangement is carried out with a light generation arrangement for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents, with an operating device that operates the at least one semiconductor light source with a temporally variable current, characterized in that the operating device, the at least one semiconductor light source to the dark keys with a current through which at least one semiconductor light source operates, which is substantially equal to a predetermined minimum value, when no light setpoint signal of a control unit for this semiconductor light source is applied. As a result of this measure, the semiconductor light source is not completely switched off and, as it were, 'pre-stressed' with its driver circuit, whereby a current regulation that is about 20% to 30% faster is achieved. The operating device of the light-generating arrangement executes the method described above at predetermined intervals in order to calibrate a color black value of the at least one semiconductor light source. The at least one semiconductor light source is preferably a light-emitting diode. This can be carried out in organic or inorganic construction. The operating device preferably has a microcontroller or programmable logic module that executes the method described above. Thus, the process is primarily available as software, and costs no or only a few additional components. This may be a photosensitive semiconductor such as a photodiode or a phototransistor, via which the light measuring unit can measure the actual light value of the light-emitting diodes. However, one or more semiconductor light sources which are currently not in operation are particularly preferably used as the light-measuring element. This offers the advantage of no additional components and lines, so that the light generation arrangement can be produced more cheaply.
Further advantageous developments and refinements of the light generation arrangement according to the invention and of the method according to the invention for operating at least one semiconductor light source for displaying pictorial contents result from further dependent claims and from the following description.
