Description
The invention relates to a method for detecting gas concentrations by multi-channel selective absorption of electromagnetic radiation in the infrared spectral range according to the preamble of
B. a gas meter simultaneously detected gases simultaneously detected in order to reliably detect different states or events in the environment of such a gas meter. As a rule, at least two different gas sensors are then used in these gas measuring devices, which react differently to the respective states or events. By a connected evaluation logic logical connections of the measured values of the gas sensors are then possible, which provide clear results in terms of the presence of the respective gas concentrations of the gases to be detected. However, the use of multiple gas sensors often leads to problems resulting from the energy supply (increased power consumption) and the additional space requirement (construction volume) of the gas sensors. Furthermore, the cost of such a solution increases proportionally with the number of gas sensors.

The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a method and a device suitable for carrying out the method for detecting gas concentrations, in which, on the one hand, the concentration of a first gas can be detected over a long period of time and, on the other hand, ideally without equipment-related additional expenditure, the occurrence of a further gas can be detected safely.
The solution of the object of the invention results in terms of the method of the characterizing features of
The invention according to
In a first advantageous embodiment, a gas which is usually always present in the surroundings of the sensor device and is to be detected continuously, preferably carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), can be monitored as the first gas. Carbon dioxide is an important indicator gas in ventilation technology, with which conclusions can be drawn on the air quality. The limit value for a good air quality is given by the so-called Pettenkofer number corresponding to a carbon dioxide concentration of 1000 ppm (parts per million). The carbon dioxide content in living spaces is never constant and varies between 370 ppm (natural mean) and 5000 ppm, depending on the number of people and the ventilation rate. With a CO 2 sensor, the home ventilation can thus be controlled on demand, so that a continuous, pleasant air quality is achieved. This prevents over-ventilation and saves heating energy. In an ongoing monitoring z. As the air in a living room as the first gas can therefore be achieved with the method according to the invention, a substantial improvement in air quality, if acted upon in accordance with a ventilation device.
Furthermore, it is conceivable that the gas under normal circumstances is not monitored in the surroundings of the sensor device, preferably for inadmissible or undesired gas concentrations. In particular, if a gas which is harmful or is undesirable in the environment of the sensor device is monitored as a gas which is not normally present in the surroundings of the sensor device, it can be ensured that gas escaping inappropriately, for example a combustible or non-combustible gas, occurs in residential buildings, recreational vehicles and similar environments explosive gas, preferably natural gas or liquefied gas, is reliably detected and appropriate countermeasures can be initiated and / or the persons located in the region of the exit of this gas can be warned in time. Such improperly leaking gases that are brought into the environment of the sensor device, for example by leaks or deliberate introduction, can otherwise lead to inflammable or explosive mixtures at a corresponding unnoticed enrichment at the exit point, which can cause serious damage or personal injury. Therefore, the timely detection of such concentrations, which according to the method according to the invention can take place in parallel with the ongoing monitoring of a rather harmless gas, such as carbon dioxide, is of great importance.
In a further embodiment, it is conceivable that in the event of a measurable concentration of the second gas for the ongoing measurement of the first gas, a mean value from previous measurements on the filter element for the second gas is further used as a reference. Since, with a change in the concentration of the second gas, the reference channel for the measurement of the first gas changes, the monitoring of the first gas would be difficult during the presence of the second gas and possibly even harmful effects in the control of the second gas Concentration of the first gas cause. In order not to let such unclear measuring conditions occur, during the phase of occurrence of the second gas, a mean value from older measurements of the second gas is used as a temporary value for calculating the reference channel, such as the reference of the measurement of the second gas by averaging over a longer period is formed.
- with I MB
- = measured radiation intensity for the first gas
- and I MA
- = measured radiation intensity for the second gas
When the modulation value of the first gas changes, it is possible to act on existing ventilation systems, for example, so that the concentration of the first gas is returned to the desired setpoint values.
- and I MA
- = measured radiation intensity for the second gas
- and MW
- = Average of the measured radiation intensity
A change in this modulation value is then evaluated as a criterion for the occurrence of the second gas and the triggering of the measures described above.
In another technical embodiment of the invention, it is also conceivable that a respective different, under normal circumstances not in the vicinity of the sensor device gas is monitored as the first and second gas, the measured values of the first gas as a reference for the measurement of the second gas and vice versa. So z. B. known that about ATMs or other appropriate safekeeping containers by introducing acetylene (welding gas) or propane / butane (liquefied petroleum gas) are brought to explode, so as to get to the cash located in the machine. The ATM manufacturers are therefore trying to take appropriate protective measures that prevent an explosion. Now, if the method is adapted such that the first gas z. B. acetylene and as a second gas propane / butane or a mixture thereof according to the invention is detected, so in the normal operating state of the ATM neither acetylene nor propane / butane in the vicinity of the ATM will be present. However, this means that both the first channel of the sensor device and the second channel of the sensor device normally do not give any measured values of the respective gases and can therefore serve mutually as unchangeable reference channel for the respective other measurement. Only when one of these gases in the vicinity of the ATM, the measuring arrangement is detuned so that there is a deviation of the respective measuring channel, which then z. B. trigger alarm or can operate directly in the ATM located protective devices.
For this purpose, it is advantageous that, in accordance with the type of change in the measured concentration of the first or second gas, a statement as to which of the two gases occurs in the vicinity of the sensor device becomes possible. Due to the positive or negative detuning of the respective measuring channel not only the presence of dangerous for the ATM gases can be determined, but also which gases is being introduced into the ATM and depending on the nature of the gas advantageously also different countermeasures are initiated.
- with I M1
- = measured radiation intensity for the first gas
- and I M2
- = measured radiation intensity for the second gas
If, for example, acetylene is introduced into the ATM, the radiation intensity I M1 decreases, but I M2 remains constant and the modulation value decreases. On the other hand, the introduction of propane / butane decreases the radiation intensity I M2 , while I M1 remains constant and the modulation value increases. Thus, a statement about the respective introduced gas is possible.
Again, it is conceivable that the reference of the measurement of the first or second gas formed by averaging over a longer period of time and is used for the modulation value.
The invention further relates to a sensor device for detecting gas concentrations by multi-channel selective absorption of electromagnetic radiation in the infrared spectral range, comprising at least one radiation source, at least two filter elements for spectral filtering of the radiation source and radiation detectors for collecting the filtered radiation of the radiation source for performing the The method of
A particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention is shown in the drawing.

- with I M1
- = Radiation intensity for natural gas / LPG
- and I M2
- = Radiation intensity for carbon dioxide
In
In
In another embodiment, it is also possible with the method according to the invention to be able to differentiate between different gas components in the ambient air. A conceivable application for this modified method is the fight against crime. So z. B. known that ATMs are brought by the introduction of acetylene (welding gas) or propane / butane (LPG) to explode, so as to get to the money in the machine. The ATM manufacturers are therefore trying to take appropriate protective measures that prevent an explosion. With a measurement by the method according to the invention, this application can be safely solved.
- with I M1
- = Radiation intensity for acetylene
- and I M2
- = Radiation intensity for propane / butane
Since in this application also can not be assumed that a basic load of the ambient air with the gases to be detected, here is the measuring wavelength of acetylene as the reference wavelength for propane / butane and vice versa. Thus, the modulation value will normally indicate 0. In case of danger, d. H. after introduction of welding gas or liquid gas, one of the two radiation intensities will change. This results in a positive or negative excursion of the modulation value according to
In addition to the measurement of the gas concentration, the gas type (acetylene or propane / butane) can thus also be determined. Since acetylene and propane / butane have different explosion limits (UEG = lower explosion limit), this is of significant importance. This makes it possible to initiate targeted countermeasures, based on the different explosion limits, to avoid an explosion.
The calculation basis of the modulation values can be additionally improved by averaging the respective reference.
