Description

Input and/or control system for a household appliance, method for operating a household appliance and/or providing an input to a household appliance, and household appliance
The present invention relates to an input and/or control system for a household appliance, in particular for a kitchen appliance, more particularly for a cooking appliance, preferably for a cooking hob, more preferably for an induction cooking hob. Further, the present invention relates to a method for operating a household appliance and/or for providing an input to a household appliance. The invention also relates to a household appliance.
Currently, home appliances are operated by a user in a field mode, i.e. the user provides his input using a user control unit and an interface arranged at a control panel of the home appliance. Information or control commands are usually entered manually, however, at the same time, more and more home appliances coming into the market are equipped with hands-free input means, in particular using voice control or other types of remote control systems. On external devices with a user interface (for example on a smart phone or tablet computer), different external commands and/or preset information are an attractive possibility to control the functions and operating programs of such appliances (in particular by preset parameters, such as timer values or clock functions) or to control or set the main functions. For example, a desired treatment and/or cooking temperature may be set, or a particular program, such as a complex cooking program, may be selected or programmed.
However, remote control of many household appliances is often not allowed due to legal safety requirements. In particular, remote control of the cooking hob is not allowed, especially when the cooking hob is activated out of line of sight. One reason for this limitation is that currently available hands-free and/or remote control systems are characterized by the disadvantage of having the possibility to misinterpret the voice input provided. Further, remote setting of parameters (in particular via the internet, a wireless local area network or a near field communication system) may be unintentional or unwanted and not excluded by misuse. In case the cooking hob is activated, serious damage may be caused if the cooking hob is out of control and no user intervention is possible.
The remote device may be allowed to control the home appliance if the distance between the user and the home appliance is to be controlled in a way that enables the user to intervene or manually control the home appliance.
The object of the present invention is to propose an input and/or control system for a household appliance and/or to propose a method for operating a household appliance and/or for providing an input to a household appliance and/or to propose a household appliance in such a way that a command independent of its origin is only processed or executed when a reliable control of the household appliance is ensured.
With respect to the input and/or control system, this object is achieved by the features of the present invention. With respect to the method, this object is achieved by the features of the present invention. With respect to the household appliance, this object is achieved by the features of the present invention.
According to the present invention, there is provided an input and/or control system for a household appliance, the input and/or control system comprising a first input device and a second input device. The household appliance may be a kitchen appliance, in particular a cooking appliance, preferably a cooking hob and more preferably an induction cooking hob. The first input means operates as command receiving means of the household appliance and is adapted to provide at least one information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input, in particular an operating condition control input. The second input means operates as a confirmation input means and is adapted to provide a confirmation input for the input and/or control system or the household appliance to accept and/or execute the at least one information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input. Preferably, the input and/or control system should be made to accept and/or perform more than one information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input. The input and/or control system may be designed to accept and/or process and/or execute information inputs and/or function control inputs and/or condition control inputs provided after or at least simultaneously with the validation input.
In this sense, the term "providing" may be interpreted as an action of the user, and the providing input may be an action of the user inputting any kind of information into the input and/or control system or into the control unit of the household appliance. Another explanation of "providing" (in particular in relation to confirmation input) may be an automatic behavior of the system, in particular triggered by any predefined condition.
The main idea of the invention is that the input and/or control system of the household appliance is designed such that: the user's data and/or information inputs and commands are processed only if not only at least one information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input is provided, but also the household appliance and/or the input and/or control system receives a confirmation signal for confirming that the user is present and/or that the user can intervene.
The confirmation input may be a local input, i.e. the user providing the confirmation input stands near or in the vicinity of the home appliance while providing the confirmation input. In this case and preferably, in the case where a means for recognizing the close-range position of the user is provided, it can be considered that the reaction time is short when necessary.
In an embodiment, the second input means is a button, which may be an on and/or off button, or a touch element, in particular a touch key or a touch sensitive element or a touch sensitive area. The touch element may be located on or may be part of a TFT display. Preferably, the button or touch element is located on a user interface of the household appliance.
Alternatively, the second input means may be near field communication means, such as an infrared device, an ultrasonic device or a bluetooth remote control device, which may trigger a confirmation input when operated separately by the user.
A further embodiment provides that the confirmation input or the confirmation triggering mechanism is arranged in and/or monitors the installation location (in particular the installation room) of the household appliance, and that the confirmation input can be performed or triggered by an action of the user switching on the household appliance.
The confirmation input means or confirmation triggering mechanism may be a camera and/or microphone, vibration sensor, infrared sensor and/or light beam located in or on or near the household appliance and monitoring the environment or surroundings of the household appliance, and as such, the confirmation input may be performed or triggered by an action of the user switching on the household appliance.
The invention may in particular be designed for a household appliance as a cooking hob, wherein the confirmation input means or the confirmation triggering mechanism is arranged at the appliance, in particular at another household appliance which may be an oven or an exhaust hood.
Another option for the second input means may be a voice control structure, in particular a digital or virtual assistant, which is positioned in the vicinity of the household appliance. In this configuration, it can send a position identification signal to the household appliance, in particular in the case of individual activation by the user.
Particular embodiments of the present invention provide a household appliance and/or an input and/or control system comprising physical keys, in particular buttons or touch elements, and/or comprising a signal provider. Only when the physical key is pressed and/or activated and/or when the signal provider provides an enabling signal, the current to and/or the voltage applied at the electrical load or device (which may be a heating element or a control unit) is enabled.
The provided confirmation input or signal may be a one-time input. In this case the user provides a confirmation input or signal only once and all simultaneous or consecutive information inputs and/or function control inputs and/or condition control inputs have been or are to be processed.
In a preferred embodiment, the first input means and the second input means are connected to or act on relays and/or comparators and/or logic elements, in particular AND elements, which are physically implemented in the input and/or control system or the control unit and/or the control circuitry of the household appliance.
The first input device may be a parameter input device and/or a control command device, and it may be a remote control device. Notably, the system may be or include a voice operated and/or gesture operated input or control device.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, the first input means is a device connected to a household appliance or a non-coupled or stand alone device. In particular, the first input device is connected to the control unit of the household appliance via the local area network connection device or via the WIFI connection device. The first input means may be or may be connected to a digital or virtual assistant device, such as "Google Home" (trademark, registered by Google LLC, available in many countries), "ALEXA" (trademark, registered by amazon technology company, available in many countries), or "SIRI" (trademark, registered by apple company, available in many countries), etc.
Additionally or alternatively, the first input means may be or may comprise a component or a device or a circuit integrated in the household appliance.
The input and/or control system comprises in particular a first and a second first input device, and a first and a second input device. In this particular embodiment, the first input means operates as a local command receiving means of the household appliance and is adapted to provide at least one locally provided information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input, which may be an operating condition control input, and the second first input means is a button or key for switching on the household appliance or a button or key which may be activated directly after switching on the household appliance. Further, this particular embodiment is also designed for the first and second input means to operate as remote command receiving means of the household appliance, i.e. it is adapted to provide at least one remotely provided information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input, which may be an operating condition control input. Thus and in addition, the second input means operates as a confirmation input means and is adapted to provide a confirmation input for the input and/or control system or the household appliance to accept and/or execute the at least one remotely provided information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input.
According to a further aspect of the invention, a method for operating a household appliance and/or for providing an input to a household appliance is provided, wherein at least one information input and/or a function control input and/or a condition control input received from a user of the household appliance is processed, in particular accepted and/or executed, by the household appliance or an input and/or a control system of the household appliance only after receipt of a confirmation signal or input and/or on the premise of this. The confirmation signal or input may be a one-time input, i.e. the user provides the confirmation signal only once and all simultaneous or consecutive information inputs and/or function control inputs and/or condition control inputs have been processed or are to be processed. In particular, the confirmation input is received before or at the latest simultaneously with a first one of the at least one information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input.
The method may be designed such that the confirmation input is received from a user of the household appliance, who is located in the vicinity of the household appliance while providing the confirmation input. As described above, a corresponding identification means or method may be provided to identify or identify the location or position where the user is located.
In a specific input and/or control system or in a specific method, the input operation is confirmed and/or at least one, preferably more than one, information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input is controlled.
In particular, the confirmation input operation and/or control continues for a predefined or predefinable period of time. Once this period of time expires, the user will need to provide a confirmation signal or input again, otherwise the input and/or control system and/or the household appliance will no longer process the continuous information input and/or function control input and/or condition control input. Additionally or alternatively, the confirmation input may be manipulated and/or controlled until further user action is provided. The further user action may be to switch off the household appliance.
In order to increase the safety of the control of the household appliance and in order to provide feedback to the user, the method may comprise an information step of providing communication of the received confirmation input or signal via the input and/or control system and/or via a user interface of the household appliance after receiving the confirmation input or signal. The communication may be performed by displaying the received acknowledgement signal or input on a display of the user interface or by speech outputting the received acknowledgement signal or input through a speaker. The speech output may simply be a beep or similar acoustic signal.
The confirmation signal or input may be activated, in particular actively activated, by the user, or alternatively, the confirmation signal or input may be triggered directly by the actual presence of the user in the vicinity of the household appliance only, for example immediately after the user has switched on the household appliance.
The confirmation input device may be arranged or designed in such a way that only an authorized user can press or activate the device. Additionally or alternatively, the confirmation signal or input may be a direct (in particular physical) operation of a device or appliance by a user, the device or appliance being arranged in the vicinity of the household appliance. Another option for the confirmation input or signal may be a presence detection signal identifying the presence of a user, in particular an authorized user, in the vicinity of the household appliance. Such presence detection and indication may be achieved by infrared signals, camera signals, light sensor signals, light beam signals and/or acoustic signals, and the presence detection method steps may be performed directly after an action of the user switching on the household appliance.
The novel and inventive features of the present invention are set forth in the appended claims.
The invention will be described in further detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
fig. 1 shows a schematic view of an input and/or control system for a household appliance according to a preferred embodiment of the invention;
fig. 2 shows a schematic perspective view of a cooking structure according to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the cooking structure comprising a cooking hob and an exhaust hood and a remote control device; and
fig. 3 shows a schematic diagram of an input and/or control system of a structure modified on the embodiment of fig. 2.
Fig. 1 shows a schematic diagram of an input/and/or control system for a household appliance HA according to a first preferred embodiment of the invention.
The input and/or control system comprises an acoustic sensor device 10, a speech recognition device 12 and a user recognition device 14 comprising the acoustic sensor device 10 and the speech recognition device 12. For example, the acoustic sensor apparatus 10 is a microphone. Another sensor type may be used instead of the acoustic sensor 10 to detect the presence of a user, for example, using an infrared sensor or a camera.
Further, the input and/or control system may include an audio output device, such as a speaker, for communicating with the user. The input and/or control system further comprises a control unit (indicated by double arrow in fig. 1) of the household appliance HA.
A voice-controlled communication device 16 is provided and is adapted to receive sound input from a user and to perform acoustic output to the user. Both the voice-controlled communication device 16 and the home appliance HA are capable of communicating with the internet 18, in particular they are capable of communicating with each other via the internet 18. Preferably, the input and/or control system or any part thereof is part of a control unit of the household appliance HA, such as an integrated part.
An input and/or control system is provided to activate the connection of the home appliance HA to the voice-controlled communication device 16 and/or the internet 18. "activation" in this sense means that in particular an input (i.e. a control command or other type of information or data provision) is received or processed by the household appliance HA only when permitted by the input and/or the control system.
The speech recognition device 12 and/or the user recognition device 14 are configured to sense the presence of a user, in particular the presence of an authorized user. In particular, the speech recognition device 12 and/or the user recognition device 14 are configured such that the presence of a person in the vicinity of the home appliance DA is detected (i.e. whatever user or person is) and/or specified (i.e. only authorized user).
Further, the acoustic sensor apparatus 10 is capable of detecting and/or receiving a user-generated input signal, such as a user's voice, another audio signal from the user, or noise generated by the user. For example, the acoustic sensor device 10, the speech recognition device 12, and/or the user recognition device 14 may be or include decibel sensors.
The user identification device 14 is configured to compare parameters (e.g., frequency, amplitude, frequency pattern, and/or amplitude pattern) of the user-generated input signal to a predetermined threshold. The predetermined threshold is selected such that it is assigned to or reflects a specific amplitude of a specific noise of the user, e.g. the loudness of speech. For proper operation, the assignment will have to be trained or corrected when the home appliance HA is implemented. Alternatively, the manufacturer of the home appliance HA may set it up before delivery to the user.
For example, the input and/or control system can identify whether a person in proximity to the sensor is speaking aloud. The acoustic sensor apparatus 10 may also be replaced with another type of presence detection sensor, in particular a near field sensor, a touch sensitive sensor, an optical sensor, a camera and/or a vibration sensor.
The input and/or control system is configured such that communication of the voice-controlled communication device 16 with the home appliance HA is only possible when a user inputs a specific input signal recognized by the user recognition device 14. For example, the user identification device 14 detects whether the user is speaking at a particular loudness, or whether the user outputs a sequence of particular words, signals, taps, etc.
User detection or identification may be permanently activated. However, the present embodiment is designed such that a one-time confirmation input or signal is provided directly to the input and/or control system after the user HAs switched on the home appliance HA. In this case, the user is located beside the home appliance HA because an ON/OFF (ON/OFF) switch is positioned ON the user interface of the home appliance HA. After receiving this confirmation input, the user may be considered to be present and potentially intervene in case of uncontrolled operation of the home appliance HA, and enable the user to provide commands and/or inputs to the home appliance HA via the voice-controlled communication device 16 and the internet 18.
Fig. 2 shows an input/and/or control system for a household appliance HA according to a second preferred embodiment of the invention. The figure shows a schematic perspective view of a cooking structure comprising a cooking hob 21 and an exhaust hood 23. The cooking hob 21 comprises a cooking area with four cooking zones 25 and an operator control panel comprising a user interface 27. The user interface 27 is provided with operation buttons 29 and a display unit 31. Inside the operator control panel, a microcontroller 33 is arranged for controlling the operation of the cooking hob 21. The user interface 27 is internally connected to the microcontroller 33 for data exchange between the two components.
The exhaust hood 23 is arranged above the cooking hob 21 by completely covering the cooking area of the cooking hob 21 with its suction area 35. Steam and/or oil smoke generated by the cooking process is sucked by an exhaust fan (not shown) disposed in the exhaust hood 23 and discharged from the kitchen in which the cooking structure is installed to the environment through the exhaust duct 37. The hood operation button 39 is located on the front surface of the exhaust hood 23 for the user to operate.
The operation of the cooking hob 21 can be performed in various ways. According to a first mode of operation, a conventional direct operation may be achieved by a user manipulating a hob operation button 29 arranged on the user interface 27 in order to set or modify the power level of the respective cooking zone 25. In a similar manner, the exhaust hood 23 may also be operated directly by a user manipulating the hood operating button 39 in a conventional manner to control the speed of the exhaust fan.
In another manner of operation, both the cooking hob 21 and the exhaust hood 23 can be operated by a user using the remote control device 41. Via a first transmission path 43 (shown in fig. 2 only for connection with the cooking hob 21), the remote control device 41 transmits an information signal to the cooking hob 21 or the exhaust hood 23. The first transmission path 43 may be a Wi-Fi connection or a near field connection. The remote control device 41 comprises a switch button (not explicitly shown) for selecting the control of the cooking hob 21 or the control of the exhaust hood 23 by the remote control device 41. The user inputs commands for controlling the cooking hob 21 or the exhaust hood 23 through general operation buttons 29' arranged on the remote control device 41.
Although the exhaust hood 23 may be controlled via the remote control device 41 without any restrictions, according to safety standards, the operation of the cooking hob 21 is only allowed in case of a user of the cooking hob 21 at a relatively short distance from the cooking hob 21, so as to be able to intervene in the field in case of any unexpected or dangerous conditions resulting from the operation of the cooking hob.
Therefore, even if the microcontroller 33 receives a control command transmitted via the first transmission path 43 and forwarded through the user interface 27, the microcontroller 33 does not easily process the received control command. Instead, the microcontroller 33 only processes the command if a confirmation input or signal has been received indicating that the user is present at a relatively short distance from the cooking hob 21.
Said confirmation signal indicating the presence of the user is provided by a microphone 45 also arranged on the front side of the exhaust hood 23. The microphone 45 is connected to the user interface 27 of the cooking hob 21 by a second transmission path 47, which may be an infrared signal connection. The microphone 45 may be designed as a directional microphone in order to filter out or reduce operation noise originating from the operation of the exhaust fan or its driving motor.
The microphone 45 is adapted to receive any sound or noise generated by a user at a relatively short distance from the cooking hob 21. Such sound or noise may be human voice, finger cut sound, or the like. The sound or noise may also be generated by a user while the kitchen is in operation, particularly when touching certain devices, such as colliding with a pot 49 placed on the cooking zone 25 of the cooking hob 21, toggling a lid 51 of the pot 49, operating a tap (not shown) in the kitchen, etc.
Fig. 3 shows another embodiment of the invention, modified with respect to the structure as illustrated in fig. 2 and described above. According to the embodiment of fig. 1, a voice-controlled communication device 16 is provided and is adapted to receive sound input from a user and to perform acoustic output to the user. Both the voice-controlled communication device 16 and the cooking hob 21 are capable of communicating with the internet 18, in particular they are capable of communicating with each other via the internet 18.
Also in this embodiment, an input and/or control system is provided to activate the connection of the cooking hob 21 with the voice controlled communication device 16 and/or the internet 18. But in contrast to the solution of fig. 1, the acoustic sensor device 10, the speech recognition device 12 and the user recognition device 14 do not receive an acknowledgement input or signal. Instead, the proximity and/or presence of the user is identified by the system through near field communication means, in particular infrared signals or bluetooth signals sent via the remote control device 41, which confirmation input or signal after having been received by the cooking hob 21 and/or its user interface 27 enables the user to provide commands and/or information or data input via the voice control communication device 16 and/or to the internet 18. Alternatively, the confirmation input may also be implemented by the user directly switching on the cooking hob 21 using the on/off switch 29 ". In this case, it is evident that the user is located in close proximity to the cooking hob 21 and can be expected to be present and intervene immediately if necessary, which complies with legal safety requirements.
