Background
Smart phones, tablet computers and other handheld devices have gained popularity today. Various applications, functions and services have been developed for these devices. For example, push notifications are one of the functions widely used in handheld devices. The handheld device may subscribe to the facilitator for some topic. Then, when a triggering event related to the subscribed topic occurs, the facilitator will transmit a push message to the handheld device so the handheld device can display a notification according to the push message. The trigger event is not only initiated by the service provider but also by the handheld device or other device. For example, the handset may activate a bluetooth function to receive a broadcast message with a small data size from a must-be-ok (iBeacon) transmitter, and the handset may retrieve more information from the service provider through a content request according to the broadcast message. However, the handheld device must install the corresponding application software before a specific push notification can be received. This is inconvenient for some users who are unfamiliar with the operation of the handset. In addition, for a person who sets up a must-be-sure transmitter to broadcast a message, the broadcast message cannot be received by all the handheld devices, and the must-be-sure transmitter may miss some of the handheld devices. Thus, the conventional message transmission manner can be improved.

The transmission device 110 may be a must-ok transmitter, a bluetooth transmitter, a wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) transmitter, an Infrared Radiation (IR) transmitter, a remote range (LoRa) transmitter, a near-field communication (NFC) tag, or a transmitter supporting other communication technologies.
The receiving device 130 may be a smart phone, a tablet computer, a notebook computer, a handheld game console, a portable device, a smart Television (TV), a smart appliance, and the like. Fig. 2 is a block diagram illustrating a receiving apparatus in accordance with one of the exemplary embodiments of the present invention. Referring to fig. 2, the receiving apparatus 130 includes at least a receiver 131, a presentation device 133, and a processor 135.
Receiver 131 may be a bluetooth receiver, a Wi-Fi receiver, an IR receiver, a LoRa receiver, an NFC receiver, or a receiver supporting other communication technologies. It should be noted that the communication technology used by receiver 131 will be compatible with transmitting device 110 to receive and analyze messages from transmitting device 110.
The presentation device 133 may be a display (e.g., a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), a Light Emitting Diode (LED), an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED), or other type of display), a speaker, or other devices capable of presenting image data, audio data, and/or video data.
The processor 135 is coupled to the receiver 131 and the presentation device 133. The processor 135 may be implemented using a programmable unit such as a Central Processing Unit (CPU), a microprocessor, a microcontroller, a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) chip, a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), or the like. The functions of the processor 135 may also be implemented by a separate electronic device or Integrated Circuit (IC), and the operations of the processor 135 may also be implemented by software. The processor 135 is programmed to perform the functions or steps that will be set forth below.
The database 150 may reside in internal memory (e.g., random-access memory (RAM), fixed or removable, read-only memory (ROM), any form of flash memory, etc.), resident in a server, workstation, desktop or notebook computer. Alternatively, all/some of the features or functions of the database 150 may reside in the receiving device 130. It should be noted that, depending on the type of database 150, the receiving device 130 may communicate with the database 150 through a corresponding transmission interface (e.g., Universal Serial Bus (USB), memory bus, Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI), etc.) or communication transceiver (e.g., supporting Wi-Fi, bluetooth, etc.).
In order to further understand the operation process of the embodiment of the present invention, several embodiments are provided below to describe the operation of the message transmission system 1 in the embodiment of the present invention in detail.
Fig. 3 is a flow chart of a receiving method according to one of the exemplary embodiments of the invention. Referring to fig. 3, the receiving method of this embodiment is suitable for use in the message transmission system shown in fig. 1 and the receiving device shown in fig. 2. However, the process of the receiving method can be adjusted according to actual needs and is therefore not limited to the following steps.
The transmission apparatus 110 transmits the broadcast message (step S310). The broadcast message may include one or more identification codes. In this embodiment, the broadcast message is not intended for a particular receiving device 130, and any particular receiving device 130 with a compatible receiver 131 may receive the broadcast message. It should be noted that transmitting device 110 may transmit one broadcast message per second, may transmit more broadcast messages per second, may transmit one broadcast message per second, or may transmit each broadcast message in a desired temporal pattern. In some embodiments, the broadcast message may also include signal strength, battery information, region, and the like.
Additionally, there may be multiple transport mechanisms. In one embodiment, referring to fig. 4A, the Identification (ID) code of each transmission by the transmitting device 110 will be the same. The transmitting device 110 broadcasts an Identification (ID) code of 1 every 0.1 seconds. However, in another embodiment, referring to fig. 4B, multiple ID codes will be transmitted. The transmitting device 110 first broadcasts the ID code 1, then the ID code 2, and so on. In yet another embodiment, one broadcast message may contain multiple different ID codes. This means that the receiver 131 can receive a broadcast message containing a second identification code different from the identification code or receive a second broadcast message containing a second identification code. Thus, if more than one identification code can be broadcast by one transmitting device 110, more information can be broadcast than in the embodiment shown in fig. 4A, and thus the number of transmitting devices 110 in a single area can be greatly reduced. It should be noted that the frequency and power at which the broadcast message is transmitted may be modified based on actual requirements and embodiments of the present invention are not limited in this regard.
In response to receiver 131 of receiving device 130 receiving the broadcast message from transmitting device 110, processor 135 may analyze the broadcast message and obtain an identification code contained in the broadcast message. The processor 135 then forwards the identification code to the database 150 (step S330).
The processor or processors 135 of the database 150 will search for one or more content of interest based on the identification codes stored in the database 150. In this embodiment, the database 150 records the relationship between the identification code and the content of interest. The identification code may be a number, text, or a combination of the two. The content of interest may be a web page request (e.g., a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)/hypertext transfer security protocol (HTTPs) request), a string, a picture, video data, audio data, programming code, or a combination thereof. The relationship between the identification code and the content of interest may be recorded as a look-up table or otherwise. The processor or processors 135 of the database 150 will search the lookup table for the same received identification code and obtain the corresponding content of interest.
For example, table (1) is an example of a lookup table. If the identification code received from the transmitting device 110 is "1234", the database 150 will obtain the content of interest "Notification 1".
Watch (1)
Identification code Content of interest
1234 Notification 1
5678 Notification 2
In response to obtaining the corresponding content of interest, the database 150 may provide the obtained content of interest corresponding to the identification code but without using the application identifier (step S350). It should be noted that in the conventional must-be-sure transfer mechanism, the facilitator will feed back the content of interest with an application identifier that will cause the Operating System (OS) of the receiving device 130 to invoke the corresponding application (referred to as application, e.g., Facebook (Facebook), twitter (twitter), eBay (eBay), etc.) according to the application identifier to display the push notification by the corresponding application. The application identifier is registered in the database 150 so as to correspond to one or more identification codes. In an embodiment of the present invention, processor 135 listens for broadcast messages by way of receiver 131 through the OS in the absence of application software. This means that the OS of the receiving apparatus 130 can analyze the broadcast message and does not need to install or execute specific application software corresponding to the application software identifier registered with the identification code. On the other hand, the database 150 will prevent the application identifier from being appended to the content of interest so that the application identifier will not be fed back to the receiving device 130.
In response to the processor 135 obtaining the content of interest from the database 150, the processor 135 may present a notification through the presentation device 133 by means of the OS according to the content of interest, but not open the application software corresponding to the application software identifier, to obtain the content of interest (step S370). In this embodiment, since the receiving device 130 will not receive the application identifier, the OS of the receiving device 130 will not need to call the application corresponding to the application identifier to receive the content of interest. For example, the processor 135 may prevent opening of the application software corresponding to the application software identifier. Alternatively, the application software corresponding to the application software identifier may not be installed in the reception apparatus 130.
Additionally, the receiving apparatus 130 may receive more than one identification code from one or more transmitting apparatuses 110, and the database 150 may further record the relationship between the identification codes and the push time. For example, referring to fig. 5, the receiving apparatus 130 receives the first identification code and the second identification code from the transmitting apparatus 110 at the same time or at different times (step S510). The receiving device 130 forwards the first identification code and the second identification code to the database 150 (step S530). Table (2) is an example of a look-up table stored in database 150.
Watch (2)
Identification code Content of interest Push time
1234 Notification 1 T1
3456 Notification 2 T2
5678
The look-up table records that the first identification code "1234" corresponds to a first push time Tl, and the second identification code "3456" corresponds to a second push time T2 different from the push time Tl. It is assumed that the first push time Tl is earlier than the second push time T2. When the first push time Tl expires, the database 150 will provide the content of interest corresponding to the first identification code (step S550). Then, when the second push time T2 expires (step S560) and the content of interest corresponding to the first identification code has been provided, the database 150 will provide the content of interest corresponding to the second identification code. In other words, the receiving apparatus 130 obtains the attention content corresponding to the first identification code and the second identification code according to the first push time and the second push time, respectively. Thus, multiple content of interest may be scheduled and the receiving device 130 may receive the content of interest at different times. Even if one broadcast message includes more than one identification code or more than one identification code is received from multiple transmission apparatuses 110, the transmission of the corresponding content of interest may be scheduled, respectively.
It should be noted that in the above-described embodiment, the OS may directly analyze the broadcast message and obtain the content of interest. In another embodiment, the broadcast message may also include a service enable indication. In response to receiving the service enablement indication, processor 135 activates the push service to listen for push messages from database 150 in accordance with the service enablement indication. After the receiving apparatus 130 forwards the identification code contained in the broadcast message, the database 150 may provide a push message including the content of interest corresponding to the identification code.
Further, if the presentation device 133 is a display, the notification may be displayed on the presentation device 133 in a plurality of presentation manners. For example, fig. 6A-6E are examples illustrating different types of notifications. Referring to fig. 6A, normal notification 610 includes a thumbnail of text and pictures displayed on top of display 133. Referring to fig. 6B, picture notification 620 includes a larger picture to emphasize the content of the picture compared to the normal notification. Referring to FIG. 6C, full screen notification 630 will cover the entire screen on display 133. Referring to fig. 6D, the content of interest may also specify application software. The processor 135 may invoke the specified application to display the application notification 640 at the specified page. Referring to FIG. 6E, another application notification 650 may be displayed on top of display 133 and executed by the specified application.
It should be noted that these pictures shown in fig. 6A-6C and 6E may be replaced by video or other visually relevant data. In yet another embodiment, if the presentation device 133 is a speaker, the presentation device 133 may play advertising music, slogans, speech, or other audibly related data.
The invention also provides a non-transitory computer-readable recording medium recording a computer program to be loaded into a processor for performing the steps of the proposed method. The computer program is comprised of a plurality of program instructions, such as organization chart (organization chart), set up program instructions, table approval program instructions, set up program instructions, and deploy program instructions. After the program section has been loaded into a processor and executed by said processor, the steps of the proposed receiving method will be implemented.
In general, the exemplary embodiments described above illustrate a message transmission system, a receiving apparatus thereof, a receiving method thereof, and a computer-readable recording medium. In the embodiment of the invention, the receiving device does not need to install application software to receive the push notification, and the efficiency of the push notification can be improved. In contrast to the conventional approach, at least three steps are omitted in embodiments of the present invention, and more receiving devices may receive push notifications. In addition, more than one identification code may be provided by a transmitting device so that more content of interest may be available to a receiving device. The number of transmission apparatuses disposed in the same area can be greatly reduced as compared with the conventional manner of providing one identification code from one transmission apparatus.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made in the structure of the present invention without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention. In view of the above, it is intended that the present invention cover modifications and variations of this invention provided they come within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents.
