The invention provides a method and a system for detecting and processing idle accounts in a social network, wherein the method comprises the following steps of 1, establishing an account management library in a background server; step 2, registering an account; and step 3, judging whether the limitation is abandoned or not. The system comprises a data processing module, a table generating module, an information matching sending module, an email matching sending module, a retrieval module, a login frequency calculating module, a registration module, a login module and a friend adding module in a background server. The method and the system for detecting and processing the idle account in the social network have the advantages that the abandoned idle account can be effectively and safely eliminated, the user can be reminded of managing the account in time, the abandoned idle account can be eliminated, the user can be reminded of information, friend information corresponding to the account information can be formed into a form and sent to a mailbox filled in the user registration process, and the loss of the friend information of the user is avoided.
