Abstract

This invention relates to hoisting gypsum drywall board from floor location to a horizontal hoisting deck and thence to ceiling or wall location.

Description

- SPECIFICATIONS ~ 3 5~ ~
1. It is common in devices for hoisting drywall to ceiling or wall location to load the hoisting deck manuaily.
2. The device known as GYP-C-JACK, the drywall must be manually loaded to the hori~u,ltal position of the deck at a height of d, plUUIl. tl~y 6 feet.
In the device known as PANEL LIFT ~he drywall must be manually loaded in ~he vertical position to t~,vo hooks of the deck at a height of approximately 3 feet.
In both previous cases, this loading requires a substantial manual effort with difficulty.
3. We have found that this difficulty may be. overcome by attaching a yoke ext~" ,9 forward from the main stem of the unit and el~ loy;.lg a winch to do the loading thus the use of the DRYWALL DERRICK whose drawings are enclosed.
The DRYWALL DERRICK consists of a four legged portable standl on casters2 with a central pocket3 to acco"l",odate the main stem~ of the unit.
To this stand is attached a vertical pipe4 within a pipe5 within a pipe~. The inner pipe4 is a hoist which is liRed by a cable7 attached to the bottom ot the inner pipe4 and threading upwards through a pulley attached to the outside top of inner pipeS. Inner pipeS is also a hoist which is liRed by a cable~ attached to the bottom of inner pjpe6 and threading upwards through a pulley' which is attached to the outside top of outer pipe.
To the top of the inner pipe4 is attached a hoisting deck" whose neck fits into inner pipe'.
Below the deck" and near the top of the inner pipeS are attached two pockets'2. Also below pockets'2 and attached to the outar top of outer pipe are two more pockets'3. i30th pockets'Z
and pockets'3 are to accon.,., - the yoke'4 for separate functions - pockets'2 for wall ~p'~ L'l and pockets'3 for ceiling A,~, 5 . n.
For ceiling aFF-. 'icn of drywail, the yoke'4 is placed in pockets'l. The two sliders'5 and knuckles' are attached to the yoke'4. The knuckles'~ must be fully extended for the hoisting procedure.
Cables'7 must be threaded over pulley bar'~ and ~Ic.v~,.. d to floor position with one end attached to the hoisting board'~ while the upper end is attached to winch A.
To load drywall place the lon_'u lal edge on hooks20 of the hoisting board~ and allow the board to lean on sliders'5. Activate winch A until drywall reaches a point of over-balance at yokes'4 front edge and drywall will fall flat on hoisting deck".
Winch B is now activated to hoist drywall to its desired height to flat ceiling. A height of 14 6 may be reached.
To acco." ~ ~i F ) to a pitched ceiling, remove one of pins2' from hoisting deck" before loading.
For wall A, p'.~-~cn of drywall the yoke'4 is placed in pockets'2 while all other functions remain the same. It is adviseable however to remove the hoisting deck". It will also be necess3.~ to break the knuckles' when the unit Is nearing a wall, so as to ac co."pli~h a vertical position of the drywail. The hooks20 will reach a height of ~'6.
The unit is designed for ~ - c iSy into hallways of 36 inch width.

The unit will handle drywall to lengths of 14 feet by inserting the deck ext~:nsion .~ into pockets22.
The unit d;~. . .a. . - into 7 major cc,- - .~one. ~t~.

Claims (4)

1. The strategic placement of the yoke14 into pockets13 on the main stem of a hoisting device for drywall, allows for the employment of a winch A with which to lift the drywall from floor position to an elevated horizontal hoisting deck11.
2. The length of the yoke14 is of critcal importance in that its front edge should not extend beyond that of the leading leg of the stand1.
To increae the lifting capacity of the unit, the yoke14 could be lengthened provided the pockets13 are placed sufficiently behind the main stem of the hoisting device.
The weight of gypsum drywall to 4'x14' length does not necessitate the placement of the pockets other than on the main stem of the unit.
3. The sliders15 with knuckles16 must be of sufficient obliqueness to allow for the balanced lift of the drywall until it reaches the point of over-balance to fall on the horizontal position of the hoisting deck11.
4. The combination of pockets12, pockets13, yoke14, sliders15, and knuckles16 allow for the ease of loading any length of drywall form the standard 8' length.
