Abstract
"COMPOSIçõES, APARELHOS E MéTODOS PARA FORMAR REVESTIMENTOS DE COR SELECIONADA SOBRE UM SUBSTRATO E ARTIGOS ASSIM PRODUZIDOS". Um componente contendo cobre e um componente contendo manganês são aplicados sobre a superfície de um substrato para formar um revestimento tendo uma razão selecionada de cobre para manganês para formar uma cor desejada. Adicionalmente, cor mudando de um revestimento de multi-componentes devido a tratamento térmico subseq³ente é minimizada ou evitada determinando as espécies as mais móveis no revestimento e então colocando uma camada de gradiente de concentração de um óxido daquelas espécies móveis entre o substrato e o revestimento. Com o subseq³ente tratamento térmico, as espécies móveis na camada de gradiente se difundem dentro do substrato mais rapidamente que as espécies móveis no revestimento. A copper-containing component and a manganese-containing component are applied to the surface of a substrate to form a coating having a selected copper to manganese ratio to form a desired color. Additionally, color changing from a multi-component coating due to subsequent heat treatment is minimized or avoided by determining the most mobile species in the coating and then placing an oxide concentration gradient layer of those mobile species between the substrate and the coating. With the subsequent heat treatment, mobile species in the gradient layer diffuse within the substrate more quickly than mobile species in the coating. In addition, color change due to heating, e.g. and tempering operations, is minimized by adding calcium to a FeO ~ 2 ~ system to prevent browning of the film after heating. An apparatus for forming a graduated coating on a substrate includes a coating station positioned next to a conveyor. The coating station includes a first coating dispenser pivotally mounted on a first support and at least one exhaust hood. The first coating dispenser is positioned such that a geometry axis through the delivery end of the first coating dispenser subtends the substrate at a predetermined angle.
