Description
The present invention patent describes a hybrid battery equipped with at least one electrolysis cell connected in series with the electrochemical cells of the battery, taking advantage of the current received from a source of electrical energy, such as the alternator, for the generation of oxyhydrogen (HHO), a mixture of hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2), used as an additive to increase the efficiency of burning the main fuel (gasoline, ethanol, diesel or vehicular natural gas).
Os elétrons correm do anodo para o catodo, gerando energia elétrica.[03] A battery is an accumulator that transforms chemical energy into electrical energy and vice versa, usually through a redox reaction. The negative pole is called the anode, where oxidation occurs, while the positive pole is called the cathode, where reduction occurs. Electrons flow from the anode to the cathode, generating electrical energy.
In vehicles, the most frequent electrochemical batteries are lead-acid (PbA), which consist of six sets of electrodes in the form of plates, contained in independent vessels and connected in series, providing a potential of approximately 12V.
As a way to improve the combustion performance of fossil fuels and reduce the environmental pollution caused by their burning, several studies describe the injection of hydrogen/oxygen into the fuel mixture to improve fuel burning (gasoline, ethanol, diesel and CNG), due to its high octane rating compared to traditional fuels.
[06] O hidrogênio, quando queimado com o ar, produz menos poluentes atmosféricos que os combustíveis atuais e sua produção através de eletrólise é bastante simplificado.[06] Hydrogen, when burned with air, produces less atmospheric pollutants than current fuels and its production through electrolysis is greatly simplified.
An electrolysis cell basically comprises metallic electrodes separated from each other and immersed in an aqueous electrolyte contained in a vessel, said electrodes connected to a direct current source (DC source), so that the electrode connected to the negative terminal ( cathode) is negatively charged, while the electrode connected to the positive terminal (anode) is positively charged, with the DC source generating a potential difference applied across the electrodes. Under these conditions, the reaction of water decomposition into molecular hydrogen (H2) on the cathode and molecular oxygen (02) on the anode takes place.
[08] O documento WO2019234757 descreve um eletrolisador que gera gás HHO suficiente na menor corrente possível retirada do alternador do carro.[08] Document WO2019234757 describes an electrolyser that generates enough HHO gas at the lowest possible current drawn from the car's alternator.
[09] O documento CN204371487 descreve uma bateria eletricamente conectada ao gerador HHO para transmitir eletricidade para o gerador de HHO.[09] Document CN204371487 describes a battery electrically connected to the HHO generator to transmit electricity to the HHO generator.
[010] O documento US4030455 descreve uma célula de eletrólise conectada por um limitador de corrente á bateria do automóvel ou ao alternador.[010] Document US4030455 describes an electrolysis cell connected by a current limiter to the car battery or alternator.
[011] O documento CN204357584 descreve uma máquina de oxidrogênio instalada no veículo que usa a saída de corrente contínua da bateria para dividir a água em hidrogênio e oxigênio.[011] Document CN204357584 describes an oxydrogen machine installed in the vehicle that uses the direct current output of the battery to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.
It is mentioned that, in one embodiment, the electronic control unit is powered by a power supply that can be generated by the electrical system of the internal combustion unit or can be generated independently from a battery or autonomous generator, such as a solar panel .
However, state-of-the-art solutions involve electrically connecting the battery to the hydrogen generator, affecting the battery amperage by virtue of presenting yet another energy-dependent device. In this way, it is necessary to increase the amperage of the battery and/or alternator, in order to guarantee sufficient energy distribution so that none of the components are affected when the entire electrical set is in full operation.
A second situation concerns space restrictions in the vehicle's engine, so that the installation of an electrolysis cell and the electrical connections and piping makes adaptation a challenging task.
Thus, the object of this invention patent is a hybrid battery that has an electrolysis cell connected in series with the electrochemical cells of the battery, taking advantage of the current received from the source of electrical energy for the generation of oxyhydrogen (HHO), without impacting the distribution of energy to the vehicle's components.
The invention describes a hybrid battery connected to a source of electrical energy and equipped with an electrolysis cell connected in series with the electrochemical cells of the battery, so that it does not affect the distribution of energy to the vehicle components.
The invention describes a hybrid battery that has the same installation conditions as conventional batteries, without changing the original mechanical and electrical characteristics of the vehicle.
[018] A figura 1 apresenta vista em perspectiva do invólucro da bateria e suas conexões.[018] Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the battery casing and its connections.
[019] A figura 2 apresenta representação esquemática da bateria híbrida com invólucro único contendo acumuladores e célula de eletrólise.[019] Figure 2 shows a schematic representation of the hybrid battery with a single casing containing accumulators and electrolysis cell.
[020] A figura 3 apresenta representação esquemática da bateria híbrida com invólucro específico para posicionamento dos acumuladores e um invólucro contendo uma célula de eletrólise conectado ao invólucro da bateria.[020] Figure 3 shows a schematic representation of the hybrid battery with specific housing for positioning the accumulators and a housing containing an electrolysis cell connected to the battery housing.
The hybrid battery, object of the present patent, comprises a single casing (10) equipped with a terminal load pole (11) where the source of electrical energy (FE) is connected, such as the alternator, and a discharge terminal pole (12) that directs the electrical energy to the vehicle electrical system.
In the inner region of the casing (10) vessels are arranged where the electrochemical cells (20) connected in series are positioned, one of the vessels having at least one electrolysis cell (30) connected in series to the positive terminal (14) of the battery and the load terminal pole (11) to which the electrical power source is connected.
The housing (10) has an inlet equipped with a connector (15) where the pipe that directs the hydrogen produced in the electrolysis cell to the mixing chamber with the fuel is engaged.
The electrolysis cell (30) is positioned in a vessel of the casing (10) and receives energy directly from the electrical power source (FE), through the terminal load pole (11), said electrolysis cell (30) connected in series to the electrochemical cells (20) positioned in the other vessels of the casing (10). With this configuration, the electrolysis cell (30) does not store energy, allowing the passage of electric current from the electrical energy source (FE) to the electrochemical cells (20). The electronegativity of the metal used in the vessel that houses the electrolysis cell (30) is very close to the electronegativity of the lead in the casing (10), which allows extracting an electrochemical cell (20) to make room for the electrolysis cell (30) without that work overload of the power source (EF) occurs.
The oxyhydrogen (HHO) generated in the electrolysis cell (30) is released through an outlet (15) where the pipe that directs the oxyhydrogen (HHO) to the mixing chamber with the fuel is connected.
[026] A célula de eletrólise (30) apresenta pressão de até 1 PSI e voltagem da célula de 2,2 A 2,5 V.[026] The electrolysis cell (30) has a pressure of up to 1 PSI and cell voltage of 2.2 A 2.5 V.
The electrolysis cell electrodes (30) comprise at least 6 electrically connected stainless steel plates, supported by electrical insulators.
[028] O vaso que contém a célula eletrolítica (30) apresenta um visor (16) para verificação do nível de eletrólito.[028] The vessel containing the electrolytic cell (30) has a display (16) for checking the electrolyte level.
In a second embodiment, as shown in figure 3, the hybrid battery comprises a pair of casings (10) and (10a) unitized associated with each other by means of fitting, so that the pair of casings (10) and ( 10a) presents a final dimension equivalent to conventional batteries.
Neste primeiro invólucro (10a) é disposta a célula de eletrólise (30), alimentada pela corrente elétrica da fonte de energia elétrica (FE).[030] The first casing (10a) has a load terminal pole (11) where the electrical power source (FE) is connected, such as the alternator. In this first housing (10a) the electrolysis cell (30) is arranged, powered by the electric current from the electrical energy source (FE).
The second casing (10) is connected in series to the first casing (10a) for the passage of electric current, in said second casing (10) the electrochemical cells (20) of the battery that feed the vehicle's electrical system are positioned and a terminal discharge pole (12) that directs the electrical energy to the vehicle electrical system.
