Invention modalities include an electrical communications cable device and manufacturing method. The electrical communications cable comprises an information transmission medium such as an isolated electrical conductor or a pair of electrical conductors, a separating layer formed around the transmission medium and a low smoke depolyvinyl chloride (LSPVC) protective casing formed around the separating layer. The separating layer is made of, for example, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or other suitable dielectric material. Alternatively, the communications cable device included a flute to separate insulated electrical conductors therein. A method for making communications cable comprises providing such a transmission medium as an isolated electrical conductor, a pair of electrical conductors or a plurality of pairs of electrical conductors, form a separating layer around the transmission medium and form a protective LSPVC wrapper around the separating layer. The separating layer is made of a suitable dielectric material such as PTFE or PTFE tape. The separating layer improves the dielectric properties of the cable in such a way that the attenuation of signals that propagate along conductors within the cable is reduced. Also, the layer separator reduces the tension between the protective housing and the transmission medium, thereby improving the cable's attenuation characteristics and allowing portions of the protective housing to be removed more easily than in conventional communications cable configurations.
