PERFECTIONNEMENTS A L'EMBALLAGE DES CIGARETTES.
L'invention a pour objet mne enveloppe ou emballage perfectionné pour un article ou objet en forme de bloc, ou une botte ou série d'articles ou objets de cette forme, et con- oerne particulièrement les enveloppes ou emballages en forme d'U du type constitué à l'aide d'une feuille de papier, de façon que les deux côtés et le fond de l'enveloppe ou emballage soient obtenus en repliant la feuille en forme d'U, et l'extrémité de l'emballage ou enveloppe est fermée en formant deux plis laté- raux et repliant deux grandes pattes terminales l'une sur l'au- tre.
L'invention consiste en une enveloppe ou emballage de papier en forme d'U, du type ci-dessus mentionné, caractérisé en ce que la dernière patte terminale large est agenoée de ma- nière à s'étendre par le travers de l'extrémité de l'enveloppe ou emballage et ensuite sur la faoe suivante oontigüe de

cette extrémité.
Dans l'emballage d'articles commeroiaux il est devenu de pratique universelle de prévoir une enveloppe exter- ne de papier mince transparent. Ainsi, dans l'emballage des cigarettes, il est d'usage d'envelopper l'étui a glissière usuel dans une enveloppe externe do papier transparent, et 1 on a constaté qu'en enveloppant des paquets de cigarettes, une dépression peu profonde est souvent formée a l'extrémité du paquet voisine de l'extrémité de l'enveloppe externe qui doit être fermée, ce qui rend extrêmement difficile la fixa- tion des plis latéraux et des larges pattes terminales de 1' enveloppe externe de façon à la; rendre d'apparence nette et en substance étanohe.
Dans l'emballage des cigaretteson a proposé dans le brevet anglais 255.937 de déplacer la coulisse par rapport à la glissière ou l'étui de manière que ces deux par- ties affleurant l'une avec l'autre à l'extrémité de l'enve- loppe externe qui doit être fermée.
On remarquera que cette opération est impossible dans le cas de paquets de tabac pour lesquels les extrémités du paquet sont refoulées vers l'intérieur de façon à consti- tuer des dépressions peu profondes, et l'invention a pour objet de prévoir un emballage ou enveloppe externe de papier qui peut être automatiquement disposé autour d'un paquet de tabac, ou un article ou objet semblable, et permette néan- moins la fermeture nette de l'enveloppe sans qu'il soit néces- saire que les larges pattes terminales, et les plis latéraux soient pressés dans la dépression du paquet.
En. outre on remarquera que lorsque les larges pattes terminales sont réunies entre-elles, sur l'extrémité du paquet, à la manière décrite dans le brevet anglais ? 255.937 ces pattes sont souvent appliquées sur l'extrémité du paquet de manière telle que ce n'est qu'avec difficulté que l'enveloppe externe peut être enlevée, tandis qu'avec

l'enveloppe ou emballage externe de papier établi conformément à la présente invention, le prolongement de la dernière patte terminale large peut n'être que partiellement collé sur la fa- ce de l'étui, en permettant par conséquent le soulèvement du prolongement constitué par la dernière patte terminale dans le but de déohirer l'enveloppe externe et de la séparer de l'ar- tiole ou objet qui s'y trouve enveloppé.
L'invention sera plus spécialement déorite ci-après en se référant au dessin annexé dans lequel:
Figures 1 et 2 montrent deux vues perspectives d'une enveloppe ou emballage en forme d'U, constitué d'une en- veloppe transparente mince, de préférence de forme rectangu- laire ;
Figure 3 montre l'effet que peut avoir la oolle ou gomme sur la dernière patte terminale d'un emballage ou en- veloppe dans lequel la dernière patte terminale ne se prolonge pas au delà de l'extrémité et sur une faoe de l'emballage ou enveloppe ; et,
Figure 4 indique les divers points par lesquels la dernière patte terminale peut être fixée à l'emballage ou enveloppe.
L'emballage ou enveloppe en forme d'U est automa- tiquement confectionné à l'aide d'un flan de papier de oonfor- mation reotangulaire, de préférence par la méthode et les moy- ens décrits dans le brevet anglais 259,094, le flan est plié en forme d'U autour de l'article ou objet en forme de bloo ou de la botte ou série d'artioles ou objets de cette forme à em- baller, de façon que les branohes de l'U présentent des lon- gueurs inégales, et les bords latéraux du flan s'étendent au- delà des faoes latérales de l'article ou objet.
Les prolongements 2 et 3 de 1 extrémité ou fond 1 de 1'U sont repliés le long des deux faces latérales de l'ar- ticle ou objet, et les prolongements 4 et 5 et 6 et 7 des branches 12 de 1'U sont repliés vers le bas et vers le haut

Le prolon- gement 4 est assujetti au moyen d'adhésif au prolongement 6, et le prolongement 5 est assujetti d'une manière semblable au prolongement 7, de façon à constituer une enveloppa en forme d'U ouverte à une extrémité. les extrémités libres 8 et 9 des faces latérales de l'emballage ou enveloppe sont pliées vers l'intérieur, sui- vant une direction perpendiculaire aux faces latérales de 1' article ou objet et forment deux larges pattes terminales 10 et 11 qui constituent des prolongements des larges faces laté- rales 12 de l'emballage ou enveloppe
La large patte terminale 10 est moins développée que la large patte terminale 11 et cette patte 10 est par suite rabattue sur les plis latéraux 8 et 9, après quoi la lar- ge patte terminale 11 est repliée en travers de l'extrémité de l'emballage,
et son prolongement 13 est ensuite rabattu sur la face large oontigüe 12 de l'emballage.
La dernière large patte terminale 11 peut être fi- xée à la large patte terminale 10 en un ou plusieurs points le long de l'extrémité de l'emballage, par exemple aux points 15 ou bien le prolongement 14 peut être fixé à la face large 12 aux points 16. Si c'est nécessaire toutefois, une ligne de oolle ou gomme 17 peut s'étendre sur la ligne d'intersection entre l'extrémité et la large face de l'emballage.
En se référant à la figure 3, qui représente un emballage en forme d'U dans lequel l'extrémité libre de la lar- ge patte terminale ne se prolonge pas au delà de la face adja- cente de l'emballage, on remarquera que la ligne de gomme des- tinée à fixer la large patte terminale a provoqué le gaufrage ou des ondulations de l'extrémité libre de cette patte, défaut que l'on a rencontré, mais dans le cas où la patte terminale large est rabattue sur une face de l'emballage (figure 4) la dernière patte terminale est composée de deux portions perpen-

diculaires entre-elles, 11 et 14 qui, en raison de leur oon- formation en équerre, offrent de la résistance au gaufrage ou ondulation.
Il s'en suit que, oonformément à la présente inven- tion, les plis latéraux et les larges pattes terminales peuvent être repliés sur l'extrémité de l'emballage ou enveloppe sans faire intervenir une pression en direction de l'axe longitudi- nal de cet emballage.. Si une dépression peu profonde existe à une extrémité de l'article ou objet, la dernière patte ter- minale large 11 est tendue en travers de l'extrémité de l'arti- ole ou objet, et rabattue le long de la large face 12 de ce dernier.
Lorsque l'objet est constitué par un article du genre d'un paquet de cigarettes ou d'un paquet de tabac, oe dernier peut être légèrement oomprimé pendant qu'il est emballé, et son élasticité naturelle employée, après que la dernière patte terminale large a été serrée en travers de l'extrémité de l'em- ballage et rabattue sur une large face, pour assurer que la dernière patte terminale reste bien tendue ou raidie en travers de l'extrémité de l'emballage.
REVENDICATIONS.
1.- Un emballage ou enveloppa en forme d'U, du type confectionné à l'aide d'une feuille de papier de façon que deux cotés et le fond de l'emballage sont formés en repliant la feuille en forme d'U et l'extrémité ouverte de l'emballa- ge ou enveloppe est fermée en rabattant deux plis latéraux et repliant deux larges pattes terminales l'une sur l'autre, ca raotérisé en ce que la dernière patte terminale large, est agen- oée de façon à s'étendre en travers de l'extrémité de l'embal- lage ou enveloppe et ensuite sur la face suivante oontigüe de ce dernier.

CIGARETTE PACKAGING IMPROVEMENTS.
The invention relates to an improved envelope or packaging for an article or object in the form of a block, or a bundle or series of articles or articles of this form, and particularly relates to the envelopes or U-shaped packaging of the type consisting of a sheet of paper, so that both sides and the bottom of the envelope or wrapper are obtained by folding the sheet into a U-shape, and the end of the wrapper or envelope is closed by forming two lateral folds and folding two large end legs one over the other.

In the packaging of commercial articles it has become universal practice to provide an outer envelope of transparent thin paper. Thus, in the packaging of cigarettes, it is customary to wrap the customary zipper case in an outer envelope of transparent paper, and it has been found that when wrapping packs of cigarettes a shallow depression is created. often formed at the end of the bundle adjacent to the end of the outer casing which is to be closed, making it extremely difficult to secure the side pleats and wide end tabs of the outer casing so as to; make it appear crisp and in substance etanic.

The invention will be more specifically described below with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Figures 1 and 2 show two perspective views of a U-shaped envelope or package, consisting of a thin transparent envelope, preferably rectangular in shape;
Figure 3 shows the effect that the oolle or gum can have on the last terminal leg of a package or envelope in which the last terminal leg does not extend beyond the end and on a side of the package or envelope; and,
Figure 4 shows the various points by which the last terminal tab can be attached to the packaging or envelope.
The U-shaped wrapper or envelope is automatically made using a reotangularly shaped paper blank, preferably by the method and means described in UK Patent 259,094, the blank. is folded in the form of a U around the article or object in the form of a bloo or of the bundle or series of artioles or objects of this form to be wrapped, so that the branohes of the U have long unequal sizes, and the side edges of the blank extend beyond the side edges of the article or article.
The extensions 2 and 3 of the end or bottom 1 of the U are folded back along the two side faces of the article or object, and the extensions 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 of the branches 12 of the U are folded down and up

dicular to each other, 11 and 14 which, by virtue of their right-angled oon- formation, offer resistance to crimping or corrugation.
It follows that, in accordance with the present invention, the lateral folds and the wide end tabs can be folded over the end of the packaging or envelope without involving a pressure in the direction of the longitudinal axis. of this package .. If a shallow depression exists at one end of the article or article, the last wide end tab 11 is stretched across the end of the article or article, and folded down along the end of the article or article. of the wide face 12 of the latter.
