<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

METHOD FOR COMPUTER COMMUNICATION AND A DEVICE FOR THIS
The invention relates to a method and a device for establishing a direct connection between two communication devices via a telephone line, namely a ringing communication device and a called communication device, essentially each consisting of a computer equipped with a monitor with a modem, which communication

a transfer protocol.
Conventional telephone allows from point to point. For limited target groups, for example the deaf, a voice phone is not user-friendly. Interactive communication is not possible via such a telephone device. During the last years there has been a steady rise in connection with information transfer via computers. These computers are equipped with a modem for this purpose, which then contacts a different communication device, such as another computer equipped with a modem.
Possibilities in modem use are that a first ringing communication device forwards an information packet to the called communication device. The called communication device must be in operation for this and can receive the information sent as a package.
Another possibility for allowing two communication devices to communicate is the use of an internet access, known as the so-called "chat". However, via the internet one must then be constantly connected via an internet provider to make a direct communication between the two communication devices. Hey '; In this case, a dial-up system from the communications device to the provider is involved, so that no direct point-to-point communication is obtained.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The object of the present invention is to obtain a method of the above-mentioned type, which establishes the point-to-point connection between the two communication devices and which is particularly suitable for hearing impaired users.
In a first solution, the invention provides a method for this purpose in which the transfer protocol comprises a cycle function, which allows the called communication device to choose whether or not to accept the connection for a certain time.
This has the effect that the two communicating communication devices communicate with each other as a telephone. When the bell rings and a connection is envisaged, the called communication device has the choice of accepting this connection or not.
In direct communication between communication devices consisting of a computer with a modem, such recycle functions are not present in a transfer protocol. The advantage is that the computer of the called communication device does not always have to be in operation or, when it is in operation, does not have to be connected to the communication program. There will always be a questioning function whereby the called communication device may or may not accept the connection.
In a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the transfer protocol comprises a cross-sectional function for forwarding information from the calling communication device to a waiting domain of the called communication device.
2 relates to a similar use as an answering machine. If the called communication device does not want to enter directly into an interactive communication, the latter can store the forwarded information in a waiting domain. At a later time, this waiting domain can then be queried by the computer of the called communication device.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Another preferred form relates to the transfer protocol in which a response function is provided, such that when the connection is accepted by the called communication device, two areas are created on the screens of both communication devices, namely a first area for receiving information and a second area for sending information, respectively, to and from the two communication devices.
This has the effect that an incoming and outgoing domain is created on both communication devices to enter an interactive point-to-point communication system.
As already stated above, the method according to the invention has a special advantage because the transfer protocol causes a signal when an attempt is made to connect.
This may, for example, be an audible signal, such as, for example, a bell or, and this, in particular for hearing impaired persons, a visual signal, for example a light signal. Another advantageous form is that such a signal is provided via a wireless signal device.
The invention also relates to a device provided with a computer with modem in which an acceptance protocol is provided for accepting incoming information. The method is explained on the basis of an example of the method, which is suitable for causing hearing disorders to communicate. As is clear from the above description, a system similar to normal telephone traffic will be provided to hearing records via a computer.
The preferred method is to bring together different facets such that a universal one

be connected in an interactive way via the telephone lines (analogue, ISDN or ADSL).
This software will be able to run on various operating systems including windows 95.98 and linux with connection of an ISDN, analogue or ADSL modem. Especially for the hearing impaired or deaf person this will be done by means of an ISDN modem telephone in combination with Twinlijn from operator Belgacom. This gives us the possibility to give a different signal for the different telephone numbers.
For the hearing partner or family members this is done via different ring melodies and for the deaf person this will be done by an external flasch system '(this is a lamp that lights up when there is ringing voltage for the Deaftel system number on the telephone line). A modem is also built into the relevant device that requires an ISDN connection, but that can also support transmission to analogue modems. The signaling is also compatible with existing and new wireless vibra signaling.
A ring function is built into the software package, with a dialog box appearing on an incoming call and giving the deaf the opportunity to accept an incoming call or not. This screen also shows the caller's number and if the person is in the built-in telephone directory, the name is also stated.
Once the deaf takes the call by clicking on the relevant button, he will get a window that is divided into two and where you can chat online in a technical chat environment. The deaf person will also be able to make notes on the screen or make drawings that will also be forwarded interactively. If the connection is not accepted, the software will give a written reply message after a set time and gives the correspondent the opportunity to leave a written message.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
For each deaf, a separate MSN number will be programmed which will be called the Deaftel number.
These numbers will, if the person so wishes, appear on the Deaftel telephone directory that will be on the WWW website. DEAFTEL. com. This telephone book can be downloaded. The software package can be downloaded by anyone who wishes so that a universal communication system is created.
In another preferred form, the transfer protocol can also be provided with DTMF support for converting alphanumeric and alphabetic characters into DTMF tones.
In another preferred form, the method according to the invention comprises speech technology optionally provided with adapted vocabulary choices and applications.
