Description

AUSTRALIA
Patients Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT THE BATH ALARM The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me: THE BATH ALARM This invention is a device which alarms when the filling of the bath has reached the desired level.
Many people overflow their bath tubs and sinks each year because they have forgotten that they have left the water flowing into these vessels, or have been distracted and have left the water flowing into these vessels for an extended period of time and the bath or sink has subsequently overflowed.
This problem is overcome by the present invention, which provides the user with a warning signal when the bath has been filled to the desired level.
This invention is a device which is attached to the side of the bath via a rubber S. suction apparatus at the desired level the person wants the bath to be filled to.
the water reaches this level it carries upward a floating ball to a switch which then triggers an alarm to sound. This alarm attracts the attention the person whom is filling the bath who then turns off the water to the bath.
Diagram shows the basic design of this invention.
'The bath alarm apparatus is attached to the side of the bath via the suction caps 0 at the desired level the person would like the bath to be filled to The water level carries the floating ball up to the switch which then activates the speaker alarm which is on the top piece of the bath alarm apparatus. The speaker alarm is Spowered by an appropriate battery system which is located in the middle piece of the bath alarm apparatus.
There are three pieces to the bath alarm.
1. Top piece.
Consists of the speaker alarm which emits a high pitch noise and is water resistant.
2. Middle piece.
Consists of the cylinder battery power supply, float switch and on-off switch.
3. Bottom piece.
Consists of the floating ball in a cylinder.
The Top piece attaches to the middle piece via a thread and the middle piece attaches to the bottom piece via a thread.
The middle piece is sealed so as no water can enter the battery power supply.
When the water reaches the switch the circuit is complete and activates the speaker alarm which emits a high pitch noise which can be heard from a reasonable distance.
Provisional Specifications Alternative arrangement and optional features of The Bath Alarm.
Remote alarm activation.
Instead of the speaker alarm being part of the bath unit it can be a separate portable unit which can be activated via a remote emitting device attached to the top of the bath unit in the place where the speaker unit is on the diagram. This would allow the user to carry the remote speaker unit further distances away from the bath unit and receive a message from the bath unit to the remote speaker unit when the bath is at the desired level.
On-off switch modification ""Instead of the existing on-off switch as pictured on the diagram. The on-off switch could be activated by turning the speaker alarm around approximately 45 degrees.
Top view of speaker alarm o ff on Temperature monitoring device SA temperature monitoring device could be attached to the side of the Bath Alarm in such S a way that it could be easily detached to check the temperature of the water by holding it under the running tap. It would give indications of safe water temperatures for babies, children and adults.

Claims (1)

1. THE BATH ALARM is a device which attaches to the side of the bath or other vessel via suction caps at the required level the user wants the bath or vessel to be filled. The desired level is clearly marked on the device as in the diagram. The unit is battery powered, the battery or batteries are held in a water resistant cylinder. The floating ball which is held in a water permeable cylinder is free to float upward with the rising level of the water and is held in the device as shown on the diagram when it reaches the upper limit of its cylinder it pushes the float switch upward as it ascends closing the circuit between the battery power supply and the speaker alarm. When the water reaches this level the closed circuit activates the speaker alarm which emits a high pitch alarm noise which can be heard from a reasonable distance away. The unit has an on-off switch which allows the user to turn the device off without removing if from its fixed position on the bath or vessel. i. 0*0 oo
