NAME OF APPLICANT: ACTUAL INVENTOR(S): ADDRESS FOR SERVICE: INVENTION TITLE: GAETANO GENOVESE GAETANO GENOVESE LORD AND COMPANY, Patent Trade Mark Attorneys, of 4 Douro Place, West Perth, Western Australia, 6005, AUSTRALIA.
"ROLLER DOOR ANCHOR" DETAILS OF ASSOCIATED PROVISIONAL APPLICATION NO: PN 6498 Filed November 10, 1995 The following Statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me/us: 2 The present invention relates to a roller door anchor.
It is known to provide a method of anchoring roller doors on shop fronts and the like to prevent unauthorized entry to the premises. A known method is to provide a first member secured to the lower portion of the roller door and a second member secured to the floor adjacent the roller door. The floor mounted member and the door mounted member then have a means to engage with each other so they can be locked together.
Previous methods of accomplishing this have had disadvantages such as problems with aligning of the floor mounted and roller door mounted members and protruding portions on the floor mounted member causing difficulties for traffic over the area when the door is open. Further problems exist is some devices due to debris collecting in parts of the floor mounting member preventing easy engagement with the door mounted member.
The present invention attempts to overcome at least in part some of the disadvantages of previous roller door anchors.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention there is provided roller door anchor including a floor mounting plate having an opening such that an anchor member o is receivable in the opening and rotatable between a first position wherein the anchor member is removable from the opening and a second position wherein the anchor member engages with the mounting plate adjacent the opening so that the anchor member S cannot be removed from the opening; and a roller door mounting plate arranged to be secured to a roller door; and an elongate member pivotally connected at one longitudinal end thereof to either the anchor member or the roller door mounting plate and engageable at the other longitudinal end thereof with the other of the anchor member or the roller door mounting plate by a releasable locking means such that when the anchor member is in the second position, rotation of the anchor member relative to the floor mounting plate is prevented.
The present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roller door anchor in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 is an exploded view of the roller door anchor of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a side view of a floor mounting plate and anchor member of the roller door anchor of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a plan view of the floor mounting plate and anchor member of Figure 3; and Figure 5 is a perspective view of the roller door anchor of Figure 1 secured to a roller door.
Referring to Figures 1 to 5, there is shown a roller door anchor 10 including an anchor member 12, a floor mounting plate 14, a roller door mounting plate 16 and an elongate member 15. The anchor member 12 includes a central portion 18 having a plurality of outwardly extending wings 20. Further, the anchor member 12 includes an upwardly extending member 22.
The floor mounting plate 14 has a opening 26. The opening 26 has a shape complementary to that of the anchor member 12 such that the anchor member 12 may be inserted into the opening 26 when the anchor member 12 is in a first position. The anchor member 12 may then be rotated to a second position in which the wings 20 engage with the floor mounting plate 14 adjacent the opening 26 such that the anchor member 12 cannot be removed from the opening 26 of the floor mounting plate 14.
4 The floor mounting plate 14 also includes holes 30. Each hole 30 is further provided with a securing means 28, such as a bolt. The securing means 28 are inserted through the holes and corresponding openings in a surface 48 to secure the floor mounting plate 14 to the surface 48. The surface 48 is provided with a first recessed portion 50 aligned with the opening 26 when the floor mounting plate 14 is secured to the surface 48. Further, the floor mounting plate 14 may be recessed into the surface 48 such that an upper surface of the floor mounting plate 14 does not protrude substantially above the surface 48.
The roller door mounting plate 16 includes and outwardly extending member 36. The outwardly extending member 36 includes a first aperture 38. The roller door mounting plate 16 also includes a plurality of holes 40 arranged to receive suitable securing means 42, such as bolts. The securing means 42 are inserted through the holes 40 and through corresponding holes in a roller door and a backing plate 44. The backing plate 44 is arranged in alignment with the roller door mounting plate 16 on an opposite side of the roller door.
oeoe 15 The elongate member 15 includes a second aperture 34 at a first end thereof and a third aperture 32 at a second end thereof Also provided is a pin member 46. The pin member 46 is arranged to be inserted through the third aperture 32 in the elongate member 15 and a fourth aperture 24 in the upwardly extending member 22 of the anchor member 12, such that the elongate member 15 is ooo *20 pivotally fixed to the upwardly extending member 22.
In use, the floor mounting plate 14 is secured to a surface 48 adjacent the roller door by securing means 30. The roller door mounting plate 16 is secured to the roller door by securing means 42 and backing plate 44. The roller door mounting plate 16 is positioned on the roller door such that it is adjacent the floor mounting plate 14 when the roller door is in a closed position.
The anchor member 12 is positioned in the first position and inserted in the opening 26.
The anchor member 12 is then rotated to the second position in which it cannot be removed from the opening 26 of the floor mounting plate 14.
The elongate member 15 is then rotated about the upwardly extending member 22 of the anchor member 12 such that the second aperture 34 is aligned with the first aperture 38 of the outwardly extending member 36. A releasable locking means (not shown) such as a padlock is then inserted through the first and second apertures 38 and 34, preventing further rotation of the anchor member 12 and hence removal from the floor mounting plate 14.
Modifications and variations as would be apparent to a skilled addressee are deemed to be within the scope of the present invention.
