Recently, in order to more efficiently carry out fuel supplying operations in a fuel supplying station and improve services related to the fuel supplying operations, various optional functions are provided on a fuel S0 supplying apparatus.
o0 Examples of such optional functions include a preset fuel supplying function, an additional fuel 0, supplying function, a change calculating function and the like. With the preset fuel supplying function, it is o possible to automatically supply a preset quantity or V0 price of fuel by presetting a desired quantity or price of 0 0 S 20 fuel before starting the fuel supplying operation.
o According to the additional fuel supplying function, it is possible to automatically supply additional quantity or Sprice of fuel up to a predetermined integral quantity or price by rounding up the quantity or price of supplied fuel to the nearest whole number when a certain instruction is made during the fuel supplying operation or after the fuel supplying operation is stopped. On the other hand, with the change calculating function, it is possible to automatically know the change to be returned to a customer by inputting an amount of money received from the customer because the price of supplied fuel will be subtracted automatically from the inputted amount of money.
3- 3 1 The optional functions such as those dscribed above are selected and set by manipulating a fuel supply setting apparatus provided on the fuel supplying apparatus.
However, the following problems exist in the conventional fuel supply setting apparatus.
Normally, the preset quantity and price of fuel are values such as 10 k, 20 k, and Y3000, Y5000, °0 respectively. The additional quantity and price of fuel 1o 0 are values such as 1 k, and Y10, Y100, The 0 o amount of money received from the customer and inputted is 00 o a value such as Y5000, Y10000,....
oAccordingly, there are two methods of setting the fuel supplying data on the fuel supply setting apparatus. According to a first method, a plurality of 0 function keys are provided in correspondence with each of the fuel supplying data, and for example, a function key for "preset quantity of 10 is manipulated in order to set a preset quantity of 10 k. On the other hand, *i according to a second method, the numerical portion of the fuel supplying data is set from a ten-key and a mode key is manipulated to set the kind of fuel supplying data entered from the ten-key, and for example, when setting a preset quantity of 10 k, numbers and are entered from the ten-key and a mode key for "preset fuel supplying mode" is thereafter manipulated so as to indicate that the value entered from the ten-key relates to the preset quantity.
However, according to the first method, the number of function keys becomes large. For this reason, although the setting can be made by one manipulation of the function key, it takes time for the operator to find the desired function key. As a result, there is a problem Ii -4- 1 in that the manipulation of the function key is troublesome for the operator. On the other hand, according to the second method, the number of keys is small, but the operator must remember the troublesome sequence of manipulating the keys, and the operator must manipulate a plurality of keys to set a fuel supplying data. Hence, the operator may easily make an error when manipulating the keys, and there is a problem in that an erroneous fuel supplying data may be set.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, it is a general object of the present invention to provide a novel and useful fuel supply setting apparatus in which the problems described heretofore are eliminated.
Another and more specific object of the present invention is to provide a fuel supply setting apparatus in which the manipulation of keys is simplified when carrying out a fuel supplying operation in a preset fuel supplying mode or the like in a fuel supplying station, and the efficiency of the fuel supplying operation is improved.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a fuel supply setting apparatus provided in a fuel supplying apparatus and comprising storage means for storing operation menus made up of a plurality of fuel supplying data in correspondence with each of operating stages of the fuel supplying apparatus, discriminating means for discriminating an operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus out of the operating stages, control means for reading out from the storage means an operation menu corresponding to the operating stage discriminated in the discriminating means, display means for displaying a plurality of fuel supplying data constituting the r operation menu read out from the storage means, and setting means for setting and inputting a desired fuel supplying data out of the plurality of fuel supplying data displayed on the display means.
In accordance with the present invention there is disclosed a fuel supply setting apparatus provided in a fuel supplying apparatus which has fuel supply control means for controlling a fuel supplying operation based on a set fuel supplying data, said fuel supply setting apparatus comprising: operation menu storage means for storing operation menus made up of.a plurality of fuel supplying data in crrespondence with each of operating stages of the fuel supplying apparatus; discriminating means for discriminating an operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus out of the operating stages; read menu storage means for reading out from said operation menu storage means an operation menu which corresponds to the operating stage discriminated in said discriminating means and is made up of a plurality of fuel supplying data; Ct display means for displaying the plurality of fuel supplying data constituting the operation menu which is read out by said read menu 2) storage means; setting key means for setting an inputting a desired fuel supplying data out of the plurality of fuel supplying data constituting the operation menu which is displayed on said display means; and set control means for setting the desired fuel supplying data S23 which is set and input by said setting key means in said fuel supply control means.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION oo FIG.! generally shows the construction of a fuel supplying apparatus applied with an embodiment of the fuel o supply setting apparatus according to the present invention. A fuel supply setting apparatus 2 for setting o° and displaying operation menus related to preset quantities and prices of fuel, additional quantities and prices of fuel, received amount of money and the like, and a customer display device 3 for displaying a present oOo quantity and/or price of fuel and the like are D respectively arranged on a front of a fuel supplying apparatus i. A fuel supplying hose 4 having a nozzle mounted on a tip end thereof is arranged on a side of the fuel supplying apparatus i. The nozzle 5 is hooked on a nozzle rest 6 when not carrying out a fuel supplying operation.
As shown in FIG.2, the fuel supply setting apparatus 2 comprises on a manipulating side thereof a setting display device 7 for displaying the operation menu, unit price of fuel and the like, five kinds of menu keys 8 (8a through 8e) for selecting a predetermined fuel i_ LLY-b_ C YC- -7- 1 supplying data from the operation menu, and setting keys 9 including a ten-key for setting the unit price of fuel and the like.
Returning now to the description of FIG.l, a fuel supply control device 10 provided inside the fuel supplying apparatus 1 controls various parts of the fuel supplying apparatus i. A nozzle switch 11 supplies to the fuel supply control device 10 an OFF signal in a waiting state where the nozzle 5 is hooked on the nozzle rest 6 and an ON signal in a fuel supplying state where the nozzle 5 is unhooked from the nozzle rest 6. A pump 12 pumps up fuel such as gasoline stored in an underground I tank (not shown) located under the fuel supplying station.
t A motor 13 for driving the pump 12 is controlled by the fuel supply control device 10. A flowmeter 14 measures a 44 flow quantity of the fuel which is pumped up by the pump 12 and is supplied to the fuel supplying hose 4. A flow quantity pulse generator 16 generates a number of flow 0o 0 quantity pulses proportional to the flow quantity of the fuel measured in the flowmeter 14, and the flow quantity 0 o pulses are supplied to the fuel supply control device 'lftFIG.3 is a system block diagram showing the construction of the present embodiment of the fuel supply setting apparatus. In FIG.3, those parts which are the same as those corresponding parts in FIG.I are designated by the same reference numerals, and a description thereof will be omitted. In FIG.3, an operating stage discriminating part 20 is controlled by the fuel supply control device 10, and discriminates the operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus 1 based on the ON/OFF signal from the nozzle switch 11 and the flow quantity pulses from the flow quantity pulse generator 16. An operation menu storage part 21 stores various kinds of 1T -T I~

-8- 1 operation menus Ma through Md as tables 21a through 21d, as may be seen from FIG.4.
In this case, the operation menu Ma comprises various preset quantities and prices, the operation menu Mb comprises data for displaying on the setting display device 7 a warning display such as "EMERGENCY STOP" when an accident occurs and the nozzle 5 is accidentally pulled out of a fuel supplying opening of a vehicle (not shown) oD Iduring the fuel supplying operation, for example. The operation menu Mc comprises various additional quantities o f and prices, and the operation menu Md comprises various amounts of money received from the customer.
As shown in FIG.5, a read menu storage part 22 o stores the operation menu as set data D1 through D4 in a form of a table 22a. A setting control part 23 controls various parts of the fuel supply setting apparatus 2.
Based on an output discrimination signal of the operating stage discriminating part 20 indicative of the discriminated operating stage, the setting control part 23 reads out from the tables of the operation menu storage part 21 an operation menu corresponding to the operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus 1, and stores the read out operation menu into the table 22a of the read menu storage part 22 as the set data D1 through D4.
Next, a description will be given on the operation of the present embodiment by referring to the flow charts of FIGS.6 through 8. In the description given hereunder, an operating stage discriminating process I discriminates the operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus i, an operation menu changing process II changes the operation menu in accordance with the operating stage, and a key manipulation process III concerns the manipulation of keys based on the displayed operation 9- 1 menu.
Operating Stage Discriminating Process I: Prior to starting a fuel supplying operation in the preset fuel supplying mode, when the operator unhooks the nozzle 5 from the nozzle rest 6, the ON si.gnal from the nozzle switch 11 is supplied to the fuel supply control device 10 and the operating stage discriminating part 20, and the discrimination result in a step SAl shown .in FIG.6 becomes YES. Hence, the operating stage 1" 0 discriminating part 20 discriminates in a step SA2 that p the fuel supplying apparatus 1 is in an operating stage A from a time when the nozzle 5 is unhooked from the nozzle o rest 6 to a time when the supply of fuel is actually o started. When the supply of fuel is started and the flow quantity pulses from the flow quantity pulse generator 16 are supplied at predetermined time intervals to the fuel supply control device 10 and the operating stage ol discriminating part 20, the discrimination result in a o 0 step SA3 becomes YES. Thus, the operating stage discriminating part 20 discriminates in a step SA4 that the fuel supplying apparatus 1 is in an operating stage B *Oltfrom a time when the supply of fuel is actually started to S3 a time when the actual supply of fuel is ended.
When the supply of fuel is ended and the fuel supply control device 10 supplies a stop signal to the motor 13 for stopping the motor 13, the flow quantity pulses from the flow quantity pulse generator 16 are no longer supplied to the fuel supply control device 10 nor the operating stage discriminating part 20, and the discrimination result in a step SA5 becomes YES. Hence, the operating stage discriminating part 10 discriminates in a step SA6 that the fuel supplying apparatus 1 is in an operating stage C from a time when the actual supply of r, 1 fuel is ended to a time when the nozzle 5 is hooked on the nozzle rest 6. When the quantity of supplied fuel displayed on the customer display device 3 is less than the preset quantity and an additional quantity of fuel is supplied, the flow quantity pulses from the flow quantity pulse generator 16 are again supplied to the fuel supply control device 10 and the operating stage discriminating part 20, and the discrimination result in a step SA7 I becomes YES.
r, 10 When the supply of fuel is ended and the nozzle is hooked on the nozzle rest 6, the OFF signal from the Sr nozzle switch 11 is supplied to the fuel supply control device 10 and the operating stage discriminating part and the discrimination result in a step SA8 becomes YES.
Accordingly, the operating stage discriminating part discriminates in a step SA10 that the fuel supplying apparatus 1 is in an operating stage D from a time when i the nozzle 5 is hooked on the nozzle rest 6 to a time when 0 0 the nozzle 5 is next unhooked from the nozzle rest 6.
On the other hand, in the case where the supply of fuel is stopped after the nozzle 5 is unhooked from the nozzle rest 6 and the discrimination result in the step

i SA3 is NO, the discrimination result in a step SA9 becomes YES when the nozzle 5 is hooked on the nozzle rest 6. In this case, the operating stage discriminating part discriminates in the step SA10 that the fuel supplying apparatus 1 is in the operating stage D.
Operation Menu Changing Process II: When it is discriminated in the operating stage discriminating process I that the fuel supplying apparatus 1 is in the operating stage D, the operating stage discriminating part 20 supplies a discrimination signal indicative of the operating stage D to the setting control 11- 1 part 23 in a step SBI shown in FIG.7. When the fuel supplying operation is started and the operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus 1 changes from the operating stage D to the operating stage A, the discrimination result in a step SB2 becomes YES, and the operation advances to a step SB3.
In the step SB3, the setting control part 23 reads out the operation menu Ma corresponding to the operating stage A from the table 21a of the operation menu storage part 21, and thereafter stores the operation menu Ma in the table 22a of the read menu storage part 22 as the set data D1 through D4. Next, the setting control part 23 reads out the set data D1 through D4 from the table 22a of the read menu storage part 22, and displays the operation menu Ma on a lower portion of the setting display device 7 at locations in correspondence with the positions of the menu keys 8. In FIG.2, "10 k, 20 Z, k Z, 3000E and 50OOE" are displayed as the operation menu 20 1 Ma.
But on the other hand, when there is no change in the operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus 1 and the discrimination result in the step SB2 is NO, the operation menu changing process is not carried out.
Key Manipulation Process III: For example, in the case where the preset quantity is "20 the menu key 8b of the fuel supply setting apparatus 2 is pushed, and the unit price of fuel is entered from the setting keys 9. The setting control part 23 reads the entry made from the fuel supplying setting apparatus 2 in a step SCI shown in FIG.8. In this case, out of the operation menu Ma displayed on the setting display device 7, the setting control part 8 reads out from the table 22a of the read menu storage part 22 L Irl~- -r 12 1 the set data D2 (that is, 20 corresponding to the pushed menu key 8b, and displays "20 on the top right of the setting display device 7, in a step SC2. Next, the step SC2 also supplies the set data D2 to the fuel supply control device Similarly thereafter, the set data is supplied to the fuel supplying control device 10 in accordance with each operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus i, and the fuel selling process is carried out by a point-ofsales (POS) system.
In the described embodiment, four kinds of operating stages are set, but the number of kinds of operating stages is not limited to four, and additional discrimination may be made to discriminate other operating stages. In addition, the unit price of fuel is entered from the setting keys 9 in the embodiment, but the entry of the unit price of fuel is not limited thereto. It is possible to store in the operation menu storage part 21 a 2 unit price menu which is set according to the kinds of S 20 gasoline and display this unit price menu on the setting 4 display device 7. Moreover, although one operation menu is provided for one operating stage in the embodiment, it is possible to provide a plurality of operation menus for one operating stage. In this case, it is possible to display the plurality of operation menus in sequence at predetermined intervals when the fuel supplying apparatus 1 is in this one operating stage having the plurality of operation menus.
As described heretofore, according to the fuel supply setting apparatus of the present invention, the operation menu is displayed on the display means according to the operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus.
For this reason, unlike in the conventional case, there is 4 13 1 no need for the operator to remember the manipulating sequence of the fuel supply setting apparatus. As a result, the manipulation of the fuel supply setting apparatus is simple, and the efficiency of the fuel supplying operation is improved. In addition, since it is possible to prevent erroneous manipulation of the keys, it is possible to eliminate troubles with the customer such as insufficient or excess supply of fuel, incorrect change with respect to the amount of money received from the customer and the like.
Further, the present invention is not limited to these embodiments, but various variations and modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims (3)

1. A fuel supply setting apparatus provided in a fuel supplying apparatus which has fuel supply control means for controlling a fuel supplying operation based on a set fuel supplying data, said fuel supply setting apparatus comprising: operation menu storage means for storing operation menus made up of a plurality of fuel supplying data in correspondence with each operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus; discriminating means for discriminating an operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus out of the operating stages; read menu storage means for reading out from said operation menu storage means an operation menu which corresponds to the operating stage discriminated in said discriminating means and is made up of a plurality of fuel. supplying data; display means for displaying the plurality of fuel supplying data constituting the operation menu which is read out by said read menu storage means; setting key means for setting an inputting a desired fuel supplying data out of the plurality of fuel supplying data constituting the operation menu which is displayed on said display means; and set control means for setting the desired fuel supplying data which is set and input by said setting key means in said fuel supply control means.

A fuel supply setting apparatus as claimed in claim 1 in which said operation menu storage means stores as the fuel supplying data at least one kind of data out of various preset quantities and prices, various kinds of warning displays. various additional quantities and prices, and various changes. i A fuel supply setting apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which said discriminating means discriminates the operating stage of the fuel supplying apparatus based on an output of a nozzle switch which is provided in the fuel supplying apparatus and outputs a signal which is dependent on standby and fuel supplying states of a nozzle and on an output of a flowmeter which is provided in the fuel supplying apparatus and outputs a signal dependent on a flow quantity of supplied fuel. rhk/888o 15

A fuel supply setting apparatus as claimed in any of claims 1 to 3 in which said setting key means comprises manipulation keys provided at positions in correspondence with locations where the fuel supplying data are displayed on said display means.
