PERSONAL ATTACHMENT ACCESSORY BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to personal attachment accessories.
2. Background and Relevant Art
[0002] The discussion of the background to the invention that follows is intended to
facilitate an understanding of the invention. However, it should be appreciated that the
discussion is not an acknowledgement or admission that any aspect of the discussion was part
of the common general knowledge as at the priority date of the application.
[0003] Personal attachment accessories, such as lanyards are increasingly popular as a
fashion trend, both for use among men and women alike. Historically, personal attachment
accessories tended to be suited to an end user in a more industrial environment, or for use in an
outdoor environment. More recently, however, personal attachment accessories have found
use as fashion accessories.
[0004] Recent fashion versions of lanyards, for example, come in various styles, and
tend toward longer straps using thinner, brightly decorated bands, and soft carabiner style
clips. The carabiner style clips tend to use soft, rounded curves. Such fashion lanyards are
useful for carrying small, low-weight items such as identification badges, and small wallets, or
the like.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The present invention is an attempt to solve these and other problems in the art
with fashion lanyards that can be used in both low and high weight stress uses. For example, one example of a fashion lanyard of the present invention comprises a strap of relatively short length, and double layered cotton, polyester, or cotton polyester blend. The strap further comprises a leather end for added attachment strength to a key ring portion. The opposing end comprises a spring-loaded snap hook.
[0006] Additional features and advantages will be set forth in the description which
follows, and in part will be obvious from the description, or may be learned by practice. The
features and advantages may be realized and obtained by means of the instruments and
combinations particularly pointed out in the appended claims and aspects. These and other
features will become more fully apparent from the following description and appended claims,
or may be learned by the practice of the examples as set forth hereinafter.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES
[0007] In order to describe the manner in which the above recited and other advantages
and features can be obtained, a more particular description briefly described above will be
rendered by reference to specific examples thereof, which are illustrated in the appended
drawings. Understanding that these drawings are merely illustrative and are not therefore to be
considered to be limiting of its scope, the computer system for dynamically parsing a digital
image to identify coating colors will be described and explained with additional specificity and
detail through the use of the accompanying drawings in which:

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0015] The present invention provides novel fashion lanyards that can be used in both low
and high weight stress uses. For example, one example of a fashion lanyard of the present
invention comprises a strap of relatively short length, and double layered cotton, polyester, or
cotton polyester blend. The strap further comprises a leather end for added attachment
strength to a key ring portion. The opposing end comprises a spring-loaded snap hook. The
illustrated and described personal attachment accessory is simple to manufacturer,
inexpensive, and has broad utility.
[0016] Figure 1 is a top, facing, right perspective view of a personal attachment accessory
100, (also referred to herein as "lanyard" or "fashion lanyard"). Figure 1 illustrates further
illustrates that the personal attachment accessory 100 can comprise a snap hook or clip 105 on
one side, and can further comprise a secondary material location (or secondary space) 115 for
branding at the bottom on another side connected to a key ring 120. One will appreciate that
the location of the secondary branding portion 115 relative to the key ring 120 or snap clip
portion 150 is not required. The strap 110 of the fashion lanyard is shown as a double layered,
although one will appreciate that a material of similar thickness and strength can be used
alternatively.
[0017] The personal attachment accessory can be made from a folded, stitched together
fabric, wherein the snap clip 105 is attached at one fold end 145 (or clip attachment interface
145), and the key ring is attached at an opposing end, e.g., via interface 150. The fabric of the
strap 110 (or main body) can comprise any number of textiles, including woven cotton,
polyester, and combinations thereof. The key ring attachment interface 150 may comprise the same materials, or may comprise leather or synthetic versions thereof. For example, Figure 1 shows that the attachment interface 150 comprises a secondary material/branding portion 115 that is folded in a loop about the strap main body 110, and stitched (with stitches 130) thereto.
The secondary material is preferably selected from materials at least as strong as the double
layered textile forming the main body 110, such as leather (or related synthetics).
[0018] One method of manufacture can include providing a strap having an extended,
unfolded height of about 2 cm (.78 in) to about 4 cm (1.57 in) , preferably about 2.4 cm (.94
in), and a length of about 12 cm (4.72) to about 17 cm (6.7 in), preferably about 14.8 cm (5.8
in). A manufacturer can insert one end of the strap 110 through a perforation (e.g., 140) of the
metal clip, such that the metal clip has a range of motion within the folded area of about 1 cm
(.39 in) to about 1.5 cm (1.5 in), preferably about 1.25 cm (.49 in). The manufacturer can
stitch the lanyard strap 110 about the fold end 145, as evident by the proximal dotted lines
130a beside elements 140 and 145. The manufacturer can then provide a secondary material
portion having a height of about 5 cm (1.96 in) to about 8 cm (3.14 in), preferably about 6.1
cm (2.4 in), and a width of about 1 cm (.39 in) to about 4 cm (1.57 in), preferably about 2.4 cm
(.94 in), and fold it in the middle, inserting one end through a key ring 120. The looped
portion forms the attachment interfaced 150. The manufacturer can then take the free ends of
the folded secondary material and position them about the free ends of the strap body 110.
The manufacturer can then provide stitching 130, thereby securing the secondary material 115
and strap main body 110, as well as the key ring 120 and metal clip 105 together via the folded
strap 110 and folded secondary material 115.
[0019] In one embodiment, the metal hook 105 (or metal clip) is about 1.5 (.59 in) to about
4 cm (1.57 in) in width, preferably about 3.2 cm (1.26 in) in width, and about 4 cm(1.57 in) to
about 6 cm (2.36 in) in height, preferably about 5.1 cm (2 in) in height. The key ring is
preferably a rigid material, such as metal, and has a diameter of about 2 cm (.79 in) to about 5 cm (1.97 in), preferably about 3.3 cm (1.3 in), and a depth of about .1 cm (.04 in) to about 1 cm (.39 in), preferably about .4 cm (.16 in). In one embodiment, the secondary material area
115 comprises a branding portion of about 2 cm (.16 in) in each dimension of a square. The
resulting, overall length of at least one embodiment of the lanyard/strap 100 is 12 cm (4.72 in)
to about 17 cm (6.69 in), preferably about 14.8 cm (5.83 in), and about 2 cm (.79 in) to about 3
cm (1.18 in) in width, preferably about 2.4 cm (.94 in).
[0020] The strap 110 main body can comprise any design, including textile prints or
colors. The main body can comprise branding; however, the secondary material portion 115
can additionally or alternatively provide space for branding. In addition, Figure 1 illustrates
that the secondary material portion can comprise visible stitching 130, however this is not
required. The stitching may comprise contrasting or matching colors. Alternatively, the
secondary portion 115 can be attached to the strap 110 via other means, such as adhesives.
The key ring 120 can comprise any key ring or other suitable ring structure made of rigid or
flexible metals, rubber, or plastic materials, and/or composites thereof.
[0021] Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the inventive personal attachment accessory,
while Figure 3 is a top plan view thereof. Figure 4 is an elevated facing view of the personal
attachment accessory, while Figure 5 is an elevated rear view thereof. Figure 6 is an elevated
left side view of the personal attachment accessory, while Figure 7 is an elevated right side
view thereof. Dotted lines of equal length shown in the Figures represent stitching.
[0022] Accordingly, at least one aspect of the present invention can comprise the
