FIG. 1
TITLE: A FACE SHIELD FOR SENSING BODY TEMPERATURE AND OXYGEN LEVEL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention is related to a face shield for protecting a user from the hazardous environmental conditions, and more specifically to the technique of measuring body temperature and the oxygen saturation level in the blood.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The face shield is an item of personal protective equipment (PPE). It aims to protect the wearer's entire face or sometimes part of it from the hazards such as flying objects, road-debris, chemical splashes in laboratories or in industry and potentially infectious materials as in medical and laboratory environments. The harmful air contaminants suspended in the air that we inhale are fatal and pose challenges on our health. Also, the flying bugs and mosquitoes that the user strike in his bare eyes while the user is riding a bike, cycle or a scooter, is very problematic. During cycling and mountaineering, the user needs a device which can continuously monitor his oxygen saturation levels in the blood.
[0003] The face shield that is available in the market does not possess any means to measure the health conditions of the user, while the user is exposed to the hazardous environmental conditions. This is an important requirement for the user who is wearing the face shield for keeping a check on the user's health conditions. This is also very important for a wearer who is suffering from some kind of serious medical health condition.
[0004] In the present times, the newly discovered corona virus (Covid-19) is at its peak. The corona virus is spreading at the fastest pace and this has put almost every person in a dangerous zone. The symptoms of COVID-19 are so common that almost every individual is wondering whether he is suffering from the virus. The symptoms are very common to distinguish from any normal fever and cold conditions. Therefore, you need to be capable enough to monitoring your condition so that the right decision can be made at right time. This can be done with the help of two common devices, a thermometer and an oximeter. These devices will assist in determining whether the deceased is suffering from the corona virus. The use of the face shield is also a must, for at least people from the virus-prone areas. Also, it is an inevitable for the medical professionals, who are day and night exposed to the virus.
[0005] There is a need for a device which can continuously measure the wearer's heath condition while protecting him from the environmental hazards.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] The present invention provides a face shield which can continuously monitor the body temperature and the blood oxygen levels of the wearer while protecting him from the environmental hazards. The face shield is a protective fiber sheet (105) covering the face of the user, including eyes, nose and mouth, which are more prone to get affected from the hazardous environmental conditions. The face shield has a band using which it can be fixed at the user's forehead. The band is connected at the top of the protective fiber sheet (105) with which the face is protected. The band is having a temperature sensor (201) fitted at the back side where it touches user's forehead and is also having an display unit (101), located at the centered of the forehead portion of the band, for display of the measured temperature readings. The face shield is also provided with the ear lobe sensors (103) that would continuously monitor the oxygen saturation levels in the blood. The ear lobe sensors (103) can be attached at the ears of the user for the measurement of the oxygen saturation level in the blood. The ear lobe sensor (103) for measuring oxygen saturation level is fixed with the headband (107) of the face shield at both the side of the head. The display of the ear lobe sensor (103) measurements will also be seen on the same display screen (101) which was displaying the contents of the measurement of temperature by the temperature sensor (201). The readings of the temperature and oxygen saturation level of the wearer will be displayed together. The display unit's (101) readings can be read by the co-mates working with the individual. Hence, the co-mates working together can monitor each other's health conditions. The face shield is equipped with the Bluetooth for wireless communication. In cases, where the individual is working alone, or not working in the group, the readings can be self monitored via the use of the Bluetooth which transmit the measurement data to the user's device like mobile, pc, laptop etc. The result can also be stored in the memory of the device for the post analysis.
[0007] The main advantage of the proposed system is that it provides a platform for continuous monitoring of the health condition of people working in groups. For e.g., with his fellow colleagues in an office, industry, adventure tours, cycling etc. hence, the co-mate working together can check the health conditions of each-other. Its other advantages come in the area of determining the health condition for a person as per the Covid-19 protocol. The parameters like the body temperature and the oxygen saturation level in the blood needs to be monitored for the prediction of the corona virus symptoms.
[0008] The market potential for this device is very high, and this type of device is not only useful for medical practitioners but also for people working in groups, or in a factory, in an office, mines, on adventure tours, cycling etc. The original worth of the device is in saving human life by continuously keeping a watch on the general health condition of an individual.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0009] The foregoing and other objects, aspects and advantages are better understood from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention with reference to the drawings, in which:
[0010] FIG. 1 shows a user wearing the face shield of the present invention.
[0011] FIG. 2 shows the temperature sensor (201) unit that is coupled to the display unit (101) at its back side.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0012] Reference will now be made in detail to the preferred embodiment(s) of the invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Whenever possible, the same reference numerals will be used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like parts.
[0013] With reference to FIG. 1, a user's face wearing a face shield is shown. The face shield has a protective fiber sheet (105) which covers the face of the user, for protecting from the environmental conditions. The one end of the protective fiber sheet (105) is connected to the temperature sensor (201) unit and a display unit (101) is connected at the other side. The temperature sensor (201) unit is connected at the user's side of the face shield, so that the sensor touches the skin of the user for the measurement of temperature readings for the user. The display unit (101) is attached at the front side of the protective fiber sheet (105) for reading the measurements of the temperature by the user. The display unit (101) is having two divisions, one is enabled to show the temperature value and the other is enabled to show the blood oxygen readings of the user. The oxygen saturation value will be communicated through the sensor that is attached at both the ear lobes of the user, also called as ear lobe sensor (103). The average of the measured value taken from both the ear lobe sensors (103) will be communicated to the display unit (101) for displaying. The display unit (101) will keep on displaying the contents of the measurement which are communicated through the temperature sensor (201) and the ear lobe sensor (103). The ear lobe sensors (103) and the temperature sensors (201) will continuously monitor the blood oxygen level and the body temperature of the user.
[0014] With reference to FIG. 2, the temperature sensor (201) unit is shown, which is coupled to the back side of the display unit (101). This assembly is attached to the headband (107) of the face shield in such a manner so that the temperature sensor (201) is kept inside the protective fiber sheet (105) of the face shield. The temperature sensor (201) is attached in such a manner that it can be in direct contact with the skin of the wearer for the measurement of the temperature value. The value measured by the sensor will be displayed to the display unit (101) at the front side of the protective fiber sheet (105).
[0015] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the temperature sensor (201) and the display unit (101) are coupled in a single housing. This housing of equipments is attached at the center of the first end of the protective fiber sheet (105).
[0016] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the first end of the protective fiber sheet (105) is coupled with a headband (107). The headband (107) of the face shield is a flexible band which can be adjusted at the wearer's head comfortably.
[0017] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, face shield further comprises a wireless communication module. The measured readings of the temperature sensor (201) and the ear lobe sensor (103) can be communicated to the other communication devices like mobile phone, laptop, pc etc. of the user using the Bluetooth of the device. This can be done, in order for saving the values for further evaluation or for transmitting the value to any remote location for monitoring purposes.
