Field of Innovation The present innovation relates generally to a composition for vitality-boosting in aging and sub-optimal health, such as but not limited to providing slower aging process, healthier immune function, greater energy and well-being, younger appearance, longer life span and better quality of life in mammals. More particularly, the present innovation is directed to compositions comprising herbs or extracts of 0 O herbs or botanical or horticultural equivalents of the herbs or chemicals or functional equivalents of the herbal extracts useful in the vitality-boosting in aging and suboptimal health, such as but not limited to the benefits of slower aging process, Ohealthier immune function, greater energy and well-being, younger appearance, longer life span and better quality of life in mammals. The present innovation further O contemplates a method of anti-aging in mammals by the administration of a herbal O composition or its chemical or functional equivalent.
0Background of the Innovation Herbal formulations comprising extracts of more than one herbal plant have been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Use of herbal formulations is a major principle in the utilization of herbs in the management of diseases. There is now an increasing acceptance of their value and therapeutic efficacy in Western medicine. TCM has its unique and philosophical theory in etiology, diagnosis, pharmacology and therapeutics. Many concepts surrounding TCM have particular relevance to Western medicine such as viewing parts of the body as an organic whole, considering inter-relations and influences between organs and being aware of relevant adaptation of the human body to the natural environment.
Both applicants of this Innovation are senior medical doctors and have long been practising TCM and are experienced in treating the age-related and sub-optimal disorders. One of the applicants of this Innovation Dr. GR Hu also conducted a clinical study with an anti-aging herbal formulation at Huashan Hospital a teaching hospital of Shanghai Medical University 25 years ago while he was the Deputy Director of the Department of TCM of the Hospital.
Dr. GR Hu and colleagues researched and modified this formulation to improve its efficacy, and developed it into a second-generation commercial product. Since then this once-secretive formulation has come to be widely used amongst the general population. Over the next 20 years, and use by tens of millions of people, the product has become one of the best-selling anti-aging products on the Chinese market.
In his current twenty years of clinical and research studies at the University of Sydney, Dr. GR Hu has continued studies in aging, combined the formulation with the latest scientific findings and modem pharmaceutical technology, and elevated the formulation to a new generation, with optimized composition and improved efficacy.
The second-generation formula comprises seven herbs. The present (third-generation) formula comprises sixteen herbs, which includes six herbs adapted from the secondgeneration formula (except one ingredient of pearl powder), and ten additional herbs to optimize the formula and lead up to the present innovation.
