Description

AUSTRALIA
PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR AN INNOVATION PATENT
ORIGINAL
Name of Applicant: Actual Inventor: Agent and Address James Rainsford James Rainsford for Service: MADDERNS, 1s t Floor, 64 Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia Invention Title: ORGANISATION OF ACTIVITIES The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
ORGANISATION OF ACTIVITIES The present invention relates to the organisation of social activities.
O
Although there may be existing organisations in specific neighbourhoods catering for social activities, including recreational and sporting activities, there is a need for a 11coordinating structure whereby an individual in a particular neighbourhood can 00oO O contact others in that same neighbourhood, or a relevant region, who are interested in the same activity or a complementary activity (eg travelling/hosting of travellers).
According to the present invention, this is accomplished via the Internet.
In particular, this Internet-based method of organising social activities comprises: a) provision of an application form via the Internet, which form is to be completed by applicants, whereby applicants are required to provide relevant details, including specifying a desired activity and providing details of a location associated with said activity; b) analysing and collating completed application forms so as to group applicants according to relevant activities and relevant location details; and, c) based on that analysis and collation, placing a group of applicants in contact with each other.
As indicated above, applicants will complete a form provided on the Internet, thereby providing relevant personal details (eg gender and age range) and details of their location (eg postcode), and specifying the activity of interest. The form is provided and completed in electronic form, and in particular via a website on the Internet. An example of wording for the website, together with an example of a suitable application form, is given below, in Example 1.
Generally, location details will comprise the address (eg postcode) of the applicant, thus enabling individuals in the same locality to be matched up for activities such as walking, jogging or swimming. However, for activities such as travelling and hosting of travellers, the location to which the applicant wishes to travel, or the Slocation in which the host applicant is situated, will need to be specified. As some countries do not have postcodes, search criteria may instead comprise the name of O the Country; State, Territory, County or Province; and/or City or Town.
The forms which have been completed by applicants will be analysed and collated 1-1 electronically, to match applicants with their desired activities in desired 00oO Sneighbourhoods/localities.
C 10 For the majority of activities, this will entail sorting the applicants' forms into groups based on the neighbourhood (eg as reflected by the postcode) of the applicants and the specified activity.
For other activities, such as travelling/hosting, a first group of applicants wishing to travel to a specific location will be matched with a second group of applicants in that location who wish to host guests with the same or complementary activity choices.
This Internet-based organisation is applicable to a wide range of activities, as indicated by the activities specified in the application form of Example 1. For example, the activities may be attending entertainment venues or restaurants, partying, swimming, dancing, bingo, walking, walking a dog, jogging, running, aerobics, tai chi, yoga, skiing, Australian Rules football, netball, soccer, cricket, basketball, hockey, rugby union, rugby league, bowls, baseball, gridiron, dating, travelling or hosting of travellers.
Completion of the application form and payment of requisite fees (eg an annual fee) will entitle the applicant to membership. In a preferred embodiment, the applicant will then be e-mailed a membership number. That membership number will allow the applicant to access the relevant sections of the website, for as long as the membership number is valid, and thereby obtain contact details (eg e-mail addresses) for others having similar or complementary (eg traveller/host) interests and living in the relevant locality. Alternatively, or in addition to this website access, 3 the applicant may receive regular updates, preferably by e-mail, of new members 0 joining the group of interest.
O While the present invention has been described in terms of preferred embodiments in order to facilitate better understanding of the invention, it should be appreciated that various modifications can be made without departing from the principle of the ID invention. Therefore, the invention should be understood to include all such 00oO Smodifications within its scope.
C 10 In particular, the methods of this invention are applicable to a wide range of activities. If the desired activity is not currently listed, the website may provide the opportunity for a member to add the activity to the list, with a view to enabling a search for people who match the criteria of that new activity.
EXAMPLE 1 Are you fed up going out or away on holiday on your own? Ever wish you had O someone to participate in your favourite activities or pastimes with you? Well here is the perfect way to find someone who has similar interests, whether in IND your local area, or in an area in which you are intending to travel.
