Abstract

The invention relates to a method for changing a mode of operation of a rail vehicle (98) during the transition into another operating range of the rail vehicle. According to said method, a first transmit unit (93) that is located in a transition area along a vehicle path (91) transmits a modification signal which is received by the rail vehicle (98), the mode of operation begins (96) to be changed when the modification signal is received, a positive acknowledgement signal is generated in the rail vehicle (98) if the mode of operation has been successfully changed, and a control unit (97) located along the vehicle path (91) decides whether the rail vehicle (98) is clear to continue its course by taking into account the acknowledgement signal.
